Howdy All, Thought it was about time I replaced my previous SEAC Thunderbolt build, so here I am, come to bother you with some pic`s of my latest effort. My latest go at Tamiya`s 1/48 p-47 Razorback kit Built as usual pretty much as Mr Tamiya intended with just wire engine harness and aerial wire added Completed to represent an aircraft of 146 Squadron RAF, based in India Sept `44 Decals came from Xtradecals set X48-115 `Yanks with roundels` Pt 4 The notes on the decal instructions mentioned some `poorly painted` areas on the rear fuselage and a fresh patch of paint on the engine cowling........ .......so I scoured the internet for some photo`s but only came up with one very poor photo from which I couldn`t make anything out really So I just went with the fresh patch of paint on top of the cowling Hope I haven`t bothered you too much🙂 Thanks for looking, cheers Russ

Howdy all, Finally got around to having a go at Airfix`s 1/48 P-40B kit, so thought I`d better inflict some photo`s on you Finished in the markings of an ex AVG Hawk at the time it was becoming the 74thFS/23rdFG USAAF and with the later style of `Flying Tiger` marking. Built as usual pretty much OOB, but replaced the gun barrels with metal tube Secondly, I bent the propeller blades to give them less pitch as I always thought they look a bit narrow Also added some etched seat belts, ring and bead gun sight, brake pipes from bits of wire and aerial wires from black thread Corrected the rudder hinge with some wire bent into shape and filed a bit thinner When I first opened the box I thought the breakdown of the parts was going to make for a tricky build but it goes together very well, I thought The markings came from a Sky Decals set and the kit Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Here`s another one of my `leaps of faith` from my Far East collection My attempt at Airfix`s 1/48 Blenheim Fighter kit I originally intended to do a bomber version, but recalled reading that 27 Squadron used a few at the beginning of the conflict, so I started digging........ ...bought a few books but found very little ( apparently the Squadron didn`t last too long and seems to have been amalgamated into other Squadrons) Found a couple of old threads on this site but most of the pictures are gone. Also the more I looked at what photo`s I could see it became apparent that not all of the ...... ......aircraft were configured as fighters. So I configured the model as a `might have looked like` aircraft that set out on one of the first sorties which is described as a bombing and strafing mission. Markings are nearly all from the stash, and I tried to recreate the upper wing roundels as modified A1 type which were converted from four circles Y, B, W and R. To a smaller Blue and Red as seen in many photo`s of the time though I couldn`t find any in theatre above wing shots to prove it.. Anyway, hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy Everyone Finished the latest addition to the CBI theme I got going so thought I better bother you with some photo`s My attempt at the Hasegawa 1/48 Hurricane IIc kit Finished to represent an aircraft with 34 Squadron RAF based at Palel, Burma Built from the box contents with just a very few tweaks The main one being to build up the fuselage under the canopy which was replaced with a vac-formed item so it could be slid back Others include: some canopy rails and a stiffener for the radiator intake from wire The bombs were, I think, from an Airfix Blenheim and the bomb racks were made from some bits of plastic sheet...... and filed into shape. Decals from an Xtra Decals Sheet, seat belts from paper and foil and drilled the gun barrels Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi All, Just finished my second attempt at a `Grey Nurse` Squadron Spitfire, so thought you wouldn`t mind me sharing some pic`s Built from Eduards 1/48 Spitfire Mk VIII, `Weekend edition` kit Finished to represent an aircraft of 457 Squadron, RAAF towards the end of the war Built as usual 99% from the box, with just a few tweaks Including a slipper fuel tank, from the spares box ( probably from Special Hobby kit ) Scoured the internet for a photo of the actual aircraft and although a good selection of 457 Sq photo`s.... ...only found one of the real deal and this of it during it`s time with the 1st TAF where they performed support and ground attack duties' Then it had the Sky band painted out and the serial in black and very worn, so that was the look I went for. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy Everyone, Just finished the latest addition to my CBI theme and thought you wouldn`t mind seeing a few photo`s My attempt at a Royal Navy FM-2 Wildcat Built from Eduard`s new 1/48 kit Built 99% from the box contents Only additions being: ignition harness and brake pipes from bits of wire... ....and the decals which came from Techmod Set 48052 `Grumman Wildcat Mk VI` First time I`ve used this brand and they worked beautifully. Kept the weathering light, as apparently, they didn`t actually see any action as the war was over before they got there. Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Just finished the third of my haul from Telford last November, so I thought I`d trouble you with some photo`s Czech Models 1/48 scale Curtiss A-12 Shrike kit Finished to represent an aircraft of No 26 Bomber Squadron, No 9 AG, Chinese Air Force, 1937-38 Which was an option in the kit Built mostly from the box with the exception of the fragile resin frames and flying control actuators which were broken into little bits in the bag and.... replaced with bits of wire, tube and plastic strip. Took three attempts at the rigging before I got it looking barely acceptable and can`t count the amount of times I broke the undercarriage struts. Suffice to say I`m glad it`s all over. Hope you enjoy the pic`s. Thanks for looking, Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Thought I`d surprise you with a Luftwaffe subject, which is a rarity among the themes I tend to build in. My attempt at Italeri`s 1/48 Arado 196 float plane Decided to make life difficult by attempting to do the wings folded, which isn`t an option in the kit Portrayed as a German crewed aircraft based at Penang in Japanese occupied Malaya around 1944 Apart from the wing-fold is built 99% OOB as usual With just the antenna wire added The wing-fold was done from scratch, with details made up of plastic sheet and copper wire from a flex not 100% accurate but near enough for my shelves 🙂 Decals were from the kit Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi everyone Actually got around to buying some grass ( No! not that sort...) so took the opportunity to take some pic`s of my latest effort My attempt at Dora`s 1/48 Curtiss Wright Interceptor kit Done as a Dutch example based on Perak airbase, Java towards the end of `41 As usual pretty much OOB, with usual ignition harness, antenna wire, brake pipes and guns from metal tube Also replaced the exhaust pipes as I made a right pigs ear of the kit ones with some plastic tube Quite an easy build, the only thing that gave me a headache was deciding what colours to paint it...... Lots of conflicting info` in books and on internet and the only two colour photo`s I found were heavily filtered......... ...one even looked like mint and chocolate ice cream colours. Hope my attempt is close 🤞 Also hope you enjoy the photo`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everybody, built this one as therapy between some more difficult kits and the latest addition to my CBI collection My latest go at Tamiya`s 1/48 Buffalo kit Chose the RAF option from the choices in the kit as I`d done the others in the past Built from the box contents with just a few additions ie: paper seat belts, with brake pipes, aerial wire and a ring gunsight from bits of wire Nothing else to say really, a great trouble free build, Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Guys ! Following my first post on my P-40 series, here is the next one. A P-40K-5 as used in China . As told before, my purpose is to go on thru a part of the P-40 family , pointing out elements like , different camos, national markings, units ones, and external charges used,wheels.. . This one is the plane of 1lt Charles.J.White, of the 25th FS /51FG . Specific points on this one : Use of "Dupont" colors trying to match RAF colors as planned for export , but as time goes.. used by USAAF Use of red bordered "stars and bar" insignia Typical unit shark mouth nose art Another point, is as I read, that this unit was the first P-40 unit to use 1000 Pd GP bombs. This unit shared at one time the same field with a B-25 unit. Col Barr an headquarter officier of the 51 st FG , seeing 1000 Pd bombs used by the B-25 had the idea to use them on the 51st FG planes, with deadly results on the Japanese side. So my P-40 is loaded with this kind of bomb. She had also Gonio Antenna to make navigation easier on the Jungle landscape theater of operation. Added "squared " type of wheels. resin exhausts from CMK I tried to render "Dupont" colors with a different mixes of Gunze paints ( don't ask me please, did so much tries.. ) spending so much time to see real pictures , anyway it is as it is, and camera used, type a screen used will probably not perfectly represent the bird as it looks, forgive me about this 😊 Ok , enough talking , let's go on pictures .. And to end with some " dynamic " presentation .. Et voilà Guys !! that's all folks !! Hope you'll like it ! Cheers and take care ! Bye now 😉

Hi everyone Been praying for years that someone would release a `48th Beaufort and now they have, I thought I`d better show you my attempt at one So here it is, my go at ICM`s 1/48 Beaufort Mk I, Finished in markings of 16 Sq SAAF based in Madagascar `42, which loosely fits in to my CBI theme, as they were stationed there to patrol.... ....the Indian Ocean to watch out for Japanese attempting to land there. ( So I read ) Built OOB with a only a few additions: seat belts for the pilots seat and some detailing on the cockpit walls, as the kit only provides..... Instrument panel and centre console, made from chopped up PE from the stash and bits of wire. Also had a go at posing the Direction Finder antenna deployed which I improvised with a square thing I found in the stash and wire. Decals from Xtradecal`s Beaufort set X48219 Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy all, Finally getting round to replacing my collection of 1/48 Hobbycraft Hurricanes, thanks to Hobby 2000 reissuing the Hasegawa kits, so thought it only fair to bother you with some pic`s of my first effort. Finished to represent an aircraft of 17 Squadron, RAF, based in Burma, early `42 Built pretty much from the box contents, but with a tweak Firstly built up the bit of the spine of