  1. Hello all from the shed. Its been a while but at last I’ve finished this one, I fancied making another big one. The Roden kit requires patience, lots of dry fitting and a little filler. Mainly round the engines which were the worst fitting parts. The rest went together quite well after cleaning up. I used the An-12 etch set from Extratech which provided all the cockpit seating, which when bent to shape were superb. Alas I didn’t take a photo of them so you will have to buy the set and assemble them to see how good they are. Roden decals are difficult in that they don’t settle down very well so I used the An-12 sheet from Authentic decals and stars from Begemot. The Authentic decals silvered and in truth were not much better than the Roden decals. The model is painted with Extracolor paints and weathered with Tamiya powders and Flory washes. The aircraft depicted is an An-12 BK based at Levashovo AB in 2001. (chosen because I liked the owl). So here it is, hope you like it. Fuselage round windows were done using Crystal Clear. A few with a bit of servicing going on. Ground power, fuel and air/oxy. Possible load? Thanks for stopping by. Pete
  2. Braniff International Airways was an American airline founded in 1928. Braniffs were in operation until 1982 and their home fields were Dallas Love Field airport and Dallas international airport in Texas. During their operations, the company flew to destinations in North and South America, and in the late 1970s also to Asia and Europe. Perhaps the most famous feature of the airline in was that the planes in their fleet were painted in various eye catching colours. The aircraft carried such colours as beige, ochre, orange, turquoise, baby blue, medium blue, lemon yellow, In total, fifteen different liveries were used during the 1960’s . From 1978 onwards Braniff's aircraft received a new "Ultra color" scheme that called for a quiet, elegant and more sophisticated look. My model depicts the Boeing 727-100 in Braniff's red "Flying Colors" scheme. The model was built from a very detailed Authentic Airlines' 1/144 scale resin kit with F-DCAL markings and AA's cabin and cockpit decals. The red color is from Tamiya's TS-8 rattle can and the ochre underside from Revell's enamel number 88. The thin white demarcation line between the red and ochre areas was made by using a Fantasy Printshop 0,5 mm white stripe decal. Building the kit was in itself straightforward and without any problems. The most time consuming part was the masking and painting of the different coloured areas. As to the metal parts I airbrushed them with Vallejo's acrylics and AMMO's A.MIG-2300 aluminium paint. Since the ochre paint is matt, I coated it with Humbrol's clear gloss varnish.
  3. In the 1970’s and 80’s, the Spanish flag carrier Iberia had a fleet of some fifty DC-9 aircraft. As a 14-year-old plane spotter in 1969, I snapped a picture of the company’s DC-9-32 during a visit with my dad to the Copenhagen Kastrup Airport. The plane was registered EC-BIS and christened "Ciudad de Alicante". In a sudden nostalgic plane spotter mood I decided to build a model of that very plane. I ordered a 1/144 scale Fly Models kit, which was pretty simple but in my opinion all the essential details were there. The model went easily together although some sanding and putty was needed. For the old Iberia livery I ordered a high-quality sheet from the BOA, which contained the registrations and names for 24 different Iberian DC-9’s including the EC-BIS. I also used Authentic Airliners Decals decals for the cockpit and cabin windows. The dark gray cabin windows were printed in the cheat line of the BOA decal but since I wanted a more authentic look and decided to attach the AD decals on top of them. The windows were exactly of the same size but the distance between them was just slightly different so I had to cut out each window from the AD sheet and stick the 70 windows in place one by one. An entire day was spent in that job! I painted the white areas of the plane with Tamiya Fine surface primer, which I coated with Tamiya gloss varnish spray TS 13. I used Alclad's white aluminum on the wings, stabilizers and the lower part of the fuselage. The edges of the wings and stabilizers were sprayed with Alclad's polished aluminum. I also used Humbrol and Vallejo colors for the smaller details. I also scratched several details into the machine, e.g. pitot tubes, beacon lights, antennas, etc. In the summer of 1969 I made a round trip of the Scandinavian capitals with my dad. In Copenhagen I insisted that we visit the kerosene smelling Kastrup airport instead of seeing the Little mermaid statue or the Tivoli theme park. Well, my dad wasn't at all amused but after all we did go to the nice and busy airport where I could snap a picture of the Iberia DC-9-32 🙂
