  1. I recently purchased this kit second hand. Unfortunately on opening the box, there were no instructions or decals. However, I managed to download the instructions from Scalemates. I then contacted Airfix to see if they could provide me with the decals. After a couple of days, I received a reply asking for my address and telephone number "to help speed up the enquiry". That was on 9th February. To date, I have had no further communication from them (I emailed them a couple of days ago, but nothing). If, for some reason, they cannot provide the decals, does anyone know where I can purchase decals for the kit? I do have a load of spare decals from other kits, so could probably find a few basic decals, but would prefer to have the whole set. Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi all and here's what I got done last year. Lots of fun, tried to challenge myself with some armour and different schemes/finishes. Most were built OOB except where noted. I think the T-38 is my favourite given how basic a kit it is. Thanks for looking and here's to a happy new year with lots of modelling! 3. Hello fellow BMers, My entry is Azur Frrom 1/72 Renard R-31. It's the only airplane designed and built in Belgium to have seen combat during WWII. It's a two seater recon airplane of which 34 were delivered in 1934-1935. It was already obsolete when entering service (underpowered: 500hp, slow: 300 kph max, unarmored). Twenty-one were still serving in two frontline squadrons (named Blue/Red Sioux) during the German invasion of Belgium on 10 May 1940. Eighteen days later 9 were left and were destroyed by their crews. Yes, it's a plane, again. But this time I'll take the plunge as it's my first short run kit. Also some tiny photoetch parts are included in the box. Enough to make me feel I'm not "in my comfort zone". Here is the usual cursory overview of the box art and contents. You get 39 plastic parts (2 not used), a small PE fret, decals for 3 aircraft - all for Belgian Air Force planes, the only user, an instruction booklet with color profiles referencing Gunze/Mr. Hobby paints. ". The parts are nicely cast. No traces of flash. The sprue gates for the small parts are really much thinner than what I expected Clear. Fasten your seatbelts. I've begun to test fit the parts. First "new feeling": the plastic is much softer than what I'm used to so the sanding stick and cutter bite somewhat too easily in for my liking. We'll see where it goes. Don't forget to have fun with your "uncomfortable" builds! Good night. Pat.
  4. As a tribute to a recently deceased modeller on another forum, all modellers from that forum are being asked to build a Spitfire, as this was the last kit he built. My chosen model is the Mark VII High Altitude. ICM have done a good job with the kit, but the only colour references show the Spit in a medium grey livery with a flat light blue underside. My question is, was the Mk VII ever flown in a standard camouflage, or was it only used in the grey livery? Any information will be appreciated.
  5. Hi everyone and hope you had a good Christmas with some kits under the tree! Here's what I got finished for this year, a couple didn't quite make it but hope to finish them soon. 6. Well, another year another year book. 2021 hasn't been overly endowed, with good vibes and modelling mojo for me. If i had to blame anything for this it would be work, as workwise it has been a horrible year. Anyhoo i am not here to moan (a lot) What models i did complete were fairly benign and in a few cases reasonably ok by my meagre standards. Thankfully the BM massive provided lots of inspiration and i am looking forward to 2022 and lots of GB's on the horizon. So in no particular order as i can't remember which ones i built first here we go..... Airfix Hs 123 from the classics range 1/72 Storch Airfix Revell 1/32 Bf 109 G 10 1/72 Airfix Beaufighter TFX 1/72 Airfix Mig 17 1/72 Airfix Me262 A2 Airfix 1/48 BP Defiant 1 1/48 Tamiya P-51 B Mustang 1/72 Revell/Zvezda Bf 109F and finally, IL3 M 1/72 Hobbyboss And thats it! Thanks for looking. Have a happy and healthy New Year when it comes, ATB Greg Ooops! almost forgot this one...... Italieri/Hase 1/48 D day edition Hawker Typhoon 1B Thats definately all! Cheers Greg