the fuselage that sits under the canopy so that I could pose the canopy open...... ...... and cut off the kit item from the windscreen and replaced with vac-form item, also drilled out the exhausts Additions were just usual dodgy seat belts, aerial wires and stiffening brace for the radiator scoop Decals were a mix of the kits and the spares box, replaced the normal Red/Blue upper wing roundels with Red, White and Blue, which was a Squadron modification, Presumably to prevent confusion with the Japanese marking. Tried to replicate the remains of the white ferry flight markings on the rear fuselage and upper tailplane that was evident in the only pic` I`ve seen Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ PS: I know they probably didn`t has PSP at the airfield in Burma, but it`s what I`d got to hand 🙂

Hello, Here's my 1/72 Revell 1/72 P-51B. This one was started as a simple build when I was away from home for a week early this year. It then moved to the shelf of doom for a while, but got resurrected a few weeks ago. The kit is not the most accurate one and the clear parts are pretty bad, I even used a mask set on them which I normally never use. But overal a fun build, with nice surface detail. I used the kit decals, minus the famous yellow tail markings, which didn't seem to be present on this particular plane. Other Mustangs (26th FS) in the unit did have them. Painted with Mr. Hobby acrylics and some Revell Aqua on the spinner. Thanks for looking. Pete

Hi Everyone Thought you wouldn`t mind if I subjected you to some photo`s of my latest completion My attempt at making a `Thimble Nosed` Beaufighter from Tamiya`s 1/48 TFX Kit As usual built mostly from the contents of the box With a few minor additions and improvements Additions include: making a gun camera housing for the top front fuselage from a spare intake from the kit, milliput, wire and crystal clear....... some extra antenna, wind screen wiper, engine cowl braces and what I presume is a `pee tube` near the rear stbd wing root Improvements including : moving the tail trim tab actuators to the underside, drilling out all the gun barrels and little venturii type things on the exhausts. Decals from Xdradecal set X48188 and some of the kits Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Finished this one last week and managed to get some photo`s before the weather went down hill My latest attempt at Hasegawa`s 1/48 P-40 kit Built from the `M` boxing to represent an early P-40N Finished to represent `Lula Belle` of the `Burma Banshees` 89thFS/80th FG, 1944 This was the first of two `Lula Belle`s` flown by 1stLt Phillip Adair, the second being a later model `N` version The kit`s built OOB with just some brake pipes, seat belts and antenna added The decals came from a Skymodels sheet ( 48-047 ) and worked fine but........ ...after researching the aircraft found to be lacking certain details. So I had to add black mouth and red blood to the skull, whitewall the tyres and try to paint the bomb carrying buzzard to the wheel hubs by hand. Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy all, got some pic`s of my latest effort, so thought I`d subject you to a few........ My second go at Gavia`s 1/48 Lysander kit As usual 99.9% from the box contents Only additions being a scattering of antenna here and there Finished SEAC markings, used for special operations in Burma towards end of WW2 Used the kit decals which worked fine Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy all, thought you wouldn`t mind me bothering you with some pic`s of my latest effort My attempt at Italeri`s reboxing of AMT`s 1/48 Warhawk kit, which alleges to give you the option of a P-40E or K but actually contains parts to do a long or short tailed `K` Finished in the markings of `Dem Bums`, flown by 1st Lt Marvin Lubner, 78th FS/23rd FG, China, 1943 The kit is showing its age a bit now and made a few improvements, including: some shims to widen the nose a bit so it matches the prop` spinner diameter, fuel vent thing aft of the wings,.... ......brake pipes, under carriage retraction arms, ring and bead gunsight, clear piece on the main gunsight, modify the cockpit seat assy, and some canopy slide rails. The markings are not in the kit but were from an old Sky Decals set, although I was tempted by the Alaskan markings on the kit sheet with the Wolf head on the nose Lubner is believed to have flown the very last combat mission of WWII though not in this aircraft I imagine. Hope you enjoy the photo`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi everyone, here`s my first ( and most recent) completion from my haul from the Hinckley Show in March. Tamiyas 1/48 Bristol Beaufighter VI completed as an Australian built Mk21 Representing an aircraft of No 93 Sqn RAAF known as the `Green Ghosts` Apart from the decals all the parts were in the box, only extra work was deletion of two wing guns, some antenna, seat belts and a small fillet ahead of the observers station the decals were from an old Eagle Strike set also I thought I`d show you an earlier build This time a Mk X, actually done from the TFX boxing Done as an SEAC aircraft of no particular airframe or squadron but inspired from a pic` of a 22 Sqn, RAF aircraft Markings from the spares stash and the kit decals Only real work done was deleting the guns and ejector shutes and fixing a camera housing to the nose Hope you enjoy them both.

