  1. Evening BMs Its been exactly a year ago that I was tasked with producing an AVRO Manchester Bomber Instrument Panel (Full Size) for the RAF Coningsby Heritage Centre. Its been a long build as its totally scratch built using Fusion 360 Software, x2 Creality CRS-10 Pro 3D printers, resin casting from hand made silicon moulds (for this project) along with many hours of research to make sure its as accurate as possible. You can see the full build on this site at the following link - AVRO Manchester The completed Item: Section by section: Boxed: Wall mounted: Already looking at possibly a Mosquito or a Hurricane Panel for the next build. Enjoy
  2. For this group build I will be converting the 1/96 Frog Lancaster to represent the Prototype Manchester L7246 in its initial form with an 80ft wingspan. I have chosen the Eastern Express pressing of the 1959 Frog kit and will be using outer wing panels from the Matchbox B17. Luis Mira has already posted many pictures of his 1/144 version of this subject and I am using his build as guidance for mine (http://www.model34.com/index.php?topic=4060.0) IMG_0635 by arhills, on Flickr IMG_0643 by arhills, on Flickr IMG_0641 by arhills, on Flickr As you can see from the images above the shape of the B17 outer wing is very similar to that of the Mk 1 Manchester. As my wings are more stubbier I thing that'll do. Interistingly exactly where I need to join the wings the chord is pretty close. More amusingly the conversion factor from my 1/72 drawing to 1/96 kit is exactly 0.75 or 3/4. The dimensions for the model I worked out in millimetres but in inches they are ; Wingspan 10", tailspan 3 1/2", and prop diameter 2" !!! IMG_0637 by arhills, on Flickr IMG_0640 by arhills, on Flickr The kit comes with a fairing for a mad-upper turret so judicious use of the Dremel eliminated this particular feature. And I've only just begun !!
  3. Hi, I want to show today still some kind of rarity from my shelves - Avro 679 Manchester. (BTW: I am still surprised that there are apearing new Lancasters but no regular kit of Manchester or York. The same with Wellingtons and Warwick...). I made the scratch conversion of this model in ... 1998. A couple of years from now.... This time it was my the most advanced project on scratch conversion. I hope all will agree that the best available Lancaster in 1998 was that one by Airfix, the 8th series one - so this was chosen by me as the "base". It was a late variant, so beside doing "new" (smaller) stabilizers, additional vertical tail, deeply reshaped wings and Vulture engine I had to make smaller front canopy (moulded and glued from two parts - the flat part is glued in ), lower astro dam and smaller tyres... However - still I like the result, I hope you will enjoy it as well . The machine is L7284 from 207 Sq RAF, winter 1940/41, UK. She served until 1943, I think - but not all time in 207 Sq. Finally she was scraped out. This is the second member of Lancaster family I am posting - the first was York, which I posted in August or September. . Still there are two Lancs to show, waiting on shelf... Please have o look - and I hope enjoy it- any comments welcome Regards Jerzy-Wojtek P.S. In Krakow there was no nice weather today for making photos, neither iside nor outside - it is -1C and fog. - so the photos are in mixed artificial and day lights one is with flash - sorry for this. Some noising appears sometimens. But I did not post any photos for more than week, please excuse me...
  4. I am starting a Manchester, using the remains of the old Revell Lancaster (it was one of my first kits!) and a resin conversion acquired here in BM. My plan is to use only tailplanes, fins & rudders and (improved) engine nacelles. I will probably use the kit wheels as they have the same diameter as the resin ones, and I will certainly modify the plastic wings as I think I can do a better job than the resin wings. So I must grab some props and spinners, absent in the conversion (any suggestion?) and scratch built other details, like turrets. My model will depict a Mk.I, with the triple fin & rudder, and after having a look in Richard Frank's SAM Datafile I noticed that "first 10 airframes [of the initial production of 20] had flat bomb doors as per the prototype". This means the other had bulged bomb doors like the Lancaster? As the photos in the book are small, I'm not sure if they depict "flat" or "bulged" bomb bay doors. In any case, I don't think any of them depicts doors like the ones of the Lanc. Anyone has detailed info on the subject? Some photos or drawings that shows clearly the differences between the 2 models of bomb bay doors of the Manchester and the ones of the Lancaster? By the way, is the bomb bay the same length on the Manchester and Lancaster? I am assuming that the trailing edge of the wing begins to taper at the beginning of the outer panel, NOT at the back of the engine nacelle, as in the resin conversion. Is that correct? The centre section is the same on both aircraft, or are there any differences? Too many questions? Sorry... Here's one more: someone has a better (bigger) copy of the former and rib positions drawing (in page 103 of SAM's datafile)? And, if it isn't asking too much, a stations diagram? Thanks for any help! Carlos
