  1. I've always been rather slow; when I started learning to swim it was 25 yards to get a certificate, by the time I'd got that far the goal posts (mixed metaphor alert) had moved out to 25 metres, which was a huge leap for a wee lad. By way of reward, my dad brought me the Airfix Hostpur. So, it's nostalgia time to revisit that kit. Given how much they go for on a certain website I feel that a tenner made this a bargain. However to make it more exciting, Im adding in the Atlantic Models P/E set with more detail than I can shake a stick at, let alone see. Talking of seeing lets have some piccies The boxes Yes, I know the Atlantic models 'box isn't too exciting, but see what you get... The P/E renders a lot of the Airfix parts redundant. That though will have to be balance with just how much of it I can handle. for sure It'll be the most P/E I've ever used in one model. Onto the instructions... There are literally pages of Peter's instructions and notes for the P/E so any mistakes will be all my own work. In the chat, I've mentioned the prospect of a container ship, needless to say some sprue fondling has taken place, but it's a whole different scale of operation! Here's the Columbo Express hull and P/E alongside Hotspur's hull And that's at 1/700 as opposed to Hotspur's 1/600; somehow I think we're all know it's going to happen, but one P/E set at a time eh?
  2. I have made a small start on this one no I have not given up on HMS York this build will be my Thursday night build York has to much stuff to be carrying back and forth to the model club meet every Thursday night so this will be my smaller carry about project and YES we actually build models at our club meets in the art centre workshops. So after a couple of hours with friends building and chatting about our plastic projects I got this far. Next week I will be replacing the barrels on the 6 inch guns with brass rod drilling out the portholes and replacing the main deck bollards as they look over scale to me and prep work on the funnel to start attaching the PE grills. So the kit the very old NOVO Royal Sovereign 1/500 scale 6 years older than me this kit 1960 donated to me by one of the very kind club members a true gentlemen is our Eddie he also gave me the Battle class I built a couple of years ago. Why HMS Resolution because it was built at the Palmers Yard in Jarrow on the river Tyne same place as HMS York. The Photo Etch upgrade more instructions for this than the kit just the one page And some of my reference material RA Burt not a lot in the box left Stay Safe beefy
  3. Well calling this one done a very old kit from the sixties it is older than me but with the addition of Atlantic models excellent PE and a few scratch built small bits it has given the old girl a new lease of life. The kit is boxed as Royal Sovereign but Peter Halls PE allows you to build as any of the class for reference I used the RA Burt books of Battleships from 1900 to 1945 I went for Resolution because it was built on the River Tyne at the Palmers yard in Jarrow one of my goals is the build as many Tyne built ships as I can. All paints used are colourcoats a light oil wash for some weathering I was aiming for the ship in her 1939 configuration at the outbreak of WW2 may not be 100% but near enough for me. 4. Well calling this done my take on the old kit from FROG / NOVO 1/ 325 scale with the addition of Atlantic Models PE and replacement forward guns and torpedo tubes from Shapeways. this is not completely accurate I know there are mistakes the torpedo tubes should be the quadruple launchers and the main range finder is wrong may replace that later but when you think of the age of the original kit the PE and guns do raise the detail levels to a more acceptable level and I have another kit to try and make a better attempt in the future I hope. So here she is my version of HMS Trafalgar and link to WIP. And here is a Plug for Name It thanks for putting me onto these @robgizlu Great service and so much better than the kit one. Beefy
