  1. Radleigh originally had Burma but he kindly passed it on due to other commitments. I hope the end result doesn't make him regret that decision. I bought the Aztec Sky Guardians 2 sheet a while ago in anticipation of the someday re-release of the Revell MiG-21F-13. There are a couple of schemes on the sheet for Chengdu F-7s, which are Chinese built export versions. Over Christmas I took a punt on a couple of the Academy MiG-21 (actually M-21 on the box) kits on the basis they're cheap as chips. They make a lousy MiG-21, but fortunately, the biggest flaws in them make them a great basis for an F-7 - in particular the fact they have the clear panel behind the cockpit moulded as solid. I've started this build in preference to the Su-25 because I haven't been near the modelling bench in months and I want something simple I can butcher with a clear conscience to get back up to speed. Pics will follow soon.

  7. As stated above, the last Spit of the year, the Academy Mk XIV in 1/72. Built oob, brush painted with Humbrol Enamels and decals from the Xtradecal sheet X72178. Built to represent NH 703 AE-B, "Emily" of No402(RCAF) Squadron, Gremany, April 1945. A fairly simple build, Extradecals were great, kit decals (walkway lines, tail markings) not so, but another coat of klear has been applied and they're less silvery. Only two shots as my lamp blew while taking these photos. So, I started my summer building the 3 kits in my stash, ended up building 5, and still got 3 in the stash......how did that happen? Sean

  9. Hi all, Academy A-10, 72nd Scale. Brian.
  10. My second entry for the GB, Academy's Gustav. On first inspection seems to a lot more to the kit than the ICM one. Lovely bit of detail as well and the tail is separate from the fuselage, which I don't really like, but nevermind. On with the pics, The sprues- The markings-( I have another set of these by a different company, just in case) If anyone can give me a heads-up on the colours (is that a brownish colour around the canopy?) I'd be most grateful. Painted inside the cockpit and wheelwells already, but not too sure on the right colour so a repaint may be needed, but started all the same, Sean
  11. Another build finished at the weekend,(Sat, after the match). Built in my usual style, basically OOB, brush painted with Humbrol enamels. A bit of scratch building done in the cockpit, new seat, new instrument panel and once again a pilot donated from Airfix (this one is a Bader pilot). Decals come from Modeldecal sheet no. 85 and depict 3-29. 28Grupo, Caccia Ricognitori, 3 Stormo, stationed at Verna Villfranca in 1977. The green in the roundels look quite dark, but are just about the right colour in the flesh. Some 50 odd decals to place, so sore eyes and well into Sat. evening before I got finished. Thank God for 80's rock and lots of tea The Academy kit is pretty basic, although it is a nice enough kit for a couple of quid off e-bay. Very enjoyable build and one of my favourites since returning to modelling this past couple of years As usual all comments are welcome, Sean
  12. Completed these for the CAS, albeit a bit late. One is finished with a newly arrived wash and one thats been used and resident for a while at the base. Pics taken with a poor 8.1mp compact until my camera is fixed. Kit: Academy A-10A Scale: 1/72 Scheme 75th FS, 'Tiger Sharks' Tweedler' Kit: Academy A-10A Scale: 1/72 Scheme 75th FS, 'Tiger Sharks' 'KC'
  13. Yup, I know.. another one Had been looking at getting one of these for a while, and was torn between this or the Revelll one. A few reviews I had read made my mind up and this was the result. I can only assume that on the day the painting instructions were being created, there was a fire drill on, OR it was Friday at 1658 and the design team were about to have a week off. These and part of the instuctions are incomplete; you get nice 3 views with shades of grey but no tags to say what they are, though if you refer to the colour call out chart it's not imossible to work out what should be what. Can't believe no-one has informed them though... or they are not bovvered The kit is impressive, goes together very well. The intakes are interesting but I've seen worse. I'm surprised an after market company hasn't made a seamless set yet. The wheel bays and bomb bays are very impressive (which benefitted from a nice dirty wash!), and it was a bit of a travesty to hide the former, but I think all aircraft look better with their u/c up, especially this one. I had to trim some sticky out parts of the seat to close the canopy properly. Might be just my constructing but it wouldn't sit flush with the sill, so off they were hacked! The pilot was added from a Revell F-16. I'm still perplexed as to why so few pilot figures (as in, decent, properly-attired ones!) are included in kits. Ah yes.. the painting...This took a while! Researched a whole load of articles about how to do it. Preshaded, then a base coat of F-15 Mod grey, followed by Dark Mod grey over.. (as I read i one magazine). When it was dry though I found the latter was too 'light blue' so I mixed my own based upon Academy's own instructions. So I went with 80% Humbrol 128 and 20% Humbrol 125, which is better but probably not accurate. Academy's topside panel decals are far too light so I made them roughly the same tone as the leading edge strips. The vent decaals are not very good either so I used paint with a dry-brush of gold over. The metallic sheen I attempted with a mix of Alclad light sheen, aluminium and pale gold, but it doesn't show up too well in these pics. I can recommend this kit but only if you use alternative colour tables! However, it's one of the kits I came close to getting bored with because I spent so much time painting it and trying to finish it off! That's not it's fault, just mine, as I tend to get bored with something after 6 weeks building
