Here is my finished Boeing 777-FB5 in 1/144 scale which has been converted from the Revell B777-300ER kit. Presented in the attractive Korean Air livery sporting registration HL8251. This is the 2nd time I have done this conversion, having previously built my British Airways B777-236(ER). It’s a lovely little conversion and the added bonus is that the freighter version of the B777 uses the same engines and extended wing tips as the B777-300(ER). I did do a WIP post before on how to do this conversion when I built my BA B777. The decals are from Draw Decal and the wing markings are from RichW. Paints used were Ford Riveria Blue from Halfords which I found was a good match for the light blue of Korean Air. Halfords Appliance White for the lower fuselage & nacelles and racking grey for the wings and stabilisers. The ‘silver’ stripe through the fuselage was my own mix of Revell Aqua colours 371 and 90. I opted to paint the silver line first and then mask off the areas for the light blue and white sections. The metals are from Revell’s Aqua range. I enjoyed this build as it made a nice change from the Airliner’s I usually build as it’s the first time I’ve built a freighter model. I am currently working on the new Zvezda B757 kit and a B787-8. My last Star Wars logo jet. I had this one finished some weeks ago but not yet photographed for the RFI. Now here it is finally. The build was straight forward without issues like the other 777s. Most fiddly parts are the landing gears with their detailed but also tiny parts. The decal sheet is from BS MODELLE. I used decals from him before,so I was a bit surprised with the problems I faced here. Some decals are wrongly designed and shaped so lots of cutting and aligning was necessary. Some elements were impossible to get in the exact location otherwise issues would occur in other places. It doesnt affect the overall appearance so I can live with it. The windows are from Authentic Airliners,details from the kits decals and spares. Paints are Gunze white primer for the fuselage,gloss coated with Gunze Premium gloss before and after decaling. Grey is Gunze grey 315 and metallics are Gunze chrome,aluminium and burnt metal. I wanted to take a group shot with all 3 Star Wars themed models but the space was not big enough...😊 May the force be with you Alex- 12 replies

Besides ANA,LATAM of Chile also added a Star Wars jet to their fleet. They chose the attractive Galaxy's Edge Storm Trooper scheme for one of their Boeing 777. When I found those decals from PAS on ebay,the decision was easy. The quality of the decals is very good,the only downside is that it comes without instructions. So a lot of research on the net and careful photo study is inevitable. Also some careful trimming in some places is necessary. I had a 3 Zvezda/Revell 777s in my stash and so the project was on. The Zvezda kit is superb with mostly good fit,so the build was troublefree. The fuselage was painted with Gunze white surface primer 1500,clear coated with Gunze premium gloss. The wings were done with Gunze grey 315 and the metallics are different Gunze and Testors paints. As the decals have window holes,I left the windows open on the kit and filled them with Krystal Klear. The silver frames come from the great Revell decal sheet as well as all stencils. This will be my final Star Wars logo jet,together with the R2D2 Dreamliner And the ,still in production, ANA 777-300 BB-8.Finishing this is a bit delayed as I had to wait for some decals for it. It will make a nice line up and a great addition to my collection of special liveries. Cheers Alex

Another one for my collection of special liveries. This particular 777 entered service with this livery in 2013 and will be repainted back to its standard scheme this year. EVA AIR's Hello Kitty aircrafts have proven to be vety popular among travelers,so they had many different Hello kitty planes in their fleet. The decals are from 8A decs and are very nicely printed allthough on a very thin carrierfilm,so application of the large segments has to be done very carefully. The kit is the well known Zvezda 777-300. The build was straight forward with no major issues.The installation of the landing gear and doors is the most tricky part. The fuselage was spray painted with Gunze white surface primer 1500,clear coated prior and after decalling with Gunze Premium Gloss. All other parts are also painted with Gunze paints. Light weathering and highlighting the slats and flaps was done with a sharp pen. Two more of this giant airliner are on the bench currently,both with special liveries as well. Stay tuned Cheers Alex

