These two army pals are to be a part of a diorama I'm building but I surprised myself by how well they turned out so I venture to put them up here for your inspection. I struggle with figures, especially small ones, and have come to consider them just as accessories to my vehicles. The result is that I only paint them four or five times a year at most. Just lately, with several vehicles reaching completion at once, I've painted six of them. It seems that Miniac on YouTube has the right idea when he says the way to paint better minis is to paint MORE minis. I thought my poor figure painting was due to my eye and hand problems but perhaps it was merely lack of practice. I have noticed that as I get older, I lose condition, skills, slimness, a lot faster than formerly, so I guess the thing to do is to follow that sage advice and paint a figure or two each week just for the fun of it.

Valentine Mk.IX, 50 RTR, 23rd Armoured Brigade, Tunisia 1943 The Mk.IX valentine was made in answer to the need of a more powerful gun than the 2pdr. To accommodate the 6pdr gun the turret needed to be redesigned. Vickers engineers freed up space for the new gun by reducing the turret crew to 2 men and the coaxial machinegun and smoke bomb launcher were removed. The removal of the machine gun meant that the tank couldn't defend itself against infantry and so was unpopular with its crews. The bomb launcher issue was partially resolved by mounting two grenade launchers externally. But in essence the Mk.IX had turned the Valentine into a tank destroyer. The Bronco kit itself is pretty comprehensive and the only aftermarket I used was the RB Models metal gun barrel and the front fenders were replaced with brass sheet to allow some damage to be added. The model was painted in the Desert Pink ZI / Dark Olive Green PFI scheme with MRP paints. The sand/dust weathering effects were created with a mix of pigments. The thumb print on the front fender in the above photo has since been removed. A few detail photos. And finally the photo I used as a reference. Overall I'm pretty pleased with the way this one has turned out but as always there are things that I felt that I could have done better. The urge to get this finished so that I can start a new project has meant that some additional stowage and crew will have to wait for another day. My first GB and my first III. As I've never built one before, I've gone back to start with an Ausf. A. I've got less wheels to paint, so I'm already ahead! There's a lot of plastic in this Bronco kit, 5 sprues plus hull plus 200 track links plus 400 pins (another first for me - working track links). No interior, but a lot of detail inside the turret for me to stress over before hiding it away. Only 10 Ausf. A's were built before suspension issues put an end to them, but a few of them made it into Poland in 1939. I'll be building the box art one, Bronco think it's a 1.Panzer Division tank, Osprey think it's a 2.Panzer Division tank. Who to trust? I want it to be 1.Panzer Division, because it's all about firsts!

Sand A Sturmgeschütz III Ausf D, in North Africa Four of these were sent to help Rommel: one sank on the way, two were captured. And of the fourth? I know not? Of the captured examples, one survives and was restored to running condition, AM stuff I doubt I'll represent the Desert Fox, but some of the other figures here may make the build. The decals are, possibly, overkill, since the kit contains all that are needed.

Hi all, My first model for a very long time, I was going to do the Trumpeter enhanced armour chally with eduard etch bits, but thought I would keep it a bit simpler to start with, so out of the kits acquired so far, the Chally, AA CrAARV on chally 1mk3 and Takom 432, I am going to attempt the Bronco A34 Comet (all the kits have a bit of a personal touch in real Armour except CrAARV), so first photo is the tracks found these and couldn’t resist them by Masterclub, so far pretty impressed and happy, going together easily not rushing them taken about 2 hours per 50 link length

I completed these Bronco Models cruiser tanks last year and for the most part found them to be enjoyable builds but there were certainly times that my patience was tested. The A13 was my first attempt at weathering a dusty desert appearance, not sure that I quite pulled it off. Painted with MRP paints and weathered with MIG pigments.
