For my next project, a change of pace from 1:35 scale light tanks - Vespids 1/72 Australian Centurion in Vietnam War markings. It’s a relatively small box, but stuffed with plastic. Last but not least, the turret, hull “tub”, a rather nice digitally printed mantle, aluminium gun barrel, etch and a small, but colourful decal sheet. The paint scheme is the same for all of them - lustreless olive drab - just different markings. Not sure which one I will make. I found this useful resource on the web: https://mikesresearch.com/2023/02/26/centurion-tanks-in-vietnam/ It’s clear there were some differences between the early arrivals in Vietnam in 1968 and the same tanks after a couple of years “in-country”. It looks like the kit does provide for the main differences. I’m likely to make a later one - so that will involve stowing the searchlight and leaving off smoke grenade launchers at the very least. To help me with my build I also found this useful log of the AFV Club 1:35 version.

G'day mates! The M3 Lee tank; ain't she a beauty? Those graceful flowin' lines, the silky smooth surface, like a blonde surfer's thighs! An' she's an Aussie too. So I reckon to be true blue I'm gonna hefta write this in strine. Bein a bit of a bludger, that's goin' to be hard yakka for me, so I might bail on that later, but no wukkas, I'll keep goin' 'til I'm stuffed. Kinoath, I'm already stuffed! This is what I'm starting with. There's 680g of plastic in there and all in the one baggie! No drama though, nothing's carked it on any of the 43 sprues (not including 20 more track sprues). Beaut packing! There's metal as well as plastic and allowing for the PE production techniques, I reckon that's handsome. Cast texture is a good start but I'll be roughing it up a bit. Here's the bad news. Cleaning up the parting lines and misallignment on the is gonna be like paddling up the creek without a paddle, spearing tadpoles with a crow bar. And that's because... ...there's a shedload of small bits, tiny bits and invisible bits. So I've got three months to turn this... ...into that. Piece of wee-wee, I hear you say. Well, it would be if I followed the instructions.

First completion for 2022! Picked this up just before the Christmas vacation. Ideal as a quick project. Completed out of the box as a tank of the Australian 1st Armoured Division based at Puckapunyal Camp in central Victoria, Australia in 1942. Brush painted with Tamiya Acrylics and finished with a variety of Army Painter washes and diluted Italeri Acryl Dark Earth to obtain a nice dusty appearance. Build thread can be found here. For those that are interested, Puckapunyal Camp is still an active Australian military installation: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puckapunyal Thanks for looking.

I picked this up on impulse week before last. It’s a very new tool (this year). Brush painted with Tamiya acrylics, and an attempt at making a dusty used look with a variety of acrylic washes. Completed out of the box as a vehicle of 5th/7th Royal Australian Regiment in Iraq with AMTG-2 (Al Muhanna Task Group) in 2005-2006. Build thread can be found here: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235099408-australian-bushmaster-protected-mobility-vehicle-dragon-172 Thanks for looking.

I was intending to start a different kit, but saw a pile of these appear in my local hobby shop and just had to have one. It looks like a straightforward build (hope that’s not deceptive). The paint job on the other hand is going to be interesting. I’m going to finish it straight out of the box as a vehicle used in Iraq in 2005/6.
