  1. Hi, Here's my Revell F-84E with Aeromaster decals. That 86th FBW must have been quite a sight, I hope to reproduce a little of that magic. After years of looking for the F-84E and only seeing F-84G's, I finally found several last year at a modelling festival and from an estate sale. The one from the estate sale (a modeller named Jean-Claude of the Amay Models Club) had a bit of work done on it. He removed what looks like external reinforcement plates around the Main Landing Gear wells. I've circled the areas in red on the picture below. The shape of the ones in front of the wells reminded me a bit of the compressibility flaps on late P-38's and I noticed that there was a stencil with quite a bit of text on them. Stencils 40 and 41 on the Revell kit sheet. Fearing that the stencil might mean "stay away from this flap!" I looked at it with a magnifier. The stencil is about electrical plugs. I plan to use Jean-Claude's lower wings on this build as this will be the earliest F-84E that I'd want to build and thus the best one to do without external reinforcements. Cheers, Stefan.
  2. #23/2021 My dad´s next 15th AF pony, after the Tuskegee one. Tamiya kit with Aeromaster decals. Did some minor filling and removing to get a D-5 model. Also filled the wing panel lines, like on the original. Painted with AK Xtreme Metal Color Aluminium. All the yellow trim is painted, the black stripes are decals. Added some fuel lines between drop tanks and wings with lead wire. Antenna wire done with EZ Line. Eduard seatbelts used. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235098060-airwar-over-austria148-north-american-p-51d-mustang-2ndfs52ndfg-yellow-tails-15th-af/ The model shows the P-51 of Korean-American Fred F. Ohr, serving with the 2nd FS 52nd FG, stationed in Italy 1944. He was credited with the destruction of 6 aircraft in the air and 17 on the ground. Ohr was born on July 15, 1919 in Oregon to Korean immigrants Wanda and Wan Ju, and grew up on a farm in the Boise, Idaho basin. Out of high school he joined the military in 1938 but was not on the path to becoming a pilot until inadvertently participating in a pilot examination in 1940. In fall 1942 he deployed with the 68th Material Service Squadron to Britain. He served as a ground crew member in Tunisia, seeing action as his airbase was overrun. Afterwards, Ohr flew until November 1944 with the 2nd Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Group, ending his tour as the squadron's commanding officer. He received numerous decorations including the Silver Star with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Distinguished Flying Cross with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal with 18 Oak Leaf Clusters. He received a citation for his escort action during Operation Tidal Wave in 1943, when he and his unit intercepted three enemy fighters preparing to attack Allied bombers over a target area. He shot down one aircraft during the mission. After the war, Ohr became a dental surgeon in Chicago. He practiced dentistry until his retirement in 2005. 4. Hello everyone, finally I'm ready to join this GB . My first entry to this GB will be a Eduard BF 109 G6 Weekend edition. I bought some Aeromaster decals a while ago for a G6, the one that caught my eye was "White 11" from 7./JG 3. Beside the decals, it will be build straight OOB. I have to find another canopy in my spare box, I just found out The box: The sprues: The decals from the kit, quite stunned that eduard gives you 5 different schemes in a weekend kit Really had to restrain myself for not building the one of the two finnish The one I'll be attempting to make (A/C #4). Those : The aeromaster decals:
  5. Kit - Tamiya Paint - Alclad & AK Xtreme metal lacquers, Tamiya acrylics. Decals - Aeromaster 48-569 Extras - Eduard placard set, Ultracast resin wheels Republic P-47D-27 Thunderbolt Assigned to Major Clay Tice 507th FS, 404th FG Autumn 1944 Not too much to say in all honesty; Tamiya's still superb 2003 kit is a dream to build and really does define the 'shake & bake' kit in my opinion - this is the fourth one I've built and the first 'bubbletop'. The AK Xtreme Metal lacquers continue to astonish at just how 'user friendly' they are... just need some more tones as my choice is a wee bit more limited than I'd like, hence I used a couple of Alclads in this build. As ever please feel free to comment, hurl abuse or ask a question. Next two projects are already on the bench and both come from boxes marked 'Airfix'. Best from NZ. Ian.
