  2. This isn't going to be a very involved WIP, but I thought I'd put one together upon my return from a few months hiatus from modelling. I have other stalled projects that I should probably be working on, but it has been well established that Spitfire builds bring good luck. So this build includes a high back XVI from an AZ 'Joypack', a low back AZ XVI, and my unfinished Mk I from the Battle of Britain GB. The Mk I depicts the aircraft of 'Titch' Havercoft who flew with 92 Sqn during the Battle of Britain. It just needs its prop, landing gear and a little weathering. Next up is a Mk XVI that I'm planning on finishing as James 'Stocky' Edwards' aircraft from when he commanded 127 Wing in Germany near the end of the war, using this Xtradecal set. This is the first time I've tried using pre-cut canopy masks. Pretty nice! I had to use a little of the new Tamiya 'curves' masking tape since the Techmod masks were designed for the Hasegawa kit. The new Tamiya tape is pretty good stuff too. I brushed on some metalizer in order to do some chipping as Stocky's Spitfire looks pretty beat up in the few pics I found here, and here. The bubble top Mk XVI is going to depict Boleslaw Kaczmarek's aircraft from 302 Sqn using the same Xtradecal sheet. It's good to be back!
  3. Hi I purchased this kit last year and did checked it like I always do, but until now when I pulled it out of my stash in order to build it, my kit is missing two parts; # 11 transparent part (canopy) and P1 pur part (cockpit floor). Wondering if anyone else here has had or have similar issues ? I've already sent email to the address mentioned on the kit but no response so far. Any help or info would be highly appreciated. TIA Teemu Haajanen

  11. Hello, here's something without guns, just for a change ... It's AZ Model's 1/72 BĆ¼cker BĆ¼-181 that I had received from a fellow IPMS member a couple of years ago. A very simple kit with only 35 parts, that seems to be one of AZ Model's earlier production runs. Fit is vague at best; expect a lot of grinding, filling and sanding! Some surface textures appear to be 'unclean' (minor irregularities and scratches) and need to be polished. The clear parts looked foggy, however, a dip in Alclad Gloss Cote improved the looks. The wheels were one of the poorest parts, being molded in one piece they were slightly off-center and were replaced with resin wheels from a Tiger Moth that have about the same size. Thanks to fellow IMPS member Walter Gagawczuk for providing these! Handrails behind the cockpit and exhaust stubs on the underside are scratchbuilt. Painted with Gunze acrylics, decals out of the box. Thanks for your interest, with kind regards from Vienna Roman Photographs: Wolfgang Rabel, IGM Cars & Bikes

  13. Hello, this is my interpretation of "Red 4" from Grupul 7/8 Vanatoare in spring 1945. The kit is 1/72 AZ Model Bf-109 G6 with photo etch from Brengun, vacu canopy from AML, pitot tube from Master Model and decals from RB Productions (http://www.radubstore.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_67). The aircraft was captured from retreating German forces in autumn 1944. All previous national insignia and theater markings were overpainted by the new operators. Note the overpainted Balkenkreuze on the upper wings and fuselage, the Swastika has been removed as well. The former yellow fuselage band has partly been covered with White, partly overpainted with RLM76 and additional motting applied. White wingtips added. The yellow lower cowl has been overpainted with RLM76 as well, but that wasn't done very carefully with the new paint roughly covering the cowl and some paint chipping too - a patchy affair. The tricolore on the rudder is painted on, I tried to capture the colour tone of the Roundels. A (quite blurry) photograph of this aircraft can be found here: http://www.me109.info/display.php?a=e&fid=8859 Photographs by: Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes Thanks for your interest!
  14. I started this AZ Spitfire IX as a way to jump start a difficult build in the P-38 STGB, and it brought the required good luck. Now it's finished and ready for inspection. I had to scrounge together decals from the kit, aftermarket, and home made in order to depict BS451, RF-M, "Joan" of 303 (Polish) Sqn. The "Joan" was written on the fuselage with a white-ink pen and betrays my poor handwriting abilities. Many profiles of this aircraft show the "Joan" as very small 'block' letters, but the only photo I could find shows it in a flourished cursive script, so that is what I attempted. Here she is next to two other 303 Spitfires in a growing collection. I managed to place the roundels over the walkway stencils this time. Baby steps.

