  1. Hi, all you Britmodellers, I've finished this after losing most of the bits at least once! The build thread is HERE for an odyssey in Alclad! I had a lot of help and encouragement on this - big thanks especially to Andy (general melchett) for providing the Jay Miller reference book, amongst other top tips and encouragement. Thanks for looking once again! Alan
  2. Hi guys, I am rather new to using Alclad II and have read different - sometimes contrary - statements. Hope you can help me a bit. I am working on my Special Hobby Vampire FB52 which I will build as a Swiss Mk.6 and want to use Alclad II for the High Speed Silver. First, which Alclad II color would you use for achieving this color - High Speed Silver? Is thinner required for Alclad II or can I shot is straight? I heard that this should work. I often hear that using a black primer is the thing to go for when using Alclad. How can preshading be done when using a black primer? Is a primer really required? Wouldn't Alclad II directly on the plastic work as well? Questions over questions... sorry guys.... Cheers, Michael
  3. already announced in the GB chat and already great input over there!! - thanks decided on this one : P-51D Mustang AIR14 PAYERNE 2014 100 Years of Swiss air force celebrations Tamiya 1/48 Syhart Decals D-FPSI was marked as Swis Airforce J-901 and flew together with an F-18C Hornet and an M.S. 406 that is the plane : http://www.warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39806 seems that I need to do something about the prop, ad it fly with uncuffed Hamilton Standards.... the kit only has cuffed and Aero versions included I started work no glue yet, but fit in very good! great kit! any idea of cockpit colour on this one? flat black? or a more original zinc green? thanks for comments and tips, I am a total Mustang newbe
  4. Cleaners, Paints and Powders Alclad II Alclad have been around for a while now and they continue to improve and build their product range. Here we look at a new cleaner, paint, wash and weathering powder. The new airbrush cleaner is designed to be used after using other Alclad II products. If it’s anything like other Alclad II products you will need to keep your mask on when using this. As to what’s actually in it there is no information on their website, on anywhere else for that matter, but I imagine there’ll be some Xylene and acetone, much like other cleaner of its type. It does state on the label that it is not to be used as a thinners. The new paint range, Mil-Spec, has been made to be used straight from the bottle with no thinners required. Whilst I only have the matte black, it does spray very nicely and does indeed go a very satisfying matt finish. Another new range is the Warpigs Hogwash. Once again to be used straight from the bottle using a brush. The wash is then left for a bit before the excess is cleaned off with a cotton bud. According to the bottle it stays malleable for 36 hours. The dirt and grime we have here looks pretty good, but I haven’t had a chance to use it yet, but have to models on the bench that could do with dirtying up. The new weathering powders are also in the Warpigs range and we have been sent the Dust powder. The dust is contained in a re-sealable 20ml plastic pot, and is very fine indeed, so be careful when opening. Just dab a small amount onto a brush or pad the ever shake to brush onto the model. Seal using you preferred varnish. Conclusion Four very useful products that give some idea to what the rest of the new ranges are like. Just ensure you use a good facemask when using the cleaner and paint. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  5. I've recently tried my first chrome paint - Alclad II chrome - and am happily surprised by the results even for a noob airbrush user. I was so impressed that I plan to buy more metallic paints (aluminium, etc). However I've just seen that AK Interactive also do Extreme Metal metallic finishes, and they claim "easy cleanup of airbrush", and no need to prime. Anyone have any experience of the AK paints? Does easy cleanup mean they are acrylic or just that the metal particles are small and don't clog the airbrush? Cheers, Kev.
  6. Hi all, I am hoping to do my first paint job with Alclad II soon, looking at the demo videos on their website they recommend you use a single action airbrush to spray their product. Although they say that they don't really say why it's better than using a dual action. Can anyone tell me if they have used a dual action airbrush and if they hit any problems using it spraying Alclad II? Also if it really is necessary to get one can anyone recommend a good single action airbrush? I'm in the UK by the way for anybody recommending a particular place/site Thanks in advance, Pete p.s. I didn't look first to see if this subject has been covered before, apologies if it has.
  7. Righto, seen so many on here wax lyrical about the stuff it's time I got on board. However, I am not made of money so want to start on a smallish scale. What colours would you say are essential to get me started? I will be mainly using them on exhausts both jet and combustion (priority in current project) but also metal bits such as undercarriage, antennae etc and sponging paint chips. I have a BMF project way down the line but can cross that bridge when I come to it. Also, to save replacing current materials, I take it I can prime with Halfords or Mr Surfacer and apply Vallejo Satin and Matt glosses as well as Klear over the top. I also use all acrylic paint - I think I read somewhere that as long as you don't douse it you can overspray acrylics ok. Smells nice too apparently but guess a mask is in order? Any other tips gratefully received Thanks in advance
