  1. Good evening My second entry in this Gb is the Airfix Spit Mk1 flown by S/L Adolph Malan during the Battle of Britain Malan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolph_Malan I replaced the instrument panel and the seat by a Quickboost one Today I placed the seat and instrument panel on the right half fuselage Patrice
  2. Evening all... Here's my contribution to 92sqn strength. Airfix's F.2A is a fantastic kit, and builds up into a nice looking Lightning. A very enjoyable build overall- though I nearly came unstuck with some of the decals on the nose.... I'd actually like to try another of these, but I'm trying to clear the decks so I can start my Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Vb.. (yesss !) Thanks for looking, c&c always welcome. Cheers, Dave
  3. Here is may rendition of Airfix's 1/72 Lightning F6. Nearly out-the-box. I replaced the nose wheel/leg and main wheels with the Baracuda set. The redtops are the Sword versions with the airfix clear nose added. Decals are a mix of Airfix, modeldecal and Xtradecal. As you can tell from the photos, the wing tanks are not fixed in place yet. So thats the F1 and F6 done, just need to fill the gap with the 2/2a/3/4/5................ Tim
  4. Good afternoon Here is my partcipation to this Gb Airfix P40B/C that I started this We I will represent the aircraft in which 2nd Lieutenant Kenneth Taylor http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_M._Taylor scored at least 2 victories against japaness aircraft during the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor , I will use this decal sheet https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/AMLC9003 I wil replace the Airfix seat by a Pavla one (seen here with instrument panel ) I will also replace the exhausts by Quickboost products I started by painting the cockpit url=http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=512324001.jpg][/url] . Patrice
  5. Hi Folks and a Happy New Year. Here is my last completed model of 2014, finished off on Hogmanay. This is the Airfix 1/72 EE Lightning F6 kit built for the Lightning Group Build here on BM. Built OOB but using Model Alliance decals to portray XS931 of 11 Sqn in 1968 while resident at RAF Leuchars. Photos show this aircraft to have been very highly polished as it appeared to have been the aircraft sent around the Airshow circuit at one point so that is how I tried to depict it. Unfortunately the kit didn't come supplied with the clear sprue so I had to use a flawed canopy discarded from one of my F2A kits (I'll get round to getting a replacement sometime) but I was able to find a photo of this exact aircraft wearing a full set of covers so made a cover to match. The Armourers haven't arrived yet (last on the Line as usual) so no missiles fitted, I couldn't make my mind up if the Airfix supplied Redtops were accurate or not (they look too skinny to me). And here is one with it's cousin from 74 Sqn There are some more photos in the GB Gallery along with the WIP in the GB, I hope you like her. Duncan B
  6. I built this for a friend, his uncle was a member of the crew of DS813 JI-N and sadly died when this aircraft was lost over France on the 29-07-1944 returning from a bombing mission over Germany. I just hope he will be happy with it when I give it to him. Willy.
  7. Good afternoon The Mustant being one of my favourite aircraft I would like to enter this Gb with the Aifix model which is already well known .. I will represent the aircraft flown by Robert Stephen a 13 victory ace of the famous 354 Fighter Group http://www.baseballinwartime.com/player_biographies/stephens_robert.html .. I will use Super scale Decals and a Quickboost resin seat ... I started this We by painting the cockpit and some other parts landing gear etc ..will pics will follow .. Patrice
  8. Hi all, Built this one several years ago as a per the box but never was satisfied with the finish. Anyway washed it and dowsed it in Halfords Appliance White then added spare decals from Lightning kits. Pleased I never binned it now! Brian..
  9. Hi all, Airfix 1/72 AWACS based at RAF Waddington. Built it straight from the box and painted with enamels, also added a "Diecast" F-16 for scale purpose. Also a bit messing about in Picassa.
  10. Manufacturer - Airfix Scale - 1/72 Paints - Tamiya XF-66 light grey Tamiya XF-53 neutral grey Tamiya XF-24 dark grey Tamiya X-2 white Tamiya X-19 smoke Vallejo pale green Model Master metalizer - gun metal burnt metal steel Varnishes - Johnsons Klear for decal prep and sealing Humbrol acrylic matt aerosol for finish Aftermarket - none Really happy with this one as i took my time more than i usually do. I'm assuming it's an old kit as it was quite flashy in places and the fit was not good on certain parts but all being said and done i think it looks the part. The engines were a bit of a fiddle to get in, one of the vertical stabilisers leans more outwards than the other but it's the best i could get it and also i had to cut the nose wheel guard in two and glue them onto the tyres otherwise they squashed the two wheels at the back which made them splay outwards at the front. I went for the polish option on this kit as the czech scheme looked a tad too much for me to tackle i think. On with the pics. Comments and sugesstions will be very much appreciated. Thanks for looking.
