  1. Braathens first and last. DC-4 and 737 Minicraft DC-4 and Daco 737-400,1/144. Lima November Decals Braathens SAFE (South America & Far East) was started in Norway in 1946, receiving its first aircraft, a DC-4, LN-HAV on December 26th 1947. The airline was formed to support the Braathens shipping lines, carrying crews and spares worldwide. as well as charters for other shipping companies. The SAFE suffix was dropped in 1998, and the airline was taken over by SAS in June 2004, being known initially as SAS Braathens. The aircraft were repainted in the then SAS livery. As I already had made a 737 in the final livery, I thought a model of LN-HAV would make a good companion, so here they are! Thanks for looking John
  2. Here is the Daco Skyline Boeing 737-500 finished as LN-BRC “Håkon IV Håkonsson“ of Braathens S.A.F.E. in the second version of the airline’s red white and blue stripe livery. About 30 years ago my wife and I flew with Braathens on what should have been the short hop across the North Sea from Bergen to Newcastle but because of fog we were diverted to Manchester along with most other flights bound for airports in the east of England. The handling companies were inundated and obviously scraping the barrel to get road transport. I still shudder at the memory of the three hour journey to Newcastle in darkness and fog on a clearly unroadworthy bus with no heating, stinking of diesel and driven by a delightful individual who responded to a mild complaint from one passenger by threatening to dump everyone on the hard shoulder of the M62. The passengers included several large, hairy and disgruntled Norwegians, probably oilmen, so it was maybe just as well for him that he didn’t actually try! Anyhow, the nightmare bus journey was in no way the fault of Braathens and I have been “going to get round” to a model ever since. The one poor quality photo of the aircraft which I snapped at Bergen suggests it was LN-BRC hence the choice of registration. The build is pretty much OOB apart from the addition of a few small fairings from plastic strip and replacement of some of the small detail parts with photo-etch. Paint is Halfords Appliance Gloss White and Racking Grey with AK Interactive aluminium on the lower forward fuselage. Other metallics are by Tamiya and Revell. Livery decals are a mixture of an ancient Liveries Unlimited sheet (copyright date 1996) and the more recent Lima November sheet 144-506. Detail decals are from the kit and windows are by Authentic Airliners. Thanks for looking and constructive criticism is always welcome. 3. Boeing 737 Airfix 1:144 Braathens decals from Lima November I've developed a liking for taking an Airfix 737 out of the box and improving it. I must have done 5 or 6 now. Basic changes are: Lengthen the engines by 6mm Build up the pylons from the early skinny style to the more common fat type, Cut out the shallow main and nose wheelbays, and build new ones Cut away the cockpit and install a Daco Clear part from one of their 737 kits. Scratchbuilt a cockpit and out in a couple of N gauge seated figures for pilots. The basic mods make a huge difference to the appearance of thee model. Decals are from Lima November, and absolutely superb. The sheet gives you this style and he later one where the cheatline was dropped below the window level, but I prefer this. You also get every registration and fleet name for all Braathens 737-200's to choose from. (BTW, it is pronounced Brawtens, a double A in Norwegian is an 'AW' sound, There - my educational point for the day!). I really enjoyed building this, for once I didn't make any major bloopers. Can you see the co-pilot? The scratchbuilt wheel bays The crew are really difficult to photograph, but you can make them out here. In real life they are quite easy to see. And it wouldn't be complete without 'Something else' alongside! In this case a Welsh models Vac F-27 also with Lima November Braathens decals. The scratchbuilt cockpit Overview of the most obvious mods during construction. Thanks for looking John