  7. Hello there, Henrik here again. A week ago, I finished my second (painted) scale model, a Revell Hawk T.1 used by the RAF. Got it from my first visit to a model kit store one or two months ago with a epic 40% discount, so it was definitely worth it. More detailed explanation below (text wall warning lol) Fully out of box, second painted scale model, took exactly one month to build. (16/10 to 16/11) Base made from styrofoam and card paper painted with craft acrylic. Model itself primed with Gunze Mr Primer Surfacer 1000 lacquer spray can, main color brush painted with Vallejo Model Colour Acrylic Black paint and glossed with MIG Lucky Varnish acrylic gloss. Finally I gave it a quick panel line wash with Medium Grey Panel Line wash from MIG followed with final gloss varnish coats. All other parts were painted with Vallejo with craft paint in really minor areas for detail. *Entirely brush painted except the primer of course* Enjoy the pics~ ^base made with help from a Model Minutes tutorial ^one mistake I made which you can see here is I accidentally filled up some panel lines and stuff on the right wing while spray priming. Learnt not to get too happy with the spray can next time 😁 ^landing gear gave me so much pain as expected and refused to stay straight or not collapse when I set the whole model on the gear itself 😬 ^Tried my best at the cockpit, the seats already have p nice detail out of box but I added seatbelts made out of masking tape below the headrest which were missing. You can also clearly see a decal I screwed up here ^another decal I screwed up was the major tail decals which you can see missing when compared to the box art. Learnt to more carefully handle these decals (especially the thin Cartograf ones) and not break them easily. Build was good in general, parts fit quite well and good detail in many places such as the cockpit and other small parts. Decent amount of armament is provided but i chose to left then off as I forgot to drill holes for the pylons and when I realized that it was too late lol. I made lots of mistakes and messed up some stuff like the aforementioned tail decals which were ruined too badly, but still it was a fun build and a good challenge and I look forward to building more models in my newbie modeling journey What's next? For my third scale model, I bought an Academy 1/72 F/A-18+. Should be a good build after hearing good things about it. Also, I just recently bought my first airbrush kit and the Academy kit will be my first airbrushed scale model. Looking forward to starting on it once the airbrush arrives and I get paint and supplies. 😊 What do you guys think? Comments and critique greatly appreciated. Feel free to share them here. Thank you for reading!

  9. Hello there, Henrik here A few months ago (3 to be specific), I finished my first painted model, a a Revell 1/48 F/A-18E Super Hornet after more than 6 months, as I started work on it in November last year. I got it as a gift, and I chose a Hornet because (unpopular opinion(?) ahead) it's one of my favourite fighter jets, as it looks so sleek. 😄 I agree that the Hornet will never replace the Tomcat, but I consider it a worthy successor. It does the job well, and it kinda looks sick (with the Super Hornet being chonkier, a fat Hornet ) In case you're wondering why it took me so long, it's due to school, time constraints and procrastination. Sometimes I want to start work on it but then remember that I have to do other stuff later and then put the modelling work off When I do start work on it, it's hard to stop though, hahaha 😆. And also, I was planning for my second painted model to either be a plane or a car (either Revell and Tamiya planes, or Tamiya cars, specifically a Supra :D). But a few months ago, I saw a cool Bandai X-wing kit at a department store and couldn't stop myself. I'm currently using it to practice my skills, especially in painting and weathering. I have also tried many new techniques like masking canopies. Oh, and I got myself a Revell BAe Hawk 1/72 for my second painted model, I can't wait to start on it 😎 (once I finish the x wing of course) Here are pictures of the Super Hornet, enjoy~ Also entirely brush painted of course, don't have an airbrush (yet). ^ The left wing, which looks wrong, came like that in the box probably due to a defect. I know I should have got a replacement from Revell but I was too excited to build the model 😳 ^The foggy canopy was because I tried to remove the seamline by sanding and polishing but I can't get any polishing compound so I had to leave it foggy. ^Cockpit, which was the first part I painted and looks the worst. Constructive criticism and critique welcome! Overall, I enjoyed the process and loved every part of the build. I made lots of mistakes, some of which are pretty obvious, some not so, but I too learned a lot and look forward to proceeding ahead in my journey of starting this hobby and look forward to build more models. Thank you for reading, and be sure to comment your thoughts
  10. I found this photo collection just now, and it has numerous photos of WW2 US aircraft and radar pods, many of which were new to me, and I hope they are new to many of you as well. Mike http://www.gmodelart.com/2016/09/us-wwii-night-fighters.html

