  1. Hi Everyone, Finally finished and took some photographs of my ICM 1/48 Counter Invader kit, so thought it would be selfish to keep them all to myself 🙂 Finished in the markings of `The Batplane`, flown by Al `Batman` Shortt and Larry `Robin` Counts from NKP Thailand in the late `60s Built as usual 99% from the kit contents Carried out some Rhinoplastii on the nose, this time prior to fitting it, which made it a lot easier than my `Farmgate` B-26 when I`d already fitted it. Other minor additions being ignition harnesses, brake pipes and various aerial wires The markings came from Caracal Decals Counter Invader set and went on beautifully Used `Foreign Invaders` book by Don Hagedorn and Lief Hellstrom as main reference, which has a great colour shot of an Invader with... .... the original stateside Stars and Bars showing through the worn camo` paint on the port wing, which I tried to recreate and also the roughly painted undersides on the Napalm Bombs. Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  2. Howdy Everyone, Thought I`d subject you to some photo`s of my latest effort My attempt at making a `Farmgate` Douglas Invader from ICM`s 1/48 B-26B Korea boxing Had to make a few changes: the obvious being deletion of the upper and lower turrets....... ....others were deletion of the wing guns, jump seat for radio operator ( ex gunners ) compartment and scratch built some wing pylons to ( loosely ) resemble the type fitted. Improvements and additions include: seat belts, ignition harness`s, brake pipes, metal tube for nose gun barrels....... ... and replaced the propellers with some Monogram ones from the spares box as the kit ones just didn`t look right ( to me ) I originally fitted the nose as per the kit but wasn`t happy with it, I held the model at various angles against photo`s but it looked ( to me ) to be short. So I sawed it off, shimmed it by about 2mm and moved the canopy back about 1mm. I believe these were painted in aluminium paint as per F-100`s and F-105`s in the theatre so didn`t so mad on various coloured panels. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  3. Hi Everyone, Hope you don`t mind me sharing some pic`s of my latest attempt at a `fat faced spad` Built from Revell`s reissue of Matchbox`s 1/48 A-1E kit Every time I build one of these I try to bring it up to something a bit nearer the real thing but always see afterwards all the bits I missed...... ....so hopefully this ones a little bit nearer than the last. Improvements this time include: Tamiya main undercarriage, arrestor hook, main wheels and air force type tailwheel engine and cowl. Monogram propeller, all from some recently `culled` kits. Tried to correct the windscreen by sanding off the incorrect pillars, polishing and adding thin strips of black decal to represent the bonded joints. Embellished the seats, added: gunsight, coaming, brake pipes, steps, vent in the fin leading edge, wing fences, wiper, various aerials...... and boxed in the main undercarriage bays. Decals from Caracal Models CD48046 USAF/VNAF A-1E Skyraider. Oh and went for a simpler weapons load than usual with the centre Navy style drop tank just to be different. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Russ
  4. Howdy Everyone Finished this one on my last day off work last week so thought you wouldn`t mind me sharing a few pic`s My attempt at ICM`s 1/48 Skymaster kit Built completely from the box with just seat belts and whip aerial added Trouble free build, used the kit decals which are a but thin and fiddley to move around and I`ve got the feeling are of a warbird as opposed to a `nam bird Not much else to say Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  5. Howdy All, Hope you don`t mind me subjecting you to yet another Skyraider ( I got a thing about Skyraiders ), so here`s some pic`s of my latest effort: Another go at Tamiya`s 1/48 A-1J kit Finished to represent `Tiny Tim` of the 602nd Special Operations Squadron at NKP Thailand around 1969 Been wanting to do a Black Bellied Spad for a while but have already done the one in the kit options and have been waiting for some after market subjects to come out. So having waited and waited finally decided to try hand painting some markings and find the rest from the kit and the stash Based on what few photo`s I could find on the subject, apart from the markings, added a few improvements....... .......such as: whip aerial, ignition harness, brake pipes and some yellow canopy handles Also added some landing lights on the wing tip undersides that USAF Skyraiders seemed to have had, the extra gun pod came from the spares box. Hope I haven`t bored you too much and you enjoy the pic`s Thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  6. Hi Everyone, Here`s some pic`s of my latest attempt at Trumpy`s 1/48 Dragonfly Finished to represent an aircraft of the 604th Air Commando Squadron, 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing...... based at Bien Hoa AB, South Vietnam, 1967-68 Completed in a short lived experimental camouflage scheme which I`d seen profiles of here and there and which caught my eye..... .... but of which I had my doubts until I picked up a book: `Vietnam Warbirds in Action` by Dana Bell which had a photo of one dated 1967. After much`Googling` I also found a photo of one in a similar scheme at an Airplane Museum in Thailand, so thought I`d give it a go. Apart from decals and aerials it`s made from the box contents. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking, Cheers Russ