  4. The maiden flight of the narrow-body Boeing 757 took place in 1982 and the plan of Boeing was to introduce a replacement to the already ageing Boeing 727. The production of the 757 ended in 2004 and a total of 1,050 aircraft were manufactured during those years. The most common sub-type was the 757-200 which could accommodate a maximum of 235 passengers. Air Finland was a charter airline founded in 2002. During their ten years of operation the company operated five Boeing 757-200’s to fly Finnish holiday makers to the southern sun. Air Finland's operations went belly up in June 2012, mainly due to higher fuel prices and market overcapacity. Boeing 757’s were also used by Finnair and the largest users of the 757 were Delta, United and American Airlines. I ordered the Nazca Decals sheet for Air Finland's earlier livery Boeing 757. There’s a Minicraft 757 kit but it’s got so negative comments in model reviews that it wasn’t an option. I chose instead the Russian manufacturer PAS-model’s 1/144 scale resin kit, which had the Rolls Royce engines used in Air Finland's 757’fleet. The kit was mostly ok, although there was quite a lot of flash to be cleaned up. Some sanding and putty was needed but as a whole assembling the model was relatively easy. I also scratched a lot of details into the model, e.g. air beacon lights,, pitot tubes, antennas, etc. The cockpit and cabin windows are from Authentic Airliner decals and the corogards from Flying Colors. I painted the body of the model with white Tamiya Fine surface primer, which I then sealed with Tamiya’s gloss varnish spray, TS-13. The gray areas of the wings I painted with Xtracolor X150 ,Canadian Voodoo grey and the blue areas of the engines by mixing Vallejo medium blue and Andrea blue. I also used other Humbrol and Vallejo paints for smaller details.
  5. I built a model of the Finnair DC-10-30 a couple of years ago. The plane has always had a special place in my heart. Many times in the 1980's I flew with the DC-10's to Spain and to the USA . In my opinion it's the meanest and beefiest looking airliner the Finnish flag carrier have operated during their long history. Finnair were also the first airline that started direct flights from Western Europe to Japan via the North Pole. These planes were equipped with additional fuel tanks i.e. DC-10-30 ER (Extended Range) The maiden flight of the DC-10 took place in October,1970 and the manufacture of the plane type ended in 1988. A total of 446 these three-holers were built and some 40 airlines used the plane. The last scheduled flights were flown with it by Bangladesh Biman in 2014. I built the 1/144 scale DC-10-30 model from an excellent Authentic Airliners resin kit. There were no problems in building the model and only a bit of file and putty was needed. Out of the five Finnair's DC-10's I chose the one registered OH-LHB. The decals I used were from F-DCAL. Additionally, I ordered decals for the cockpit and cabin windows from Authentic Airlines. The coroguards, stencils and engine details are from Nazca decals and the turbine hub spirals from Skyline decals. I painted the white fuselage with Tamiya Fine Surface primer coated with Tamiya gloss varnish spray. The multiple shade metal areas were painted with AK Xtreme aluminium and Vallejo metal paints.
  6. Revell Rafale C 1/48 Normandie Niemen 2012 Authentic Decals Wolfpack-D cockpit BAM models intakes L'Arsenal Damocles targeting pod Hasegawa GBU-24 WIP in the faboulous French Fancy II GB: I did not use the big Ed in the end....will do so on the next! 🇫🇷Fancy II Gallery here: togehter with the 2009 tribute Mirage F1: (thanks @GiampieroSilvestri ) and there with a Lybian Raider Rafale from some time ago: hope you like it! salut, Werner
  7. I already mentioned before somewhere in the GB that a Rafale C is missing in the line-up..... I just could not find the decals I wanted to use, so started the Mirage 2000 propotype first so here she finally is, decals included! as far as i know those are the only ones of a French camouflaged Rafale sofar. Hope that quality will not let me down! not sure if I will use all this, especially the PE is not set yet. sprues are here, all of them and some more from an earlier B model I like this scheme as mentioned before because it has a camo Rafale... I think AdA would do good in haveing some in camo.... at least 2 tone as on the Mirage 2000.... The real deal: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/61/Air-to-air_with_French_Air_Force_Dassault_Rafale_and_Mirage_F1.jpg some more enhancements: stay tuned!