  12. The Weathering Magazine Aircraft – Accessories AMMO of MIG Jiménez (AMIG5218) It can be said that the accessories used on a model can often make the model or diorama itself. All of those accessories build the overall picture. This magazine in the Weathering series really deals with aircraft models and the accessories you would use with them, though with the inclusion of vehicles it may be stretching the "accessories" tag a little. Each article concentrates on one technique, and after a preamble from Mig himself, it proceeds as follows: WWII Seat and Belts Boarding Ladder Tanker Truck Wicker Seats Barrels, maintenance and Power Supply Accessories Wheels and landing gear Support trolley and rigging Wheels, wheel bays and landing gear Spoke Wheels Seats (Ejection) Arresting Hook Propeller Jet FOD Covers Pilot Helmet MD-3 Navy deck tractor Each article spans a reasonable amount of pages, and follows the familiar pattern of AMMO books, with plenty of photographs of the work in progress, plus captions that complete the picture. Of course AMMO products feature heavily in the articles,, but the techniques are important in themselves and if you're not wedded to AMMO products for whatever reason, it is easy enough to substitute your own existing stocks. The modelling on display is first-rate and an inspiration to us all as to what can be achieved with a little bit of skill and some innovative products and techniques. While related to armour or vehicle projects the principles can be applied across the board. The magazine isn't over-burdened by adverts, and this English language version has been translated from the original language by Iain Hamilton, and is available in Spanish, French and Russian in addition. The series can be purchased individually or as a subscription from the AMMO website, or you can probably find them at your more adventurous newsagent or model shop. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a quick reference for weathering techniques. Review sample courtesy of
  13. Hi Guys, I'm new to this Forum so wanted to get some suggestions. Ive recently built; 1/32 Revell Harrier GR.1 1/72 Revell Spitfire Mk.Vb 1/72 Airfix Hawk T1 1.72 Airfix Lightning F.2a 1/72 Airfix Hurricane Mk.1 1/72 Revell Typhoon Bearing in mind I'm relatively new to the hobby (and on a student budget) do you have any recommendations on what to build ? I only really want to build RAF operated aircraft. Thanks in advance, Matt
  14. Hi all, The first time I decided to create a yearbook here. Still modest output with 5 models completed but that is the highest number ever for me!!! The first one was the Israeli F-16I in 1/72. Kinetic kit. I started it back in early 2019 but the construction was not really fast. I got it ready for painting by the end of 2019 so winter of 2020 was paint job and then quite long-lasting decalling and final touches so that the model was finished in May. The next one was Jet Provost by Sword in The Poachers livery. Started in late 2019 and pretty quickly (for me) finished in July 2020. Then my three-spitfires-project started to reach RFI section. I started the whole thing on December 30th 2019 and finished in December last year. Again on and off, quite prolonged paint job on camouflages one by one, but glad I managed everything within a year! Tamiya's Mk.Ia was the first: Followed by Airfix's Mk.XIX And then by Eduard's Mk.IXe And the complete project result: So three RAF aircraft and two IDF ones. None I'm disappointed with, so a very pleasant result in that unusual year which was actually giving me way more opportunities to concentrate on the hobby compared to a typical year. All the best, Dennis
  15. Andy's 2020 'Hanger' - RFIs done since Lockdown Started.. I originally posted this in the wrong forum! again!!!! stick to models Andy..not computer skills! LOL It's been a tough year ! I think that getting back in to making models has in some part kept me sane. I'm exceptionally grateful to everyone who has appreciated my work. Those of you here who have given me encouragement , advice and tips on how to do things better have been invaluable. Thank You so much ! It's been nice to correspond with people around the World who are interested in the same subjects too. Also to see other modelers different interests and work has been interesting, informative and above all - inspiring! I have to thank my long suffering partner - always patient and encouraging 😘 , Alison aka "S.H.M.B.O" and our two cats.. Richard and Zoe (Richard for spreading his fur all over the place when i decided to use my airbrush and Zoe for chewing the Beaufighter's completed torpedo in to a dead mouse 'sculpture' ! ) Happy Christmas to one and all! Lets hope for a more normal future and soon! 16. Knowing how many of you are A-20/Havoc/Boston fans, I thought this footage might be of interest. The 416th is my favorite ETO A-20 group, and there are some excellent modeling details to be seen- nose art, unusual wing bomb rack loadouts,, and even some A-26's thrown in for good measure! The A-20 was such a handsome aircraft, in my opinion. Hopefully you will see some possible modeling projects. Loved the Cletrac being used as a tug! Footage via Zeno's Warbirds. Mike
  17. Hello guys, here is my next project, an anime themed model. It's Lynette Bishop's Spitfire Mk.IX from the Strike Witches anime.