  19. Hello and thanks for your interest. This is another AZ Model Bf-109 from my workbench, The markings represent the mount of Gefr. Alfred Michels of 16/JG53, who crash-landed this plane behind American lines on January 1, 1945. A number of pictures of this machine exist on the internet - an interesting feature is the placement of 'Blue 2' which sits upon a patch of colour where a previous number had been overpainted. The "Blue 2" is on the second fuselage segment behind the cockpit, on the left; It's on the first fuselage segment behind the cockpit, to the right. The number itself seems very pale or weathered. Therefore, I misted the "2" and the Gruppen-Balken with grey paint while still on the decal sheet - not my best idea. While it worked well on the number itself, it left traces around the Gruppen-Balken where I failed to eliminate the carrier film. It seems as if a squadron badge had been overpainted on the cowling. The model was painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics in RLM 74/75/76. Weathering was done with artist's oils. I added Brengun photo-etch to enhance some details like cockpit, flaps, antennas. The canopy is a vacu item from Rob Taurus. Thanks for your interest! Cheers from Vienna, in the pouring rain.
  20. Hey guys, i was thinking if i should join with Fw 190 or Bf 109, just to have something from the other side too. In the end i did pick Bf 109G from AZ Model. I did some research in last few days, trying to find some plane which was in the air during June 1944. I did find a few, but i m still not sure which one to make. All of them are using the "generic" camouflage, no aces planes so quite "boring". So if anyone had some images, photos or drawings of Bf 109G used in Normandy (or just in France/Netherlands/nearby ) July 1944, it would be great. Here are few limitations though: - the Bf 109G has to be -2/4/6/8/14. NOT -10 (simply put - else with the two "bulges" or the narrow cowling without bulges, not the -10 type. Thats limitation caused by the kit. The canopy/tail/tail wheel can be any version) - there should NOT be any special artworks - i can make any numbers hopefuly from sets i have, stripes and that kind of style can be masked, but i definitely cannt paint "mickey mouse" or iron eagle in 1/72 by hand.. -other than that, the more special marking, armament, load (2x fuel tanks for reckon versions or so), the better I did give it quick start yesterday, painted and drybrushed the cockpit, today i ll complete it and wash it and make some shots tonight when i m at home. And meanwhile i ll try to find some interesting camo Found some nice camouflages, but ofc not from the June 1944.. But i ll resist and will not build more 109s at once!
  21. Hey guys, this is my last finished kit, built for the D-Day group build here on BM - just to have some of the bad guys there too It was built OOB, i did only cut the wings control surfaces and added some wires here and there. The camo option is based on drawing provided by "Cpt_Farrel" (thank you once again ). There were few problems during the build, mainly in the painting phase as i still do not have any big experiences with painting the mottling scheme. For smoke trails i wanted to use tamiya smoke, but the result was not good (+ it was shinning like dogĀ“s balls.. ladies forgive me.. ), so i went over with much thinned mix of tamiya brown-red and nato black. That was working a lot better, but i had to cover the previous layers of smoke, so the final trail is quite huge. Though, there are images showing smoke trails big like that sometimes The full WIP if anyone is interested (nothing special there though ) http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234966356-2x-bf-109g-6-172-jg3-and-raf-captured-jg3-finished-new-close-shots/ Here are few shots then The first serie of shots was taken inside, it still has slight shine on the smoke trail.. And by the way, the base is not homemade, i bought that online for my future project. One day i ll learn to make one myself, but untill then, this ll do the job for me The following images shows some closer shots outside on day light (also the smoke trails were oversprayed with matt varnish mixed with darker brown and in the end i took some black and brown pigments to it, to bring down the shine a bit). Thanks for watching guys It is not my best kit for sure, but i did practice something new tome again . Aaaand next time i wont paint the antena wire (made from the fishing line) with black, some grey shade would do better job i guess
  22. Dear Fellow Modellers I hope you find this aircraft a suitable topic for Britmodel?? This is one of the new AZ model releases in their HQ standard mold. They make excellent kits but you need to ditch the canopy and replace with a Falcon vac-form and at least in my case get yourself Quickboost resin exhausts. The markings are for 132 Sq at Detling flown by Flt .Lt. Sumpter thanks to Xtradecal. My favourite anecdote about the MkIX was from Pierre Clostermann who to escape 2 FW190s bent on his destruction put his MkIX into a corkscrewing climb knowing that above 20,000' his 2-stage Merlin would kick in and effectively save his life! Regards Andrew
  23. AZ Model is to release two 1/72nd Focke-Wulf Fw.190D kits - ref. AZ7482 & AZ7483 Ref. AZ7482 - Focke-Wulf Fw.190D-11 Source: http://www.azmodel.cz/product_info.php?products_id=745 Ref. AZ7483 - Focke-Wulf Fw.190D-13 Source: http://www.azmodel.cz/product_info.php?products_id=746 V.P.
  24. Hope you dont mind guys if i start another topic here, this time with AZ Model Spitfire IXc. Bought this in duo pack, with IDF/REAF decals. As i m building just one of the kit, it is low enough under the 10 limit I chosed to finish this in IDF version. In the kit there are two quite interesting IDF options, both spits have many panels "cannibalized" from other spits, so while most of the surface is in some kind of olive green, you can see there panels with desert camo or even left in bare metal. That should make the look somehow interesting, together with the marking being made mostly by chalk from hand. I ll do some research yet, trying to find out which panels were replaced and so, because as i saw around, some aftermarket decals have quite diferent paint scheme for the same aircrafts. But i think, if they were replacing the panels, it could vary by the time. I ll finish this purely OOB, just to have some rest while working on my mossie, so i ll work on this just at the free time. So not a single wire, not a single evergreen ll be wasted during this build! I m sure if i used just a little of these, i wouldnt stop... So, here goes quickly painted, washed and drybrushed cockpit. I tried to use oil paints for drybrush (trying to drybrush with acrylic tamiya/italeri paints drives me crazy.. the brush is literaly dry in few seconds doesnt matter what you do! ), buti have just like 5 colours here so it was not best.. Also tried to use the oil paints for seat, to simulate the laminated surface. For the back of the seat i used dark green, i saw some of the late spits used some overlay for that. I did also blind the exhaust openings a bit, the exhausts should be glued from outside but i was scared i would drop it inside later..
  25. Hey guys, i finished this kit as part of the tenner GB here on BM. The goal was to build this OOB and practice some new techniques and paints on it, which as usualy (at least for me) led to not as clean build as it should.. i just have to learn to focus on OOB kits too Anyway, to the kit - the kit is not so bad, but it has some catches. Two worst for me were the canopy and decals (both tooooo thick, ll replace these on my next AZ spits with aftermarket). The marking is one of very first IDF spitfires with C wing, which was finished and painted mostly by green primer, but some panels were taken from wrecks and other spitfires. I wanted to make the extra panels looking diferent and more or less aged. I tried to make the exhaust stains with airbrush by hand, using much much thinned vallejo air black colour with drop of brown and white. Obviously i need a lot more practice in the airbrush handling For those interested, the WIP thread can be found here (though nothing special as it was mostly OOB realy ) http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234956074-spitfire-mkixc-idf-172-az-model/ So, here are some shots, any recomendation or tips or comments are more than welcome guys
