  1. In Q4 2023 Q1 2024 ICM is to release a 1/48th Martin B-26B Marauder kit - ref. 48320 Source: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ICM48320 V.P.
  2. Eduard is to rebox in June 2020 the hasegawa 1/72nd Martin B-26 Marauder kit - ref. Source: http://www.kitreviewsonline.de/eduard-pressekonferenz-in-nuernberg/ V.P.
  3. You might think I'm fooling myself, but it wasn't until today (after 50 years of interest in aviation and modeling), that I discovered that the three basic World War II American light and medium bombers (A-20, B-25 and B-26) most likely have no anti-icing installation whatsoever on the wings. I know that high-altitude flying heavy bombers (B-17, B-24 and B-29) and airliner-derived designs (C-47, A-29) have black rubber boots integrated with the wing leading edge. PBY and British Blenheim are similar. And here what's going on? Was it assumed that a twin-engine bomber would never have to get through the clouds of a stormy weather front? Shed some light on this at least, please. Cheers Michael PS. Although Wikipedia mentions the anti-icing installation as the basic change introduced in the B-25C, but the B-25H/J cutaways by Mike Badrocke/Aviagraphica are completely silent on this subject
  4. Hi Britmodellers, I'm looking for information and pictures of the B-26B flown by the 387th B.G. in 1945 named Hamilton Hey Maker II. Her serial was 42-96205, coded KX-N in the inventory of 387th BG/ 558th BS. There's a Kit's World decal sheet with her markings, and I want to portray this aircraft at the end of her career in 1945. All I found so far is a color profile in the Osprey book "B-26 Units of the Eighth and Ninth Air Forces" by Jerry Scutts, so I'm pretty much stucked with my research here. The plane was in the inventory of the 397th BG before transferred to 387th. If someone has a photo of this plane, or any idea of the original source where I can find it (books, websites, etc), and share the information with me, I would be more than happy! 😀
  5. A-72 Péronne Airfield on December 23, 1944 - 0715h - Checks completed ... starting engines It was in 2000 when I stumbled over this Monogram kit in my stash which I had long put off because I had no idea of how to make the rather big model more exciting. And to be exciting it deserved. I have liked the Marauder since my early days because it looks very smart, probably the smartest of all US medium and heavy bombers. Somehow I had the inspiration that this model would lend itself to electrification. The spacious bomb bay, the large engine nacelles and the easy access to the various points of illumination made it an ideal object for such an experiment. 0740h - Awaiting take-off clearance ... Target: Rail bridge at Eller, Germany I installed two electric circuits (1.5V for the engines - 3V for the lights) which are fed by two batteries in the bomb bay. The navigation lights, landing lights and both engines can be activated separately or in unison by the dorsal turret turning a switch in the rear fuselage. The model was built with a few accessories like landing flaps, wheels, machine gun barrels, canopies and metal Pratt & Whitneys from Hi-Tech. These with the electric motors behind them - their shafts reaching through the engines - are heavy enough to hold the nose firmly down on the ground. In the end I was delighted that everything matched so well. 0850h - Passing over the Ardennes ... trying to avoid trouble Missouri Mule II was a B-26B-55-MA of the 9th Air Force's 596th BS, 397th BG ('Bridge Busters'), assigned to 1/Lt George W. Parker and crew. After relocating from Rivenhall to the continent X2-M completed at least 93 missions before it was lost in a take-off accident with a different crew on April 6, 1945. 1/Lt Parker is second from right I hope my pictures live up to the perfect shape of this plane. 6. A nice film clip taken around D-day showing pre opp preparations and take off of Mustangs of the 354th FG Shame there's no sound especially towards the end. B-26 Marauders being serviced and bombed up. Again no sound.