  18. I'm keen to experiment with using washes to improve the finish of my models, so I would be very grateful for any tips on which wash(es) I should try - colour and brand - and how to get the best results. The models I make are mostly large scale WWII era aircraft, though I also do some vehicles for dioramas. Many thanks in advance for any help!
  19. Hello, I purchased the Heller 1/72 C-121 a and I am planning on biking it in the coming weeks. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on interior detail and whether the cabin can be seen through the fuselage windows. Also is there a best method of attaching these as I have recall glue for clear parts and I'm not overly fond of it. Finally, is there anything, in general, I should know about the build? Thank you so much in advance. I apologize if this is too much to answer
  20. Ok, so in a few weeks im going to start the Heller 1/72 C-121A and I was wondering if anyone had any advice: especially on the windows down the fuselage and how to attach them and whether i need to create my own cabin detail. Is there anything I must know about this kit?
  21. Hey, i know this probably has a really simple answer but i was wondering what is the best way to mask curves that follow a panel line?
  22. Hello everyone.. I just had an idea for a group build. We have all had relatives that served in the military or in civilian service, or served ourselves. Im proposing a group build celebrating those relatives and family histories or your history. I recently built a tank (trainers group build) that my grandfather trained in. I had an uncle that was in both the RN and US Navy in WW2 and Korea. So long story short is if you have a Familial connection to the equipment you wish to model, including being a passenger in some cases. Maybe they flew on H.P.Hamdens. Maybe they served on H.M.S. Repulse. Or drove a Firefly in N.E. Europe. We should celebrate there service. Maybe they were Rescued by S.A.R. Or flown home on a Lancaster or B-17 after being liberated from a POW camp. Maybe it was a slow boat from India or Burma at the end of the war ? I wont discourage civilian types as well. If you had a great uncle that shoveled coal for a British railway. Or was a crewman in the Merchant marine. Maybe they are a hostess or steward on British Airways ? Maybe they are a fireman or law enforcement ? We should celebrate them all as well. So if you're interested please let me know ? 1. Corsairfoxfouruncle 2. Helios16v 3. Ted 4. Zebra 5. Valkyrie 6. Jb65rams 7. Ray S 8. bigfoot 9. vppelt68 10. 825 11. JohnT 12. 12b. 14. 15. 16. Dennis
  23. We have just taken delivery of a selection of Kinetic kits with more due soon. Check out the selection here! https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/brands/kinetic/
  24. Well, I finally found what I was looking for...I've had the 1/48 Classic Airframes ASW kit for some time now. I located a 1/48 Gannet AEW of unknown lineage last month and I found a 1/48 Dynavector vac-form ASW. I'm planning on building the Classic Airframes as an ASW, the AEW as is and the Dynavector kit as a COD. I'm pretty sure I can find the decals, etc that I need to complete the project. I've just got an interest in these contra rotating prop birds. Wish me Luck! Nick
  25. Fairly new here (obviously as my post count suggests) and just started my very first model since I was about 13 (over 35 years ago) an Avro Vulcan (the Airfix 1.72 Vulcan to the Sky Set bought as a Christmas Present by the wife) - now, that is proving to be quite the project and with all the filling, sanding and scribing involved I feel like i've made very little progress... So in search of instant gratification...or at the very least a model I can build, paint and finish quickly...I purchased the smaller and ostensibly easier Airfix 1.72 Vampire T.11 - an aircraft dear to my heart as there was an abandoned one parked on the grass outside the ATC hut where I lived as a kid...and we used to clamber all over it before "Parkey" chased us off! Box Smaller and obviously at first glance likely to cause less trouble! Better fit and finish, recessed panel lines, nice decals...its obviously a far better quality model! First steps...prepare and paint the cockpit and fuselage nacelle Cockpit1 Airbrush it a nice even Black Cockpit2 Then finish off by painting a little detail, drybrushing with silver and adding a little aftermarket "help" Cockpit3 Cockpit4 Quite pleased so far - next step to do some of the large part assembly, get it fitted, filled and sanded...who knows I might get this completed in short order...which will be very satisfying!