Good afternoon all, The latest off the production line: Zvezda's 1/144th scale Boeing 777-300ER finished in Emirates' livery using 26-Decals. This kit is by far the best airliner model I've ever built - it fell together and it's the first time I've ever built a model where not even the tiniest bit of filler was needed. Detail is also very good and a huge step up from the old Minicraft Triple Seven kits. 26's decals were a pleasure, too - all in all a very enjoyable build. My first build of the Zvezda 777. Its a superb kit with lots of details.The only problem I had was some warped parts. No idea if this is a common problem with this kit or if I was just "lucky" to get a "monday kit"...I have another one in the stash and and a quick glance it seems ok. The build itself is pretty straight and the overall fit of the parts is good. Paints used for this bird are Tamyia Pure White from a spray can,Testors Voodoo Grey for the wings and engines,and Testors metallics.Sealed as usual with Testors metallic sealer and polished with Tamyia Wax. The decal set for this special livery of Air New Zealand comes from PAS decals.They are very well done and they fit on the model without much trouble. The only problems are the cabin windows as they tend to disappear on the darker parts of the Hobbit decals.Here I had to use windows from my Doyusha 777-200 kit ( this kit is also up here in the RFI section) as they had silver frames around the windows which makes them better visible. The finished kit is huge and an impressive size comparison to the classic 747... Another nice addition to my fleet of special liveries. Cheers and on with the pics. Here is my completed Zvezda Boeing 777-31H/ER "Big Foot" wearing 26Decals Emirates colours. Built as a commission for a happy Emirates frequent flyer who wants to remember her most recent voyage in 1/144 scale. Not show standards, and quickly assembled in less than 7 nights. The kit is very well engineered, made better than the normal civil kit with a sensibly designed 2 piece whole wing assembly that can be plugged straight into the completed fuselage - ideal for shipping to the customer and reduces masking and filling by many hours. I'm not sure if Zvezda or 26Decals are at fault but the kits window spacing does not match the decals so the window decals had to be added in batches of 2's and 3's to marry up with the kits windows. Not really a problem but a big time waster. Having built the Minicraft 777-200 years back with costly Braz resin add-on parts, Zvezda's kit really does shame the alternative. Those whopping big Genny-Lec's (GE's) are a mini kit in themselves with superbly engineering forward and rear turbine blades. Minus the "Big Foot's" undercarriage, this model has been assembled as a ceiling hanging display. Having just built the same customer a 1/144 Emirates a380, the 777-3ER certainly is a true Boeing giant. and the previous commission for the same client Thanks for dropping in John- 15 replies

Another commission for the same client who recently had me build them an A380 in Emirates colours. This is the Zvezda 777-300ER dressed up in the 26Decals Emirates 777-31H livery. My client has just flown out of Stanstead on one of these bound for Dubai and wanted another reminder of her journey in 1/144 scale as a ceiling hanging display. The Kit: WOW - this is an amazing kit and certainly far better than the Minicraft 777 which I have previously built and had to alter with numerous Braz resin front-end and engine corrective parts. Zvezda have put some incredible engineering into their moulding detail and the central one piece wing join is a great way to hold the correct profile (their 747-8 and 787-8 kist both use the same attachment method) While 26 decals have never disappointed me, either Zveda or 26 have the window spacing wrong. I've had to attach the window decals in groups of 3 to avoid spacing problems. I should have this completed within the next few days or so.

I'm at the stage of needing a serious stash purge and I'm going to dispose of a number of kits which I know I'll never build. Several years ago I acquired a load of kits from the estate of a modeller who had died. These included a couple of Minicraft 777s in the American and United boxings. Both are still shrink-wrapped. I don't have a 777 in my collection and I've always rather liked it in Austrian livery which is available from F-DCAL. I know the kit suffers from "shape issues" apparently particularly affecting the nose but I can't find a clear explanation of what exactly is wrong and how it can be corrected. Can anyone advise me whether it is feasible and/or worthwhile to correct the Minicraft kit or should I just put the examples I have on eBay and build a -300ER from the Zvezda kit? -
Another airliner off my production line is the very nice Hasegawa Boeing 777. As with all of Hasegawa's LL200 Airliners, they are easy to build and very acurate in shape. I really like those kits and I have quite a number of different types in my stash. Sadly that Hasegawa seem to reduce their range every year,now only a small number of types are still in their catalogue. This kit I bought around 20 years ago...how the time flies...and it sat in my stash ever since.End of last year I finally decided to get it started and now here we are. Built straight from the box,no changes made. The decals were still in very good condition,which is a surprise as one never knows with Hasegawa kits.This is in fact the only fault,at least with airliner kits of them,that the decal sets vary greatly in quality.Some are pristine after many years while others seem to become unusable only after a short time already. In this case everything was fine and they went on beautifully and matched the model perfect. All paints are Revell and Testors enamels applied with my airbrush. The old Thai livery is one of my favourite ones and it really suits the 777. One of my cats lurking in the background...

This kit is quite difficult to find nowadays. It was released somewhere end of the 90s by Doyusha with Japan Airlines decals. The kit has recessed windows on the fuselage which need to be filled and sanded if decals are used.The cockpit windows are too small anyway. Panellines are also deeper as on actual kits so the Doyusha 777 shows a bit its age.Its nonetheless superior to the Minicraft offering though...ok,that was not difficult but I had to mention it anyway... Fitting of all parts is very good and as the kit consists only of a few parts,like the Hasegawa 1/200 Boeing 777 kit for example,the build is quick and easy. A nice addition are the 3 different engine options provided by Doyusha,so one can build every version and airline with this kit. The engines are of course much simpler in design compared to the Zvezda kit but they do the job. For my build I opted for the British Airways Landor livery as the first 777 for BA had been delivered in this elegant scheme. The decal set comes from Xtra Decal (Hannants) and provides registrations for 4 aircraft. I chose to build the very first BA 777. Paints used are Revell light grey 371 for the upper fuselage,Humbrol 15 blue for the lower fuselage and engines,Testors Voodoo grey for the wings and Testors metallics. All sealed with Testors metallic sealer and polished with Tamyia Wax. The finished kit,although much simpler than the Zvezda 777-300,still represents a nice 777-200.Too bad as this was the only one in my stash.I would like to make another one...hopefully I find one somewhere ...
