  1. It's been a while since my last attempt at the Valom Voodoo. Had an absolute disaster with my attempts at applying Alclad & it ended up being binned, so here's my second attempt. Hopefully I can complete this pig of a kit without it going earth bound! Included in the box is some remnants from the other binned kit. A painted resin seat & the modified exhausts that had the extended tubing. If i remember rightly I've got to modify the tail fin. The older kit had a horrible light brown plastic which seemed quite brittle & didn't respond to plastic cement that well, unlike this example which comes in the pretty normal grey plastic. Assembled the basic cockpit which I'll just paint up & add the adequate cockpit decals. The width of the cockpit tub isn't quite wide enough but seems pretty solid once in location. Some plasticard used as spacers between the wheel bay roof & the floor keep everything in place. Had to add this block of plastic to keep the IP upright. There's no location points anywhere on this kit which keeps you dry fitting everything. Built up the wing section including the wheel bays which went together OK, but when marrying up to the fuselage, you have to make sure the wheel bay side walls don't interfere with the fuselage as everything's butt joined. Not looking forward to joining it all up! That's that with the Voodoo whilst I recover some sanity! Thanks for looking Martin
  2. Hello again. Well, I am excited today to tell you that the postman just brought something I have wanted for a long time -- a PJ Productions 1/72 resin F-84F Thunderstreak. While like most, I would have preferred a new injection kit, complete with Jato/Rato and Mk7 nuke options, the PJ Productions kit has long been held to be more accurate (particularly in the nose area!) than the Airfix or Italieri offerings, long overdue for a modern re-tooling!!! Anyway, I am glad to have it at last. This time the kit comes with European markings, and the box looks like this: Those on the far side of the pond will be glad to hear that Hannants has them in stock, from whence came my soft-side boxed kit. Here's what's in the box: You'll note that some of the tiny parts had come adrift in the bag, including some PE pieces, so for now, I'm holding onto every bit (including some that may only be smuts) until I can sort things. You will note some rather large sprue parts on the fuse halves, which will need sawing off. Everything else looks quite good, with very little flash and very sharp molding. The kit offers three ejection seats, based on mark, and two vertical stabilizers, again based on mark that you are building. There are good details in all wheel bays. The are also two nicely-formed vacuform canopies, which is good is case one is messed up while building, and also, they eliminate the separate rear quarter windows of other existing kits: Below, more of the kit's detail is shown; particularly the detail in the cockpit side walls: Despite the inclusion of the well-printed Euro markings, I will of course, be contrary and use American markings, the old Microscale sheet for the 81st FBW, 78th FBS "Bushmasters". As a nod to my British hosts and fellow modelers, at least there is the Bentwaters connection! Anyway, as reviews of this it are scarce, I thought it would be nice to throw one in during the building process. Little "PJ" here is now due for it's bath in Simple Green detergent -- stay tuned... Ed
  3. Does anyone know if it's possible to get any 1/72 decals for an 81st TFW Warthog from the late 80's at Bentwaters or Woodbridge? I've searched eBay, Hannants and Google and can't find any. Did anybody ever make them?
  4. Right. Thats it decided. Im going with Tamyas A-10 in 48th and the grey colours (MASK-10A I think they called it, no FS numbers assigned apparently, so its best guess). Almost OOB this one, just some nicer Mavericks to use, Hasegawa Rockeyes look pretty much identical to the kit bits, but see how they go. Load will be a simple and realistic one with the ALQ-119 a pair of single rail AGM-65s (1xTV and 1xIIR) and a pair or two of Mk20s, but that may change as I keep searching for photos. Ive read that they performed better with pylons 2 and 10 removed and were often used that way in Iraq/Gulf, so I think Id be safe in leaving them off for this too as its a combat configuration, so they say, and looks that little bit different which I like. Decals are a bit pants and many should be in grey rather than black, so thatll need sorting along with deciding on Humbrol enamels to throw at it. Any advice re these would be most excellent. Intake covers have been considered, but see how it works out. How hard can it be? Ghost Greys? Compass Greys? I know next to nothing about US colours!! Thats my first plea for help!! Why an A-10..? Well........ And with stations 2 and 10 removed - Good luck everyone!
