The BAe-146 is the RAF’s current Command Staff Air Transport aircraft, with 32(TR) Sqn at RAF Northolt. The 4 aircraft in service are due to be retired by Spring 2022, the replacement being undecided at this time. As a bit of a KUTA, to take part in a speed challenge build and as I’m kinda involved, I’ve dug this kit out of the stash and will be looking to complete it by the middle of February. The package… The instructions (this kit is not for beginners; you’re on your own, Kid!!)…. Markings guide is better…. The contents… …and an idea of the scope of the task…. The quality of the moulds is good and as to be expected, a bit unrefined in places. Some flash to clean up and clear that this is a kit for modellers, not assemblers. The clock is running…. -
When I posted my Fokker 100 a few days ago I mentioned that I had a second Air UK model on the way and here it is - the Revell BAe-146-100 (the TNT boxing) finished as G-UKJF circa 1993. G-UKJF had a rather nomadic life beginning with TABA Airlines of Brazil in 1983 and ending with WDL Aviation in Germany who retired her in 2012. She was with Air UK from 1990 until 1998. Like the Revell 146-200 the -100 kit is an easy, pleasant build apart from the fiddly undercarriage. I deleted the cargo door on the aft left fuselage and scribed a few panel lines but otherwise the build is OOB. Paint is overall Halfords white with Tamiya and Revell metallics. Livery decals are by Two Six with an Authentic Airliners windscreen and detail decals from the kit sheet. Thanks for looking and as always constructive criticism is welcome. Although they flew in full livery, Sabena’s BAe-146s and Avro RJs were actually operated by Delta Air Transport (DAT) which would later form the nucleus of Brussels Airlines following the collapse of Sabena in 2001. Here is the Revell BAe-146-200, one of my favourite airliner kits, finished as OO-DJJ circa 1996. OO-DJJ was delivered new to DAT in 1991 and apart from a brief lease to Malmo Aviation in 2003/4 served until 2007. She is now a water bomber fighting fires with Neptune Aviation Services in the USA. The Revell BAe-146 is a straightforward and enjoyable build apart from the rather fiddly undercarriage. The cabin window line is slightly too high and the windows are too small which isn't a big deal if you use decals. l placed the window decals about 1mm lower for better alignment with the large titles. Paint is overall Halfords white. Decals are by Daco with Authentic Airliners windows. In 1996 OO-DJJ and some other DAT BAe-146s were decorated with “Suske and Wiske” (aka Spike and Suzy and other names depending on country) to celebrate 100 years of Belgian cartoon strips. Apparently there were plans for Tintin to feature on the Avro RJs but copyright issues got in the way. Thanks for looking and constructive criticism is welcome.