  11. Hi folks, just popped into LMS for paint and as I have done in the past decided to go straight to the shelf and pick a kit without deciding beforehand or giving any thought to what I want so this was the kit! I think I must have built this years ago when it first came out,What a nice surprise it turned out to be,not earth shattering detail but a nice simple build out of the box, little filler here and there soft framing on the glazing and tricky under carriage(for me) but all done in an hour a day over six days.
  12. Now let's start with some alternative history, in a parallel universe, far, far away... America’s isolationist policies during WW2 resulted in defeat for Britain and the Allied forces. Without the influx of arms Russia was unable to respond to the Nazi invasion, capitulating in the west in late 1943. The Soviet state retracted to the east leaving vast tracts of land to be enveloped by the Reich. Russia remained a thorn in the German side, distracting many of the Reich’s forces and prolonging the war in the west. Britain was too weak to seriously dent the German fortress. Limited aid from Commonwealth and Empire forces had led to German and Italian victory in North Africa in 1945. China sued for peace with Japan in 1946 following Japanese gains in the far-east at the expense of British, French, Dutch and Belgian interests. The Indian, Australian, New Zealand and even Canadian forces were unable to bail out the Empire, resulting in its dissolution in 1953, when Britain finally ceded to the vastly superior German forces. A different establishment of the European Union was brought about with the German Mark becoming the single currency from Ireland and Iceland to Tunisia and Turkey, up through Crimea to Moscow and the Baltic states. Horten had long been established in innovative design and in 1983 started on a project for an advanced agile combat aircraft using carbon fibre composites and new lightweight metal alloys. This aircraft first flew in 1997 and entered service with the Luftwaffe in 2005. It is technically superior to any aircraft in the Russian and American Air Forces. Ironically both nations had missed out on the development of jet engines and were late converting from propeller driven aircraft. The Japanese had shared to some degree in German technological advancement. The Nakajima Ki-4027 fighter has proved a competent adversary in combat tests, but barely any other aircraft are able to match this aircraft in the combat role. This one is allocated to I Gruppe JG 54 carrying the arms of the city of Nuremburg commemorating that the unit had been formed as the first Gruppe of JG 70 at Herzogenaurach, which is near Nuremberg, in the summer of 1939.
  13. Good morning Here is one of my last built another Aifix Mustang Feeble Eagle flown by Glenn Eagelstone leading ace of 354 Fighter Group ..I just added a Pavla seat .. Patrice
  14. Finished this one a few weeks ago. Why is it every time I get the camera out, the sun goes in, so I have to use flash. Oh well. Nothing really added to the kit. The way the struts are done make it easy to line everything up. Rigging was 5amp fuse wire rolled straight and popped into pre-drilled holes. dab of super glue and job done. The flash makes the wire stand out more than it does in reality. Tim
  15. Good afternoon Another Airfix Mustang this time it is an D-5 Ferocious Franckie flown by Maj W HOPKINS who scored 8 victories during his tour with 361 Fighter Group in Europe .. I used the PAVLA Set to transform the Airfix model into an early model D-5 Patrice
  16. Here is my second completed model for the year, the Airfix 1/72 Fw190A8. This was supposed to be a quick and easy build for me but it didn't turn out that way, the kit fought me all the way. I have not been impressed with the fit of the main components, the fuselage parts were badly warped and I was surprised by some of the omissions and mistakes made by Airfix with this kit. I added Master turned brass barrels for the wing cannon and pitot tube, Aires resin main wheels to replace the hopeless kit parts, tape seatbelts and decals from Begemot. I had to make aerials for the DF loop and the Fug 16 which weren't supplied even though they are very prominent on the real aircraft. I also decided to have a got at riveting for the first time. Painted with Gunze Mr Hobby acrylics as usual. I have another two of these in the stash but I doubt I will bother making them as the Hasegawa Fw190 A8 is still the kit of choice in this scale in my opinion. I forgot to mention that the colour scheme is partly speculative, the only photo I could find of this aircraft was of it's wrecked fuselage minus wings, cowl and rudder lying at the side of Darmstadt airfield in 1946 in the Classic Publications Fw190 Vol 3 book. Also my thanks to "tank152" for his assistance and encouragement during this build, I will get round to making the A8/R2 I promise! Duncan B
  17. LD973 F3-O No. 438 RCAF Sqn, RAF Wittering, December 1943 – January 1944. Another old Airifx tooling
  18. This was built as an entry in the "Under a Tenner" GB Its the starter set and was brush painted using the paints included. Antenna was done using EZ Line