  6. 16/2019 And here´s the third of five Emils. Hasegawa kit, legs shortened about 2-3mm, some decals from Aeromaster but they got the Stammkennzeichen wrong, the ones for the underwing are missing so are decals for the coat of arms of JFS1. My dad used Luftwaffe letter decals from Fantasy Printshop, and coat of arms decals from Peddinghaus (1/72 ones because the 1/48 were way too large). Brake lines done with lead wire and plastic rods, the latter ones used also for the upperwing landing gear indicators, a piece of brass pipe for the antenna to fuselage insert, EZ Line for the antenna, AK Real Color paints for the RLM 74/75/76 camo. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235054625-ship-defense148-messerschmitt-bf109e-4-kommando-losigkeit/ Between February 14th and March 20th 1942, a bunch of pilots and aircraft from JG1 and Jagdfliegerschule (Fighterschool) 1 and 2 were sent to the far north to escort and protect German ships in Norway. The unit was called Jagdgruppe Losigkeit after it´s CO Hauptmann Fritz Losigkeit. 8. #1/2016 New year, new production line and finally my dad´s first finished model. The new Hobby Boss kit with Aeromaster decals, stencils partly from the sparesbox, brake line on front leg and seat belts added, painted with Gunze and Tamiya acrylics. Aircraft of Kommando Welter later designated 10./NJG11 towards the end of war. Only a handful two-seat nightfighters were used in battle more or less successful mostly against Mosquito NFs and British 4-Mots. "Red 8" was captured by British troops and later found its way to South Africa were it is now displayed in a museum. the aerodynamic testbed with the real deal
  9. The paint in my much-loved bottle of Aeromaster acrylic RAF Interior Green is beginning to get a bit thick. It seems to me that every acrylic range responds to a different thinner. What have people used successfully to thin Aeromaster please?
  10. Here´s one of my dad´s older builds, THE classic German medium bomber. My dad didn´t want to do the usual 70/71 camo, so it has become a desert version. Revell Germany kit with Aeromaster decals, Gunze and Tamiya acrylics, Humbrol Matt Cote. Still a good kit, only critical point is the glassnose to fuselage connection. Found no pic of the original aircraft. It´s a bit of a mystery. Maybe "Error"master has striked again. According to the fuselage code the a/c was assigned to Stukageschwader 3 in Lybia. But looking at the scorpion badge on the front it was also with Sonderkommando DORA, a scientific/geological/cartografing mission in the Lybian desert. Also not sure if it was a H or P model, there´s a ProModeller 1/32 He111P kit with these markings. But it looks good in that dress :-) and a fitting truck of Sonderkommando DORA, Tamiya 1/48 oob
  11. Hello Everyone This is my contribution to this group build. 1/48 Eduard Bf-109G-6. It has been started but I hope this is not considered 25% I will replicating the Sharkmouth Finnish BF-109 from the Aeromaster Augsburg Eagles Part 1 set These are aftermarkets I will be using for this build As you know the overtrees only come with plastic, so there will no cockpit decals, and I will use a set of paper seat belts. Thank you and stay tuned!
  12. Ok as host of this GB I guess I had better build something! Well I had it all planned before I went on holidays and I had hoped to buy stuff while I was away but couldn't find what I wanted so just ordered online. My cunning plan fell to pieces once I got home and started looking at the references I had, I wanted to build a Latin American P-47D. The decals I got were for D-30s and higher, where as the model I was building was a D-25. I then though about modifying the model I had to suit (not a really hard mod to do) until I found the perfect decal set! So now I’m building Brazilian P-47D-25 of 1°GAvCA used in Italy from October 1944. The decals are from a super rare AeroMaster Thunderbolts Galore set. Plus I will be throwing in a bit of AM stuff as well. I only have the model at the moment, the AM stuff is stock photos. no need for sprue shots for this one... Aires Wheel Wells…I know the Tamiya ones are nice but these are resin…….. Eduard detail set (plus canopy masking set too) Master gun barrel set… I blame Arnold for this…. AeroMaster decal…rare as hens teeth…..hope I don’t stuff them up! And this is what I’ll be building….have already found an issue with the decals, the a/c serial number is wrong for the aircraft ID number! Will sort that out when I get to it. I won’t get a chance to start this now until next week, go back to work on Wednesday, plus the AM bits haven’t arrived yet. In the mean time I’m working on “Gold Member”.