  8. Airbus A300 was the first twin-engine wide-body airliner manufactured by the European consortium Airbus Industrie. The plane had its maiden flight in October 1972 and since then a total of 552 units were built. Finnair leased two Airbus A300B4's during 1986-98 and for some time they flew chartered flights to Southern European holiday resorts in the livery of Kar-Air (who were at the time a subsidiary of Finnair). I had always wanted to build an A300B4 in the livery of Kar-Air which IMHO looked much more elegant than the Finnair scheme. Since in the aftermarket there were no decals available for that livery I asked my friend Laurent Herjean of F-RSIN if he could print me the decals. Well, he answered yes and now, in addition to me, there are a dozen of other Finnish modellers who have ordered those decals from him. The kit is from Authentic Airliners in 1/144 scale. It's excellent as usual with perfect details and very good fit and there were no problems in building the model. In addition to the livery decals I ordered the cockpit and cabin decals from Authentic Airliners. I found out one curious thing concerning the cabin widows namely that the window row between the last two rear doors rises slightly upwards. This really beats me but the pictures and the cabin decals confirm this fact. Could somebody tell me the reason for this strange solution. I painted the white fuselage with Tamiya Fine surface primer which I then coated with Tamiya gloss varnish spray TS-13. The wings and stabs were painted with Xtracolor X137 Canadian Voodoo grey and the coroguard with Xtracolor X5 (RAF extra dark sea grey). The metal surface of the engines was painted with Alclad Polished Aluminium.
  9. In my opinion the Boeing 737-100 in Lufthansa’s livery looks very elegant. Way back in the 60’s their baby 737 was a common sight at the Helsinki airport. I built the model from an Authentic Airliners resin kit. The decals are from a 26Decals sheet. For ages we've seen the same familiar rudder scheme on Lufthansa's fleet. The cheatline has disappeared but the Lufthansa "meatball" has still stayed on. Now the company have renewed their traditional livery. IMHO its a pity!
  10. Another Fulcrum from Great Wall Hobby. I try my hand on camo pixel. It prove to be easier than I thought at first. Each section of camo was just taylored to the place it is intended to go. Some of the bigger ones were in two parts, except the Ukrainian Tryzub which is one piece to help laying it I cut both "wings". They are strong enough to stand a few moving - Had to change my usual photo spot owing to lock down, this one is not as good as my usual spot but I can accept it ..

  13. Built in 2013, after the Stuka here´s another German aircraft in Bulgarian use. It is the GWH kit with Authentic decals, painted once again with Gunze and Tamiya acrylics. The model shows an a/c that flew with the Bulgarian 331 Air Squadron in July 1944. Older pics, done with my previous Nikon P50.
  14. Hello, here's my 1/72 Hasegawa Junkers Ju-88 G6 "Nachtjäger" of 6./NJG2, Fritzlar 1945. I used Eduard photo-etch, True Details resin wheels, Schatton antennas and markings from Authentic Decals. Painted with acrylics from the Gunze/Mr.Hobby range. The Hasegawa kit has some fit issues, which is strange for a modern HQ tooling. The fuselage halves need some filling and blending, the nose cap is over-sized, the wing tips and the belly insert with the guns don't fit very well either. The antennas are metal pieces from Schatton (http://www.modellbau-schatton.privat.t-online.de/). They are much finer than the kit's plastic parts. Since the antlers are a major focus point on this model I think they are well worth the investment! The colour scheme is mostly guesswork, as I've found only one conclusive period photograph online; this shows only a part of the fuselage section broken up at Fritzlar airport, Germany, May 1945. The markings come from Authentic decals, they aren't the best I've ever worked with. They break easily, have a yellow-ish carrier film and are slightly misprinted with 'shadow lines'. Luckily, this doesn't show after a couple of gloss and matt cotes. The camoflage was painted using Uhu Tac sausages: Exhaust fumes painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby "Smoke" with drops of Black and Dark Brown added: Delicate work on the undercarriage, adding brake lines and scissor links: "Schräge Musik" ("Jazz Music") guns on the fuselage spine: All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel, IGM Cars & Bikes. Thanks for your interest. Greetings from Vienna!