  7. B-26B/C Invader Decals Latin America Countries (D4803) 1:48 ICM via Hannants The brand new tool Invaders in 1:48 from those fine folks at ICM are really great kits. This set of additional decals has been produced for those aircraft which saw service on the Korean War. Invaders were some of the first aircraft to be involved flying at the time from their vases in Japan, and the last aircraft to conduct combat operations with the last mission just 24 minutes before the ceasefire was signed. In they accounted for an impressive 38,500 vehicles, 406 locomotives, 3,700 railway trucks, and seven enemy aircraft on the ground destroyed. The set arrives in a re-sealable foil bag stapled to a header card, with the decals covered by a sheet of translucent paper to keep moisture from damaging the carrier film. There are options for four airframes on the sheet, The decals are printed under ICM's banner, and are in good registration, sharpness and colour density, with a commendably thin gloss carrier film cut close to the printed areas. The few stencils included are crisply printed and legible under magnification, which is always a sign of good printing and attention to detail. From the sheet you can decal one of the following (or more subject to the caveat above): B-26B, 2/5 G.Az Brazilian Air Force, Natal Air Base 1962 B-26B, 2/5 G.Az Brazilian Air Force, Natal Air Base 1962 (aircraft fitted with replacement Black nacelle) B-26C, Colombian Air Force 1951 (All black Air craft) B-26C Cuban Air Force 1957 (All black aircraft) Additional scrap diagrams show the nose area with the engines out of the way to enable correct decaling of the red prop-warning lines and other decals in that area. On the back page the wings are covered with decal placement for the stars and wing walkway boxes. Conclusion A really nice set of decals that expand your options for the new kit (when it arrives we'll be sure to review it), or for the old Revell/Monogram kit if you have one knocking about. Highly recommended. Available in the UK from importers H G Hannants Ltd. Review sample courtesy of
  8. Ahoy. I've not posted anything for a good few months now. But have started slowly working away on the B-26B kit from ICM that winged its way to me at Christmas. I've always been a fan of the twin engine WWII American planes and I have fond memories of the Monogram B-26C kit I made as a kit. So this one was a must for me. Bought some pre painted Eduard seat belts to spruce the interior up a tad and that'll be it for aftermarket goodies - unless I spot any decals for a nice NMF that change my mind. Fuselage was glued together last night, opted to glue the interior bulkhead bits into one side first and make sure everything lined up. The nose wheel doors were a little faffy. I decided it was best to glue them to the underside of the pilots floor rather than the fuselage sides as ICM suggests. Seams look reasonable with no big steps / gaps. But did dry fit the nose section and the join there looks like it's going to be right pain with some steps either side. Also just realised I've forgotten to add the decal to instrument panel 🤦‍♂️ Note sure if I'll try and squeeze that in now or just leave it. Thanks for looking. Aaron
  9. Here is my Minicraft 1:144 Martin JM-1 Marauder which I built back in 2014. It represents 66749/U8 of the US Marine Corps in January 1945. The JM-1 was a target tug variant developed from the B-26B/C Marauder used by the US Navy and the US Marine Corps. Despite releasing the kit for this variant, the modifications needed were hinted at vaguely in the instructions and so the work is very much do-it-yourself. I used a Matador Models white metal cockpit for the interior. The forward gun packs had to be scraped off and sanded smooth, the hole for the upper turret had to be plugged and the fuselage spine sanded smooth too and the tail cone had the guns removed and was reshaped to match references. I opened some windows and added any missing aerials. Wing lights were also added. The kit was painted with brush with decals coming from the kit. The matt varnish was airbrushed. Thanks for looking Miguel
  10. Hello everyone! Here is Martin B-26G-25-MA Marauder, 44-68171 “8X/02”, of 1 Escadrille, GBM I/22 “Maroc”, Armée de l’Air, at St. Dizier, France, in May 1945. This was a conversion of Minicraft 1:144 kit I did in 2014 with the scheme markings from a Print Scale decal sheet. I added a Matador Models white metal cockpit, opened up all the windows and thinned the turret guns as much as possible. Despite the white metal cockpit part, I had to add a little extra weight to prevent the kit from tipping on its tail. The gun barrels of the external gun packs were scraped off the fuselage sides and replaced with new ones from either plastic or metal rod (can't remember!). The major point of the conversion was changing the angle of the main wings. The F and G models had the main wings raised 3,5 degrees at the front to help reduce the landing speeds. I managed to alter the tabs and root holes so the wings would sit at the new angle and then blended in the wings to the fuselage at the roots with filling and sanding. The kit was completely painted by brush with only the varnish being applied with an airbrush. Thanks for looking and all comments are welcome Miguel
  11. Another Marauder piece, this time a 598th BS plane, the Missouri Mule II ...
  12. Just finished this one build out of box, decals from Print Scale, and a photo of original from internet. Cheers Jes
  13. This is an older build but I don't think I've posted these photos before. I did re-scribe the model and added a few bits from the Airfix B-26. MicroScale decals.
  14. B-26B-20 Martin Marauder of the 450 B.Sqn, somewhere over France in 1944. This particular airplane 41-31765 ‘Fightin Cock’, was written off 12 august 1944 due to Flak damage. It crashed while it did a wheels up emergency landing, skidding into the airbase tower on it's home airfield killing the pilot and co-pilot, before coming to a halt. I’ve always loved the colourful and fancy looking Marauders, despite a rather fringy reputation in it’s early carreer days. I still think it’s one of the best looking ww2 US bomber. Everything is 3D modelled and rendered in Modo 902, with just a little post render work in Photoshop https://flic.kr/p/HhCn8z (the link to a larger copy) hope you like it ..
