  1. Hello everyone! Here is my latest kit. It's Amodel's 1:144 Beriev Be-12 Tchaika "Mail". It represents "Yellow 55" of the Ukrainian Naval Aviation in the 1990s. Following the break-up of the USSR, Ukraine had 12 ASW Be-12s plus a SAR variant. In 2001, the survivors were all grounded and at least six were refurbished and returned to service in 2004. This short-run kit with etched parts was not easy but the end result was very satisfying. The instructions were not clear in places and had several errors. Checking with photos of the real thing was a must. I built it OOB and only added the wing probes, the radio wires and some intakes from stretched sprue. It was fully painted and varnished with brush Thanks for looking and all comments are welcome. Miguel
  2. With a bit of space created on the bench by finishing the YS-11 and moving the Chipmunk into the garage for painting, it's time to start build no. 2. This will be the Amodel 1/144 Buffalo. Obligatory sprue box and shot: I've also got an FCM decal sheet with markings for Ecuadorian, Brazilian and Canadian examples. I think this is going to be Canadian, in camouflage, using the FCM decals. I'll make a start tomorrow cheers Julian
  3. Here's my Amodel 1/144 Caravelle 10R with Transeuropa decals from 26. The kit's ok but there were a couple of things I didn't like - the undercarriage was a bit of a faff with quite indistinct and imprecise fit, and one of the PE wing fences just didn't want to stay on the wing! The 26 decals were nice as always. It does have cockpit window decals - there just isn't much contrast between them and the blue surrounding them! thanks for looking Julian
  4. As my other three current builds all either have milliput or primer drying, it's time to start another French build, and there seems to be a Caravelle-shaped gap in the GB so I'll try to fill it. This is the Amodel 1/144 Caravelle 10R, which I'm going to build in Transeuropa colours using 26 decals. Here's the plastic: There's also a small PE fret with the wing fences. There are apparently a couple of shape issues, but it looks like a Caravelle and it's quite crisply moulded. I've made a start by assembling the fuselage. Didn't bother with the cockpit as I'll be using decals for the windows. The instructions say nothing about ballast in the nose, so I've added about 20g in the form of Australian 5 cent coins. Here's the very little progress so far: more soon Julian
  5. My next build will be an Ilyushin Il-14 in 1/144, using the AModel kit. It'll be in Hang Khong Viet Nam (Vietnam Airlines) markings, using custom printed decals, apparently in the markings of Ho Chi Minh's personal aircraft. The only references I've found for it are photos of aircraft on display in Hanoi - where there seem to be two different Il-14s both claiming to be the same one and in different colour schemes. Based on photos of other aircraft of the same airline they both seem to be genuine colour schemes, so I'll be working from one of these two. Here's what you get in the box: And here's the one I'm building: I've started, but only got as far as cutting out and cleaning up the fuselage halves. They're quite nicely moulded - not very much flash, unlike some of the AModel kits I've built - but the cabin windows look like more trouble than they're worth so I might just use Kristal Klear. The instructions say it needs a weight in the nose, but not how much, so I might just pack as much liquid gravity in as I can. more tomorrow Julian
