  1. Having completed one of these new kits last month, I hereby submit myself to a second round armed with info to mind the pitfalls; off which there really is only a couple. I admired the Brazilian schemes from the colorful 60's, so this is going to be finished off as one from either 1 or 2 squadron, 1st Group AvC, 1965. Internal assemblies done, deviation from instructions by attaching the nose wheel gear bay to the cockpit now, letting that cure with the fuselage taped up and nose temporarily attached. This saves a major alignment/fit headache if you do it all separately. Everything here will get a black spray and dry brush. Little can be discerned once it's all closed up. I have chosen to use a CMK bang seat to replace the kits parts which are a little light in detail.
  2. I hadn’t planned on joining this GB, but a cheap kit came my way. I’m using the Swiss Air Force boxing of the Italeri 1/72 kit along with some FCM decals to build a model serving with the Força Aérea Brasileira. I’ve also got the Eduard cockpit PE set (because it was dirt cheap), though I’m not sure if I’ll actually use much of it. So, this is what I’ve got: This is the scheme I’ve chosen, a four-colour blue & grey camouflage: Sprues to prove it’s unstarted: And finally, some AK Real Colour paints in the appropriate shades. This will be my first time using Real Colour paints: Expect a start at some point either after I’ve cleared the decks of the current projects, or when I get impatient. James
  3. Hello! Sometimes Trumpeter make awesome kits and this is one example... This is my Su-25 built almost out of box with Eduard cockpit and Master Model pitots. Painted with GSI paints and homemade masks(sharkmouth/numbers/RF+BBC POCCNN/red stars). Hope you like!! Cheers from Brazil! Ralphy
  4. Kit - Aifix 1:48 Paint - All enamels Decals - FCM 48053 Extras - Eduard kit-specific Zoom set. Gloster Meteor F8 'Jambock 4452' Santa Cruz AB, Brazil 1965 Not a straightforward build it has to be said. Fit issues getting the leading edge of the wing together inboard of the engines - I put both engines into place - I think that the installed engne detail is simply too tall and knocks the fit way out. Other than that it wasn't too bad, details are a little soft but we're sort of used to that from (new) Airfix. The blue was mixed by eye and sprayed onto the primer then masked using the vinyl masks that FCM give you with the decal set (and Tamiya tape for the fuselage band & wing-tips). I tested five different 'silvers' and of them all Tamiya enamel X11 was the best (but not by much) with almost no grain and great coverage, so I applied three light coats over a unifying coat of good ol' Xtracolour enamel EDSG - really pleased with the final finish. I left everything to cure for about a week before spraying two medium coats of Humbrol Gloss Cote (sic) then decals, a lightish Flory wash to bring out the panel lines but not too stark - I hate really dark PLW, makes your model look like a flying diagram !. All finished this weekend with a light misted coat of Humbrol Satin. That's all to say - the FCM decals are a joy to use, airfix decals are beautifully printed too. The Eduard set was really only needed to dress-up the seat and the IP, and that's fine. Overall a 7.5 out of 10 for this one, IMHO. No plans on building another but really looking forward to the Vampire and a Chipmunk or two... As ever comments questions and criticisms are welcome. Best from NZ. Ian.
  5. Last night, I completed Monograms lovely 1/72 F4B-4 as a Boeing Model 256 - the export model of the P-12 as used by the Brazilian Air Force in the 1930's. Decals were sourced from a MicroScale Texan sheet that cost more than the kit itself. Hopefully more F4B / P-12 and Brazilian Aircraft will both be on the way at some point in the future. It may only be me, but I think the FAB Roundels are rather attractive, especially on P-40s and A-20s. With a new desk to model on, progress on kits has been a little faster and I hope I will be able to upload more in the coming days.
  6. While taking a break from scratching the Hudson Bomb Bay, I started 2 new projects, a Brewster Buffalo in USAAF Markings (Australia 1944) and this one, a Monogram F4B4 as a Boeing 256 of the FAB. Thankfully, no obvious conversion was needed, so I simply assembled the kit and got to painting. I'm looking forward to doing a Thai Air Force F4B next. Hopefully, the finished model will look like this: Currently, it looks like this: I apologize for the poor photo: MM Russian Armor Green is curiously hard to photograph. Tomorrow, I will try to get outdoors to take a better one if the weather holds. The Engine is done and ready to attach, but first I need to finish painting the pilot and then attach the upper fuselage around him. Finally, I will need to source some Brazilian Roundels. I might just buy an FCM P-40 Sheet and a P-40 as well, for a stablemate. Perhaps a P-36 could even appear if I can get the old Monogram or Revell kit for cheap. That's all for now, Tweener
  7. These are in 1/72. The Bubbletop being a Brazilian machine with aftermarket decals, the Razorback one of the 325th Checkertail Clan using kit decals. For their age, the kits are decent, although lacking in cockpit detail. The Tamiya kit is superior, but the Hasegawa can often be found and swap meets for 5 bucks, in fact that's what dad paid for it about 15 years ago when he bought it for me. It was a 2 in 1 special edition.
