  1. Hello all, this is just a place-holder at the moment for my build for this 'Less than a Tenner' GB. I have decided the first subject will be the Airfix Sopwith Pup, I have had it a long time, but I cannot recall when I did buy it, but it was when Airfix were doing a 'Buy one, get one Free' promo. That is good news, because however much I paid for this or the DH4 I bought at the same time, in reality it only cost half that. I have done some research though, and I found that in this magazine... ...there is this advert from MIL Slides... ... which shows the Pup in 1988 was £1.75. This is the boxing I have, the kit is moulded in the cream plastic, and looks very sharp and crisp: As I had some of the £10 left over, I hunted for some transfers and found something suitably subdued for this drab workhorse... ... and they cost me £5.00 from Hannants this week: ... so that makes £6.75 in total, and even adding 75p for the postage is still under budget. This morning and afternoon I was hunting through all my other Windsock Magazines trying to find an article that I remembered about improving the Pup. I looked through three times but could I find it? No. Then, I tried the fourth and final time, and lo! there it was. So any more upgrades to this will be scratch built (if I do any) except for the rigging which will probably be InfiniModel rigging thread which has not been bought for this but is helping me out with a Felixstowe I am doing in another GB. Hopefully I will get started soon, I have two GB's on the go at the moment but this will start soon. All the best everyone with your builds! Ray
  2. Hello to all of you guys and girls on this forum.I hope you are all doing good and are safe and healthy.I present you my latest finished model. The 1:72 A.Z.Models Zlin - 242 L.I built this little thing as a retiring present for one of the aviation goround crew - mechanic in our air force aviation academy squadron. The kit itself is pretty hard to work on.I t requires a lot of effort to assemble correctly.I cut the canopy in two to make it in the opened position.I made the wing lights out of transparent sprue and the seat belt out of tamiya tape.I painted the model with tamiya and gunze paints. The decals are from the ancient blue rider set for macedonian and slovenian af. Enjoy the photos
  3. Hi, I have just finished it. This is Aero A-100, Czechoslovak light bomber and recce plane from early 1930s. Some 40 of them were constructed and they served in Czechoslovak, then Slovak Airforces. This is airframe no. 9 (A100.09) It presented colours from Autumn 1939. During September campaign in Poland (in which some Slovak AF took part on Letov 328 and Avia 534) they introduced besides early style Slovak national insignias German crosses. This machine is said to be from Cvicna letka, Letecky Pluk 3, Piestany, Slovakia, September 1939. The WIP thread (along with massive scratch conversion of A-100 to A-101) is here: I added grill, navi lamps and decals (Slovak) by Blue Rider and German (by my drawer) This is my #18 this year Some details: Landing lamps (drilled and filled then with transparent epoxy glue Grill of cooler made of thin plastic cards And rotable propeller: The kit was of 1989 production Comments welcome Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
  4. For my next trick, I'll be building one of Eduard's apparently excellent 1/72 Nieuport 17s; I have a deep fondness for the Nieuport fighters of World War I, which is a perfectly normal thing that nobody should look askance at. I'm building Nie.17 A313, which was issued to 1 Squadron at Ballieul on 4 January 1917 and lost in action over Coulin, near Wavrin, on 22 April 1917, the first of five victory claims by Leutnant August Hanko of Jasta 28. Lieutenant AW Wood, the pilot, was wounded, but survived to be taken prisoner. As there were three AW Woods with the RAF at the close of hostilities, I have been unable to determine anything further of Lieutenant Wood's fate, and welcome any light that anyone can shed on his subsequent movements. He doesn't appear to have remained with the RAF in the postwar era. Eduard, in their infinite wisdom, have issued the kit without any RFC marking options, but why would they? Virtually all of the top British and Canadian aces, Mannock, McCudden, Ball, Bishop, etc etc, flew it, so there's tons of options and zero competition. But no. Presumably in revenge for Munich, the kit includes markings only for French subjects, and their Nie.23 boxing includes only Belgian, Russian, and Czech markings. Little...devils. Fortunately, Blue Rider have ridden to the rescue on an azure horse straight out of a Kandinsky painting, presumably, and sell a sheet of markings for RFC machines. It will be noted that this is about 20-25% of the total aftermarket RFC decals out there, excluding Pegasus's lovely generic RFC roundels and serials sets. However, when I looked closely at the sheet, the red centers appear to be misaligned: Can you see it too? Is it just me? Well, go figure, the Pegasus decals are terrific, but do not include the French-proportioned Nieuport-style roundels. So what's a fellow to do? I'm going to use some Xtradecal RAF roundels from the sixties, that's what. The blue is a bit too dark, but it's what I have, and any port in a storm. I contemplated cutting out the red from the BR decals and patching over the hole with Xtradecals, but my hands are not steady and it seems a recipe for disaster, all told. Moving along: We have our PE seat assembled, more or less, and it only looks wonky if you get this close. I'm pretty pleased with myself here. I also sanded down the sides of the fuselage interior in preparation for the PE detail to be added, and primered it white.