  15. Hi Guies, today i would like to show you, one of my recent completed builds. It´s the superb Hasegawa B-26-B with a beauty Noseart. As allways: Done by brush, Paints are Agama and Revell. Hope you like this Beauty.. Best regards Stefan
  16. Does anyone out there are any references (images) for the TB-26 Invader, please? Martin
  17. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 Hasegawa B-26B Marauder, built from the box, with the addition of Quickboost gun barrels (QB72088) and True Details wheels (TB72026). I chose to represent 'Flak Bait', a well-known and well-documented aircraft from 449th Bomb Squadron, 322nd Bomb Group, operating from an airfield in England, 1944/1945.. 'Flak Bait' flew 202 missions until the end of the war. There's a number of original photographs on the internet, depicting 'Flak Bait' in various stages of weathering and in different weapon configurations. I tried my best to replicate what I've seen. Hasegawa's gorgeous boxtop artwork was used as a guideline, too. I painted with colors from Tamiya (XF-17) and Gunze/Mr.Hobby (H52, H53). Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel, IGM Cars & Bikes. Thanks for your interest, greetings from Vienna Roman Quite a lot of nose weight was required to prevent a "tail-sitter": Assembly was easy, as the Hasegawa kit has a very decent fit. I started painting with the base color, Aluminium. Then I applied Olive Drab to the upper surfaces and Grey to the undersides. Paint chips were done using Vaseline creme.
  18. So these are my completed entry's for the MTO GB, a thoroughly enjoyable group build full of fantastic and inspiring builds.... pop along and have a look! This was supposed to be a triple build, however life got a little in the way so my time was shortened.... I really wanted to post a topic on Christmas day called "we three twins" witty arn't I! Any way I digress.... here is a link to the wip for more info So first up for your festive perusal is a SAAF b-26 marauder that flew from Italy with no 2 squadron. The transfers are from the Xtradecals sheet "med twins", Tony O'toole helped with the set and gave a good few pointers on some of the options, what a great guy offering out his knowledge freely! Hope the back starts to improve mate.... anyway the kit is the rather old, but really rather very good, airfix in 1/72. Internal detail is very nice and there is lots of it, it goes together fine no major issues (well maybe apart from the engine necklace's) and the external details are nicely done but made of both raised and engraved panel lines. Here s how she ended up... V-Viking Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Paints were tamiya and weathering was done using micromesh between coats to create colour fade/bleaching, mixing my own shade of olive to highlight panels and using pastels to fade areas and desaturate roundels etc.... So next up is "bottoms up II" which crash landed in corsica, it's my first try at a US aircraft (since I was a child I should add) and a NMF. I do love this scheme and it was picked by my wife! It popped up when I was looking for options to do in the GB and she found it funny... I said it looked like her, and she is a yoga teacher and we'll. ... here she is Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Lucky guy.... And here is the rest of it! Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr The kit is the italieri 1/72 b-25 j/h not a bad kit goes together ok, detail is ok.... its ok.... I could have done better as well to be fair... paints were citidal for the NMF using a couple of shades to get panel variation and a little bit of humbrol, for the other colours. Pastels again to weather the transfers panels etc... Merry Christmas all C & C welcome Rob
  19. This group build has been my main focus for this year and I have given it a lot of thought. I love the MTO and everything about it, it's probably the part of the war I read/know most about, so this GB was always going to be a tough decision! However I have avoided ny natural impulses to jump to malta with a trio of blue spits and gone for something I don't do often. I have always liked the following three AC's for their agressive and powerful looks, it must be the big radials strapped to the wings! They looks very American in my eyes, or a least how I see American aircraft looking, fast and powerful! Like class muscle cars.... but in the the sky.... So enough ramble here is the muscles Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr No I did not get the marauder for the 55p woolworths price tag. They are a mixed bag, the italieri one being of the lowest standard out of the three, but the will not be lots of clever rescribe work or detailing. ....I plan to get these finished! So the options I intend to complete. B-25 will be my first American airforce build, and in NMF which will be a first for me! Transfers are form the hase boxing of 'bottoms up ii'. This is also a little gift to the wife, she is a yoga teacher and supposedly this is a yoga move! Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr And she is also a fan of the pin up look on it and the colour.... its cool I am told bottomsup by robert mulvey, on Flickr An in game computer generated image off Google B25_DSC4312 by robert mulvey, on Flickr And a better view done by a much better modeller than me on JAM forum! As ever pictures found on Google but if anyone wants them removed then let me know and they are gone! Next is the airfix marauder and I must say I am really rather impressed with the amount of detail in this kit, especially considering the age. She will be done as the below SAAF marauder from the hannants Med twins part 1 sheet, which has had the great input of forum member Tony O'toole. Nice work Tony it's a cracking set. Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr And then finally it's the revell Boston, the best for detail and the newest out of the lot! It will be built OOB as it comes with a set for a RAF bomber in Italy. ... which is also on the Xtradecals set Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr So that's a south African, American and a brit all walk into a group build.... let's see what happens! Cheers Rob
  20. I'm trying to get a good picture of the underneath of the rear fuselage of a B-26B/C with the M-6 tail turret (or the F-1 which I believe was the same), as I need to see what the shell casing outlets and the deflector look like, so not the aircraft that were modified with the shell case collector. i don't think the deflector was always left in place, though I don't have a picture of the back end of the aircraft I'm doing so I was going to fit it. I've got several B-26 books including the Wolf book, but none seem to show this area. This is the best I have found on the web so far, anyone got anything better?