  19. Good morning I have just started the new Airfix Hurricane I want to build it as the aircraft flown by Paul Richey during the Batlle of France and I have a few questions .. What part must I use behind the seat E1 or D5 ? What type of exhausts E 5/6 or B 9/10 ? Thank you for your help .. Patrice
  20. Nicolson was 23 years old and a flight lieutenant in No. 249 Squadron, during the Second World War when he was awarded the Victoria Cross. On 16 August 1940 near Southampton, Nicolson's Hawker Hurricane was fired on by a Messerschmitt Bf 110, injuring the pilot in one eye and one foot. His engine was also damaged and the petrol tank set alight. As he struggled to leave the blazing machine he saw another Messerschmitt, and managing to get back into the seat, and continued firing until the enemy plane dived away to destruction. Not until then did he bail out, and he was able to open his parachute in time to land safely in a field. On his descent, he was fired on by members of the Home Guard, who ignored his cry of being a RAF pilot. Nicolson was the only pilot of RAF Fighter Command to be awarded the Victoria Cross during the Second World War. His Victoria Cross is displayed at the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon. Victoria Cross Citation: "Air Ministry, 15 November 1940. The KING has been graciously pleased to confer the Victoria Cross on the undermentioned officer in recognition of most conspicuous bravery : — Flight Lieutenant James Brindley NICOLSON (39329) — No. 249 Squadron. During an engagement with the enemy near Southampton on 16th August 1940, Flight Lieutenant Nicolson's aircraft was hit by four cannon shells, two of which wounded him whilst another set fire to the gravity tank. When about to abandon his aircraft owing to flames in the cockpit he sighted an enemy fighter. This he attacked and shot down, although as a result of staying in his burning aircraft he sustained serious burns to his hands, face, neck and legs. Flight Lieutenant Nicolson has always displayed great enthusiasm for air fighting and this incident shows that he possesses courage and determination of a high order. By continuing to engage the enemy after he had been wounded and his aircraft set on fire, he displayed exceptional gallantry and disregard for the safety of his own life." The Nicolson cabinet in the Battle of Britain Hall at Hendon: Nicolson's medals: This is the new tool Hurricane straight from the box with the addition of Tamiya tape seat belts, EZ-Line aerial wire (I haven't got the hang of using CA and accelerator yet, resulting in big blobs on the masts!) and painted ModelDecal Black Trimfilm for the canopy framing. I'm not sure if this machine is a totally accurate representation of Flt Lt Nicolson's. The only issues I had were with the fitting of the canopy and windscreen and propeller. I wasn't inspired by the decal choices in the box, so I raided my Airfix Victoria Cross Icons set (picked up for £15 from Toymaster.) It was a weekend build to test my newly-bought the LifeColor Battle of Britain set, but I was so unimpressed with the shade of both the green and brown, that I oversprayed with my old faithful Humbrol enamels! The decals were sealed by a brush-painted coat of W&N Galeria Matt Varnish. I have not applied any weathering, but I may do in due course. Despite today being bright, my conservatory is north-facing, so there is insufficient daylight for any decent pictures. Thanks for looking.
  21. Good evening Here is my last built Airfix Starter Set Tomahawk flown by P/O Neville DUKE I just added Eduard Pe set for the cockpit Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Hope you will enjoy it Patrice
  22. MiG-29 Type 9-12A 1 ELT Polish Air Force, Minsk-Mazowiecki, 2012 Decorated in honour of Wg Cdr Marian Pisarek Airfix / Caracal – 1/72 This is based on the old Airfix / Heller MiG-29 kit. There are lots of inaccuracies in the kit, many of which are just in the too-difficult tray (eg fuselage and canopy too narrow, fuselage too long around the air intake area)but what seemed to make the most difference was a reduction in wing chord. I took out 5 mm at the root and 3mm at the tip by removing the leading edge flaps, taking out a section of wing, and then re-fitting the flaps. Anyway, it looks something like a MiG-29 now to my eye. The whole thing was inspired by a superb decal sheet by Caracal Models (Sheet CD72010), giving all the markings needed (national insignia, badges and stencils as well as the special markings) to make any of the three specially marked Polish MiGs. I soon discovered that the fit of the old Airfix kit needed a lot of work and much filler – but that’s what we do isn’t it? Changes to make a current Polish aircraft were mainly the antenna fit, but I also scratch built the unusually shaped under-fuselage drop tank.
  23. Just finished this one today, the Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Mk.22, a nice little kit but a bit frustrating in places! as usual OOB, kit decals and Humbrol paints. I'm enjoying a few new tools from Airfix but with this one I found the join between part and sprue to be a tad thick and therefore a little annoying! IMAG1448 by [email protected], on Flickr
  24. Good morning I have just started the new Airfix Hurricane Left fuselage interior is well detailed But I would like to know wich of these parts I must use to put the seat on ? Uploaded with ImageShack.us Thank you for youe help Patrice
