  1. Here is the Zvezda Boeing 787-8 in the simple, understated livery of Royal Air Maroc. The build was more or less OOB. I know there are a few accuracy issues, notably with the wing-fuselage fairing, but the BraZ correction part for that costs more than the kit so I’ll live with it uncorrected. I added a few small details from plastic sheet. I also decided to try the Metallic Details p/e set a fair bit of which turned out to be junk (brass door overlays anyone?) but it did yield a few useful things like baggage door hinges, engine strakes and vent covers. It’s a pity Extra Tech don’t seem to have the 787 in their range. White paint is Halfords as usual. Metallics are by Tamiya and Revell. Decals are by Two Six and well up to Ray’s usual standards. I added Authentic Airliners windows and various bits and pieces from their 787 detail sheet. The Revell and Zveda 787-8s are the same plastic and if you have the choice go for the Revell kit which is usually cheaper and has a more comprehensive decal sheet. Thanks for looking and constructive criticism is always welcome. Dave G
  2. Hainan Airlines operated 4-5 Dreamliners in different Kung Fu Panda liveries. I found the golden one from PAS Decals. Windows are from Authentic Airliners, details come from the Zvezda and Revell decal sheets. The PAS decals have no white backing, but they come with a set of masks for the panda head shape. For the fuselage I used Gunze copper,as the gold paint would have been much too bright compared to photos of the original. After application of the panda head decal,I realized that the masks were a bit off in shape and size,so after clear coating,I had to correct and fill the gaps carefully,so that the panda would be embedded in the copper. The rest of the build and decaling was troublefree. The only problem are the door decals,as they stand out a bit on the metallic paint even though I gloss coated the whole fuselage prior to decal application Cheers Alex
  3. Well,to be honest,I don't really like the look of the Boeing 787.I find the shape quite boring compared to older airliners. And if not for the Star Wars R2D2 Dreamliner decals,I would never have built any 787.Same goes for the A350. But in another thread here on Britmodeller concerning the ANA Star Wars livery,8ADecs produced a very nice set for the R2D2 787,actually for Hasegawas 1/200 787-9,but he rescaled it for me to match on my Revell/Zvezda Dreamliner in 1/144. The only problem was that I had to extend the fuselage as ANA's Star Wars Dreamliner is a 787-9. I found fuselage inserts at BRAZ and so the project was on... Fuselage cut apart, extensions added, filling and sanding to get a smooth surface. For that reson I was happy that the 787 has almost no panel lines As with my luck...Zvezda anounced a 787-9 for 2016... The kit itself is nice and fitting of the parts is very good. Some kit reviews state some shape issues, but as I am not that familiar with the Dreamliner anyway,I can't really say what exactly is wrong exept the wing box that I had read about. Applying the decals was very tricky and a huge task...I don't know how many hours I spent just with the decals. The only thing for sure is that I wont make another Star Wars Dreamliner.Got some friends request for one but my answer was noooo way. Well, here we are now and my R2D2 Boeing 787-9 is finished and ready for the fight against the dark forces... Cheers
  4. One of my current projects is Revell 788 which is likely to be finished in Norwegian colours but might alternatively appear as LOT. I am struggling to find a photo which gives a clear view of the arrangement of the wingtip lights. They aren't shown at all in the BM walkaround and they aren't shown clearly in the Airliner Cafe equivalent. I've skimmed through Airliners.net etc but photographers who submit pics to these sites don't usually take close-ups of the wingtips! Can anybody help with a photo or a link? Thanks in anticipation Dave G
  5. This is the 1/144 Zvezda Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner kit. In general the kit is easy and won't trouble even a beginner. Only exception the fan blades which are very fragile and require extra attention. Since the decals provided by zvezda are practically useless I decided to paint the model with the colours of Ethiopian Airlines by making my own decals. Specifically I tried to model the first aircraft of the type that was delivered to Ethiopian which is also the first aircraft of the type delivered in the Africa continent. The said aircraft is the ET-AOQ (Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner - cn 34745 / LN 49) which was delivered to Ethiopian on 17th August 2012. Shortly after the delivery, Ethiopian added some anniversary decals which don't exist on the rest of its 787 fleet. Those were the description of the type "Boeing 787" and the words "Africa First" which indicate the 1st aircraft of the type for Africa. The cabin and cockpit windows, doors and all stencils are from the excellent "Boeing Colours" decal sheet of DACO including the photo-etched pitots and AOA sensors which are included with the sheet. All the rest are designed and printed on decal paper by me at home using a cheap EPSON inkjet printer. Hope you enjoy it. George