  21. Hello All, Minicraft 1/144 B-26 Marauder with print scale decals. Thought I'd have a go at the hairspray technique for the chipping of the paint. Seen some pics of these aircraft looking really weather beaten. Happy to answer questions if need be and thanks for looking. Welcome to 2016! Happy Modelling Ian
  22. Kit manufacturer: Hasegawa (Kit no. E26) Scale: 1/72 Type: B-26C Marauder Extras used: Eduard Photoetch Zoom Set Paints and colours used: Alclad, Gunze, Tamiya This particular Marauder - "Barracuda" belonged to 495th Bomb Squadron, 344 Bomb Group. Any comments appreciated Best regards Rune Haugen
  23. EDIT Due to mixing this up with the Douglas B-26 which was the original intended build...but since the kit is half built going to continue it as "what if" Hello all, So this is actually the first Airfix kit I've tried to build. Basically picked it up due to the price in a very good model shop with the intention of building this as a water bomber used for forest fire fighting here in Canada. The majority of these airframes used were operated by a company called Air Spray located in Red Deer, Alberta and were used by both the British Columbia Ministry of Forests and most commonly, the Alberta Forest Service. Last flown operationally in 2006 these planes have been replaced by Air Tractor 802's and/or Electra L-188 tankers. No box shots since I started this about a month ago and well...forgot. Biggest delay on the construction though was colour conversion from the listed Humbrol colours to the Tamiya colours I can source locally with Humbrol 226 - Interior Green being the issue. As I understand it this was the color applied as a zinc chromate protective colour over the metal parts and unfortunately was not always consistently applied in both shade and location with some field expedient options applied. Initial attempts to mix the color as shown: This struck me as too green in color and while looking at various pictures sourced from google the colours inside the under carriage bays appears silver or grey. Luckily it was spring break, the in laws live somewhat close by the main hanger and Air Spray was willing to let me come visit Although only a few of the B-26's are left awaiting pick-up from the purchaser's I was able to figure out it's a yellow/green (zinc chromate) base layer but everything else had been painted aluminum or light grey over top as shown by the little bit of grey color applied above. Photo from within the front under carriage bay. The red is fire fighting retardant which somehow got in there. Most of the recent work was on the cockpit tub which...well it's pretty basic and doesn't really reflect the real thing. I wasn't able to get many good interior shots but the cock pits are pretty crowded with all the avionics/emergency supplies/radios/after market wiring so I took advantage of the fact each plane seems to be unique and came up with this: Sigh...looking at it zoomed in shows all the flaws of a not so steady hand and brush painting. But getting better at this...
  24. do they get any bigger? http://www.americanairmuseum.com/media/5235 Tim
  25. Sorry for the late start but I've been waiting to see if the Sun would "de-yellow" the decals before starting. Thankfully they are now nice and white and ready to go. This will be a (mostly) OOB build. The box & sprues shot... Nice to see engraved panel lines on this one, my Lancaster and B-25 have raised lines. Engine detail is... OK. There are no engines, but I have a cunning plan! I drilled, cut & filed out the fuselage windows. And made some bulkheads so I could add some Liquid Gravity. I popped some extra weight in the front of the nacelles just to be on the safe side. Some Mr Surfacer to seal it all in. There's nothing worse that a rattly aircraft A lick of black paint... And the fuselage and wings are glued and pegged.
