  1. Hello all; Here’s my recently completed Lancaster, the RAAF’s 460 Squadron G-George. The WIP thread is from the current GB and is here; I must say I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would and a lot of my preconceived ideas and prejudices about older tooling kits were knocked down. Here’s a few pics of how he turned out, there’s more about the build as well as George itself on my site. Cheers.
  2. Heres my current wip the spitfire from the battle of Britain set in 1/72. This one I've done with a few new techniques including pre shading and using the good old blutac snake for the airbrush.
  3. I'm sure this has been asked before (by me possibly), but what would I need to do to convert a Mk.I to a Mk.II or III? I was given the Airfile book on the Swordfish http://www.guidelinepublications.co.uk/index.php?GOTO=386&PICFILE=386&STKNR=386&STRH=&ORDN=&RNZ=927842 it's got some great profiles in it some of which are Mk.II's and Mk.III's. I've got the Airfix Mk.I and the Pavla Mk.III ASV conversion so that covers some of the details but, what were the obvious external differences between a I and a II? There's the deeper oil cooler on the starboard side and I'm aware of the metal skinning of the lower wing underside, how far did the skinning go? The Airfile book shows shows only localised skinning, is this the case? If so, I could probably get away with some 5 or 10 thou card, if it's a more extensive re-skinning does anyone have any advice on how to go about it (removal of ribs and then re-skinning)? Can anyone point me to some plans? Lastly, I know the Mk.III's have the cowl over the Observer's cockpit, this is included in the Pavla conversion - any other gotcha's I should know about? Happy New Year to you all. Regards Wez
  4. I don't build many maritime models but the Airfix Vosper has all ways been a favourite of mine. It's basically a very fine model considering how old it is, but there were a few details that could be refined. I modified the kit's details as follows; I added the grab rail on the front of the bridge, and I replaced the thick transparency for the bridge with acetate. I also replaced the main gun's barrels with cut down hypodermic needles and I added an etched ring site to the gun as well. I replaced the .5 Brownings with more detailed ones and I carved off the molded on boat hooks with ones made from wire. I used fine fishing line for the rigging and she was painted with Humbrol enamels. Thanks for looking.
  5. I have finished her. Thank you for looking.
  6. Thanks to my wonderful wife, I have a new modelling project! I have ordered some after market goodies to go with her (The model, not my wife!) but in the mean time I have started work. I have started to scribe the panel lines; Tools of the trade are a steel ruler, a set of etched templates, an Olfa P cutter, and a compass needle mounted in a pin vice. I prefer the compass needle over the P cutter as it digs finer trenches and I can control it better. So far I have done the top and bottom halves of the fuselage. The top half has been engraved and polished, the bottom half still needs to be polished. To try and save some pennies on the after market goodies, thus keeping the little lady sweet, I have taken on the kit's intakes to make them seemless and save on resin ones. Once cemented together with copious amounts of Revell's Contacta cement, they were firmly clamped and left for 24 hours. I then mixed Humbrol's model filler with their liquid poly and brushed it all over the joints. Once set for another 24 hours, I sanded away with various grades of wet and dry untill it was all seemless. A couple of cotes of Tamiya's fine white primer, and...... Once the primer has dried thoroughly, yet another 24 hours, I will use fine wet and dry to achieve a smooth finish. I had already gathered some reference material, here's a small selection; And, I had a set of decals ready and waiting. I will paint her as one of these two, not decided yet. While studying the plans that came with the Warpaint book, I made a fatal error, I placed the parts against the drawings! Would any expert on the Vulcan like to pass comment please? Thanks for looking!