  13. Hi everyone, here's a question for the RNZAF in WW2 experts! I'm currently building a model of NZ3254 using the old 1/72 Aeromaster RNZAF decal sheet. Did this aircraft have the diagonal recognition stripes on it's wings as the Aeromaster sheet doesn't say? I've tried hunting for photos of that aircraft but haven't turned up anything. Thanks in advance, Mike.
  14. My first completed build in 2016, another Focke Wulf Fw-190 from Eduard's Profi Pack. Added photo etch landing gear covers from Eduard Set and decals from Aeromaster (Butcher Birds #72001). Photo of the original aircraft here: http://www.jg300.de/fw-190a-gelbe-1-7-oder-17.html Gun barrels from Master Model. Painted with acrylics from Gunze/Mr.Hobby. Photographs: Wolfgang Rabel, IGM Cars & Bikes Cheers!
  15. I’ve mentioned previously that my first model was a FROG 1:72 DH Comet racer, it was a present from a friend on my 7th birthday. My dad built and painted the kit for me, having never built a plastic kit before in his life and I though it was magnificent. Strangely dad was never really enthusiastic about my new hobby following that build, but now and again he would get a wee bit more excited, like when I bought my first (Airfix) P-38 – I’ve posted photos here before of my grandfather’s truck towing P-38’s through Liverpool in 1943 so I won’t bore you by repeating that tale. The only other aeroplane dad got excited about was the Catalina. Following the loss of HMS Hood in spring ’41 (and the subsequent sinking of the ‘culprit’ Bismarck), Catalina’s and Fairey Swordfish the types that had hunted-down and damaged Bismarck, were sent out on (what we would now call) PR visits to towns were the loss of the Hood was particularly felt. Hood had been berthed in Liverpool in May 1940 for rest & refit. My grandfather took my dad to see the Catalina that was moored somewhere in the Mersey and he was lucky enough to be taken aboard… He never forgot his experience. Often when we went to local toy-shops he would try to get me to buy the Airfix or Revell Catalina kits, I always maintained that I’d build one for him ‘one day’. Dad died in January 1988 and I never did build him a Catalina. It’s one of those things that crept across my mind occasionally when I was deciding what model to build next… “Hmmm, I really must do a Catalina one day, for dad…”. I was having that very thought as I was browsing eBay a few months back, and then… …BAM !! – a trader I’ve bought a lot of decals from, had Aeromaster 72-039 for sale, a Catalina sheet that included WQ*Z (AH545), the machine that first spotted the Bismarck on the 26th May. I bought the sheet and here's the result. Thanks folks, for taking the time to read this, I know it is long-winded but it’s a form of catharsis that I needed to go through and I appreciate you’re patience. * * * Kit - Academy 1:72 Paint - All enamels, Humbrol & Xtracolour. Decals - Aeromaster 72-039 Extras - None. Consolidated Catalina I 209 Squadron RAF Coastal Command First aircraft to spot & track the Bismarck 26 May 1941 As ever thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Please feel free to ask any questions or leave any criticism, it's all welcome. AFN Ian.
  16. I'm currently building the Italeri Sea Hurricane in 48 scale, and plan to do it as Nicki, one of 835 NAS White Sea Hurricanes. Is anyone familiar with the Aeromaster Sea Hurricanes at War II decal sheet? I bought one in preparation for the build. The reference pictures I've seen of Nicki clearly show the red shield on the starboard cockpit access panel but it seems to be missing from the decal sheet Is this a known omission, or are there other reference pics of Nicki without the shield? If not, does anyone know where I might find a decal for the shield? My skills wouldn't be up to painting it....! Thanks in advance for any advice Justin H