  7. Hi Everyone, Thought I`d show you some pic`s of my very latest effort, yet another attempt at making Matchbox`s finest into something resembling a `Fat Faced Spad` Finished to represent an A-1E of the 602nd Air Commando Squadron, based at Bien Hoa Air Base, South Vietnam in the early/mid 1960`s Made quite a few improvements, including: widening the propeller blades, reshaping the cowl front, ignition harness, vent on the fin leading edge, wing fences at the wing trailing edge,...... steps on the fuselage, static whips on the rudder, much work on the undercarriage and wheel wells, tarted the seats up, a little detail in the `blue room`, aerials, made a windscreen wiper... and cowling shutters ( that you can barely see ). All were made from scratch, I did get an old Monogram one with the intention of robbing it, but decided to build it instead ( coming soon !) the weapons all came from the stash and I tried to recreate a fairly common load for the plane and time frame The decals came from Caracal Decals set CD48046 Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  8. Hi Everyone, finally finished the T-28 I always wanted to do....... ...an Air Commando`s T-28B in Operation Farmgate markings in the early 1960`s Built from Roden`s T-28C kit ( the B parts are still included ) Finished in the markings of 1st Air Commando Squadron `Soc Trang Angels`, Soc Trang Air Base, Vietnam, 1963 Decals from AOA Decals 48-005, The bombs came from their `D` issue of the kit, the pylons are modified Mohawk items and ...the 500 round Gun Pods I made from scratch from plastic sheet. Finally here`s a pic` with it along side an Operation Farmgate Invader which I made from the Monogram kit Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
  9. Hi everyone, Whilst I was concentrating on my `Secret War`theme recently I dragged this one off the shelves and gave it a make over, so I thought i`d show you some pic`s of my newly refurbished, 2nd attempt at building a B-26K from the Monogram kit. Finished as an aircraft of the 609th Special Operations Squadron, Used for `Steel Tiger` missions over Laos on the `Ho Chi Mihn Trail`, using the call sign `Nimrod` On my 1st attempt I used a Paragon Designs conversion but wasn`t 100% happy with the nose as it was and I didn`t make a great job of attaching the resin prop` blades to the hubs So when I managed to get a hold of a Cutting Edge 8 gun nose and another glass nosed Invader kit, I salvaged as much of the Paragon set off the other one as I could ie, cockpit, tip tanks, antenna(s), rudder, fuselage insert and wing pylons and fitted to the new kit using the C/E nose This time I modified the kit prop`s using sheet polystyrene and filler and had to make the vortex generators on the fin from scratch Unfortunately the Paragon late style engine cowls didn`t survive the surgery so I completed it as an early `K` with just the white serial on the fin and used the kit cowlings as they came. to portray one of the first aircraft of the deployment The weapons came from a Hasegawa weapons set. Hope you enjoy looking at. Cheers Russ
  10. Hi All, Managed to finish this in the week and get some shots outside before the clouds came back, Model USA 1/48 Cessna Bird Dog Finished to represent an aircraft from the Ravens secret detachment of Air Commandos, FACs from the War in Laos Built OOB except for lack of decals Almost given up hope of getting another of these kits as I wanted to do this subject for a few years now Also a shot of it with its companion Raven, Rodens T-28 and here with my first attempt at the kit from some time back, with kit decals Hope you enjoy looking at, Thanks for looking, Russ
  11. Hi Everyone, thought I`d show you some pic`s of my `Ravens` T-28D Forward Air Controller that I built from Rodens 1/48 T-28B kit Which is another addition to my small but growing collection of unmarked aircraft from the `Secret War` in Laos at the time of the Vietnam conflict Additions include; rocket pods from Roden Mohawk, slightly modified pylons from resin Skyraider set and bits of wire and sheet for the various antenna This is the third build of Rodens T-28 (Fourth if you count the repaint job on the 606th Air Commandos build) with one still in the stash to do with another `Ravens` aircraft on the bench at the moment, hopefully coming soon Anybody interested in the `Ravens` should look up Chris Robbins book of the same name, amazing read ( in my opinion anyway ) Hope you enjoy looking at, Cheers Russ
  12. Hi Everyone, just thought I`d show you my Monogram 1/48 scale Invader which I modified to represent an Air Commandos B-28B of Operation Farmgate . based at Bien Hoa Air Base, South Vietnam in the early 1960`s The kit started life as a clear nosed B-28C, which I converted with a `Cutting Edge` 6 gun nose. scratch built weapons pylons, reworked antenna and some suitable stores from the spares box and the bogus South Vietnamese markings came from a Skyraider sheet Hope you enjoy looking at.
  13. Hi all here`s my Roden 1/48 scale T-28 Trojan, completed to represent an aircraft of the 606th Special Operations Squadron based at Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, around the late 1960`s. I actually built this last year some time but have just finished repainting it as I felt that my previous attempt was not `right` The kit actually started out as a `B` version, but is updated with modified Skyraider pylons, weapons from the `stash` Numerous scratch built antenna and Decals from Rodens latest boxing of the kit Spent a long time researching the colour scheme, which was not std SEA USAF camouflage colours on these aircraft Hope you enjoy looking at.
  14. Hi Everyone, Hope you don`t mind me showing you some pic`s of my Roden 1/48 scale AU-23A Peacemaker from my Special Ops corner that was photographed in sunnier times Done as an COIN evaluation aircraft of 4400th Special Operations Squadro, USAF, circa 1972 Built OOB with just antenna and seat belts added Building the minigun was very fiddley but the rest was a fairly easy build as Roden builds go Hope you enjoy looking at. Happy modelling....
  15. Hi everyone, here`s some pic`s of my second Testors 1/48 Skymaster that I`ve just finished Done to represent an aircraft of the 14 Special Operations Wing, Nha Trang Airbase S, Vietnam Which was used for Psycological warfare missions such as Broadcasting and leaflet drops Sometimes known as `the bullsh*t bomber` ( I did google it and some pic`s came up ) Apart from seats, glare shields by landing lights and aerials every thing was in the box hope you enjoy looking at, Cheers
  16. Hi all, finished my Testors 1/48 O-2a Skymaster which I`ve done to represent an aircraft of the 23rd TASS, used for night missions over the Ho-Chi-Minh trail during the Vietnam war, call sign `Nail` Scratch built some dodgy front seats and radio gear in the back, also fitted with 7 shot rocket launcher and flare dispenser which I also cobbled together they had the stbd window removed for the observer/navigator to lean out of with a `starlight scope` to search for targets and a cover for the anti collision light, which I also did and some little plates in board of the landing lights to reduce the glare Hope you enjoy looking at
