  1. I'm going to have to take my time working out the painting process on the DHC-6, so rather than sitting watching paint dry I'll have some fun with this..... My Airfix book puts it at 1958, and indeed the kit content is appropriately simple. I guess it was originally a Series 1 kit in a poly bag. I picked up some prop-liner books some time ago on a recommendation, to help and inspire with a few civil builds. One is the Osprey publication "Caribbean Props", and it features a nice set of pictures of a Grumman flying-boat in action.... Well, it turns out that the plane pictured is in fact a Grumman Mallard, clearly a bigger and later (post war?...) development of the Gosling. But it gives me some idea of what could be done with the little kit. The Gosling has smaller engines, inverted in-line pretty much in the style of a DH Gipsy engine. While the US Coast Guard scheme is good looking and close enough to a civil option for me, I was pondering the possibility of using the decals left over from the DHC-6 Twin Otter - the Canadian West Coast Air decor - as a what-if..... 🤔 Anyway, got to build it first.
  2. I think I should throw my hat into the ring here, and stop prevaricating. At least put a marker down, a statement of intent. I quite fancy having a go at this, I've been doing a bit of research on the type and the era, and it's thrown up some interesting information already. Airfix states 1904 on the box, but I'm reading up on the 1903 Gordon Bennett race, and I've seen it referred to as the 1902 production. I got 2 cars for £12 and the other one is a PYRO kit, remember them?? Any way the box contents are just as you'd remember them.... Should be an interesting diversion 😎
  3. Greetings! Recently completed build of the vintage Airfix Dornier 217J-1 night fighter from the 1978 kit. I purchased this kit from the Ahmad Jamal toy store in Riyadh in 1984 during my Saudi expat years, I think I paid 8 Riyals. Plenty of raised surface details and poorly fitting parts! Very much out of the box build with just a few small enhancements. 40 year old decals had to be drenched in direct sunlight, but went down very well. While not up to the current standards, I like the challenge of these old kits. Many thanks for having a look, questions and comments always welcome. Cheers, Bill
