  1. This one took a long time, especially the painting. I was struggling with a good method of chipping at such a small scale. All hairspray, chipping medium etc. were producing way to coarse chips. I think they're fine for 1:35 but not 1/72. I've experimented a lot on some cheap Armourfast models and finally found a good one that served me well. Instead of any chipping medium I've coated the primed model with Alclad lacquer. After long curing I've sprayed the main yellow coat and gray-ish camo over that. Then I used very little airbrush cleaner, just to soften the paint and scratched the paint carefully with a needle, toothpick and small hard brush here & there. The advantage is that I could slowly wipe off the paint in some places creating this sort of 'gradient'. It looked like it was naturally worn off. Took a lot more time that a 'normal' method but at least I was satisfied with the result. After all that a normal enamel wash & pigments weathering came on. Another problem was the tracks. Those rubber ones gave a me a real headache as the paint was peeling off them so easily. Finally I've found out the painting the directly (without primer) with Mr. Hobby metallic paints stops peeling. They hold on the the rubber pretty well. I'm quite pleased how it came out. Some people may say it's a little bit overdone but I kinda like those heavy weathered models. The stowage comes from various resin packs I've gathered Here are some pictures And some un-photoshopped ones Thanks for viewing, comments welcome
  2. Really he = @JOCKNEY did it! Way back a few years ago he gave me an Academy Wildcat kit, that I started building in the Africa GB two years ago. Thanks Pat! It was close to getting finished in the GB but... you know what sometimes just happens. Now I had the Recce Spitfire just finished, was itching to start the Draken build, but only after the second kit has arrived (it was shipped yesterday ) and not yet finding the inspiration to go on with a Sword Seafire , In my online photo account I ran into the little (No, it's not little! It's HUGE compared to a Spitfire, Mustang, FW 190 or the tiny Bf 109 - I don't have a P-47 in my cabinet yet, but wait until the STGB later this year to see that corrected ) Grumman I had quite completely overlooked and/or forgotten. A coat of varnish, adding the prop and decals - voilá she'd be ready for the gallery, and then she was! Thanks to usual suspects again for giving me the push required to finish this one too. Actually she was my sixth (6th!) finish in the current edition of KUTA. A trio of Bf 109:s posted here before Christmas, then a pair of Ju 88:s hidden in the STGB threads and now this. Makes me very happy 🥰 . Oh, pics are only in the Gallery. There was not much to add to the previous build thread! V-P
  3. My entry from the 'Africa' GB - the 1/48 Airfix Curtiss Tomahawk Mk.II. The build thread is here if you want to see it coming together. Completely OOB, except for some Tamiya tape seat belts. A fun build and a chance to use my sand weathering wash! Here are the pictures: My one issue during this build was the opacity of the paint on the canopy - it is the same colour as the fuselage, but light was seeping through I and making it look pale. I added some thinned dark brown paint, but could not quite match the colour on the airframe... As ever, comments and criticism welcomed!
