  1. My proposed build is Hobbyboss Grumman F8F-1 Bearcat in the markings of Carrier Air Group 19 off USS Boxer (CV21) in June 1947 flown by CDR H.E Cook according to the Cutting Edge Decals I have. I also have some Barracudacast resin wheels and Eduard mask and fabric seatbelts to add to the project. My record on completing kit projects is atrocious so we will see how this one goes. Always been a fan of carrier aviation so this is a good group build for me. Some pics prior to the start date Thanks for looking. Grahame
  2. This is Typhoon 1b MN595 HF-D of 183 Sqdn RAF in which FO Robert David Ackers was killed in action on 18 August 1944. FO Ackers’ squadron was undertaking an armed recce operation with cannons and rockets in the fiercely contested actions in the Falaise area when his aircraft was hit by flak. It was seen to stall and crash some 6km north of Argentan. The body of the 21 year old pilot was recovered and laid to rest in the churchyard of the village of Occagnes. My attempt was to broadly model the aircraft before it undertook its final mission, parked up at the edge of a Normandy field. I used some "modeller's licence" to show a number of panels removed, but this is unlikely to have been done in reality when the aircraft was armed up. Also, the small repeat of the squadron code and serial number at the top of the fin (noticed on another of the squadron's aircraft a few days after the loss of this one) may - or may not - have been on this particular aircraft. Sorry, I should have dusted the model before these photos!... Aftermarket stuff included BarracudaCast seat, wheels and carburettor intake, Airscale instrument panel decals, Maketar insignia paint masks, Master rocket set (fabulous!) & Brassin cannons. The wheel chocks were my first attempt at 3d design & printing (let me know if you would like the .stl file). The build thread is here. Once again, I would like to give my thanks to those who followed along and offered advice, information (thanks Bryan Ribbans, @Chris Thomas ) and even donated (thanks Iain @(ex)Sgtrafman) some no longer available after-market parts - I am moved by your generosity. In fact the kit itself was a gift from my old modelling club when I moved away from the area. I took the model to show them that I had actually built it, rather than leaving it in the stash. It survived that trip (to the south of France and back!) without any breakages just before the Telford show (where it received an award in the competition).... Thanks for viewing Pat Camp
  3. I've had this one maturing in the stash for the past 6-years. It was given as an incredibly generous leaving present by my old club mates at AMV83 in Provence, My hope is to get it built and take with me to their annual show later in the year. One can but hope! I've bought the occasional item of after-market over the intervening years and its baby brother to build at the same time as a "paint mule'. Time to make a start..... Here is a photo of the huge box. Very nice box art and presentation.... A couple of the sprues are huge. Compare them to the A4 sized instruction manual.... I bought a Barracuda seat, wheels and carburettor intake ring for the kit.... I've started with sticking bits together and will post progress shortly. I haven't decided on which aircraft to finish it as yet - but have plenty of reading material to hand so will see what ideas come from that. Thanks for looking and I hope you pop by from time to time to see how its going, Cheers, Pat

  5. Hello everyone, I've been banging away at this one for a few months now and finally managed to get it finished yesterday, I admire those who can maintain interest in a project for months on end. I asked a few questions over on the WWII forum when I started this project which is how I ended up doing this particular aircraft, the masks I'd purchased had a few accuracy issues but I had all the relevant bits for this aircraft which the very helpful Chris Thomas pointed me towards so a very large thanks to you Chris. I used the following after market bits and bobs, Barracudacast cockpit, wheels, intake and exhausts. Ultracast Tempest tailplanes and tail wheel well. I used some montex masks for the SF codes but had to cut the N myself, the masks were a bit stretched so I opted to use decals for the roundels and fin flashes. A couple with a little photo editing as per Mr Arkady! Thanks for taking the time to look and all comments are very welcome. Cheers...