HI Everyone, thought you wouldn`t mind seeing a few pic`s of my latest completion My attempt at a Far East Theatre Mk VIII Spitfire from Eduards 1/48 Weekend Edition kit Finished to represent an aircraft of 615 Squadron, flown by Flying Officer Hank Costain and based at Palel, India around 1944 Built as usual almost completely from the box contents.... ...didn`t even have to make seat belts as I managed ( i think ) to get a good result from the kit decal ones Decals were from Xtradecal set X48-129 I was attracted to this scheme because of it`s unusually coloured code letters.... and simple nose art. Hope you enjoy the photo`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy everyone, now the silly season and the first Shifts of the year are out of the way I managed to finish my latest effort: Freedom Models 1/48 scale Curtiss Hawk III kit Finished in the markings of 25 Sqn, RoCAF, based at Yangchow Airfield, China 1937 and flown by Pilot Mu Fei Chang. The script on the fwd fuselage ( which also appears under the wings ) reads Ningpo Special according to what I found on the web. As usual mostly from the kit contents, I did replace some of the etched stuff with bits of wire but managed to use the interplane rigging and engine harness Kit went together quite well apart from the cabane struts, which I partly replaced with plastic strip as the moulded parts didn`t match the locating holes in the wing The decals are the kits and were impervious to everything I tried except a very hot hair dryer and stiff brush Really glad to have one in the collection at last. Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Glad so say I`ve finally finished my attempt at building a `Sonia` from Wingsy Kits 1/48 kit Finished to represent an aircraft of the 27th Hikosentai, Burma, 1942 ( Oh why did I chose _that scheme and _that armament ! ) Built almost entirely from the box contents, the only additions being the aerial wires I found the kit to be a bit of a struggle and, because of Wingsy`s `why make a part out of one piece when you can make it out of five` approach, a bit of a chore too The fit of the parts is great and the level of detail is very high......... ....but the plastic is very similar to Kitty Hawks `Twougar` kit and is hard to sand and doesn`t stick well ( I found Humbrol Liquid cement worked best ) The opening part of the pilots canopy isn`t a good fit either, it`s very thick and really needs a vac formed part. Still, got there in the end and am glad to have one in the collection. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy everyone, Just put the finishing touches on my latest effort: HobbyBoss`s 1/48 FM-1 Wildcat kit, masquerading as a Martlet Mk V Finished to represent an aircraft with 733 NAS, Trincomalee, Ceylon, 1945 Built pretty much from the box contents, with only seat belts, engine wiring, brake pipes and aerials added Decals from Xtradecals set X48104 `Yanks with Roundels Part 2` Had to copy the camo` from pictures on the internet as the image on the instruction sheet was too dark to make out...... ...but I couldn`t find a photo of the actual aircraft. Apparently it was a non operational unit so didn`t weather it too much. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi all, Thought I`d share some pic`s of my latest effort, which I finished a couple of weeks ago but, got my sausage fingers caught on the aerial wire and had a bit of repair work to do. My attempt at Fine Molds 1/48 C5M2 `Babs` Kit Finished to represent an aircraft of the 3rd Air Group, IJN and operated from Denpasar Air Base, on Bali Island Really well detailed and great fitting kit, the only bit I had a battle with was fitting the engine and cowling to the front fuselage, but I think......... ....that I squeezed the exhaust parts too close together when fitting the cowling ( there`s a lot of parts involving the engine and cowling in a quite small space ) The interior looks amazing when done and fits beautifully but then mostly disappears when you paint the top fuselage and fit the canopy Built almost entirely from the kits contents with just the usual dodgy seat belts and bits of wire for the ignition harness Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Hope you don`t mind if I bother you with some photo`s of my latest effort My attempt at Tamiya`s 1/48 Sworfish Mk II kit Finished to represent an aircraft based in India and Ceylon for missions over the Indian Ocean 1944-45 Built mostly from the box, but with a few wire and thread embellishments: Made the engine cowling supports and ring, torpedo sight etc from copper wire the control cables for rudder and elevators from silver thread soaked in Johnsons Klear, The rigging was done with elastic thread in an attempt to find something that retained some tension better than the nylon thread I usually use Decals were from a Print+Scale set. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
