As a result of the close-down of the UK by the British Government last night, we have made all the Buy/Sell areas read-only until we open back up again, so please have a look at the announcement linked here.

  1. if it's your birthday and you're posting on the forum, we've just installed a little tweak that will/should show everyone you just survived a year without doing anything terminally stupid or dangerous, with a little cake motif next to your username when you post. It'll make it easier for your chums to wish you a and even encourage people you don't know so well to congratulate you If it's your birthday today, firstly and if you could post in this thread to confirm if it works, I'll be grateful
  2. I don't know if any of you have noticed yet, or had cause to visit their website, but it is currently offline while they concentrate on the F-14, after the launch of which they will be doing a new site with a new host. Your browser may throw up a warning that it's an "Attack Site" as they're prone to doing in order to scare the bejeezus out of you and confirm you spent your money well on your anti-malware software, but there's nothing to worry about. If you were brave enough to click past the warning (which I did on my phone), all you get is a default website homepage advertising some software. That said, there's no point in you clicking past the warning because there's no AMK content there, so I'd just wait a wee while until they're done with the upgrade.
  3. There's a minor update to the forum software pending that should hopefully clear up some of the bugs and annoyances with the forum for us. I'm going to perform this upgrade shortly, so don't be surprised if the forum returns an error, or goes offline for a short time. It's only a maintenance release, so it shouldn't take long, with a prevailing wind As usual with these things, we may have a little twitchiness to deal with after the update, so please bear with us while we bed it in
  4. Having just come off the phone with Neil at AIM72 ( @tnuag), we're please to advise that they are back in the fold, and that diplomatic relations have been established. Neil will be popping in to keep us updated about their new products, which he tells me there are some rather interesting ones coming in the not-too-distant future. I hope he finds the new forum software as easy to use as the rest of you have, and hopefully my "mention" in the blue box above should drop in his inbox in due course. This dove-tails nicely with an idea that has been buzzing around in the Mod area that I'll tell you all about later, once I've spoken with Neil about it. Watch this space As always, their products can be purchased from Hannants, who are their sole resellers.
  5. We've just had notification that a patch is needed to our server's operating system to eliminate a security vulnerability that frankly, I can't see ever being exploited, as it requires the hacker to be next to the box, but we should do anyway. I've given support permission to go ahead, so when we hit the top of the queue, they will do the work and then reboot the server so that everything takes effect. So if you're posting anything important this evening, don't do it live on the site, or keep copying and pasting it somewhere on your PC as you go on. Just in case the server reboots while you're doing it and you lose all your pearls of wisdom. it's Operating System related, so shouldn't affect how the site responds, which is nice
  6. We've just received notification that there's a new update available for the forum to iron out some bugs, add a few new features, and improve speed in places, so we'll be applying this in the next couple of days. If you get a message telling you we're doing some essential maintenance, that'll be what it is. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to carry out, but I want to check something before we go ahead, as our board is a big'un, and they demand a little more care when upgrading than smaller boards. Once we've got the answers we need, we'll be pushing forward to see whether some of our pet peeves have been addressed yet
  7. Dearest Gmail users. This might be old news to you, but if you don't add an exception to your Gmail service's Spam service, our emails to you will end up lounging in your Spam folder, and you'll be thinking you haven't received them. You have two options. Check your Spam folder regularly, just in case, or add an exception for @britmodeller.com in your Spam rules. To do that, you can read their How-To on Gmail's Help pages here. If you're not on Gmail and you're also finding our emails in Spam, you can probably do something similar with your email service too
  8. I'm uploading some new files to the server presently, so be aware that if you happen to catch it mid-upload, you'll get some kind of error message. Also, don't post anything super-important for the next 30 minutes unless you've copied and pasted your hard work to the clipboard before you hit POST. If you're not sure what to do, click in your posting window, press CTRL+A to highlight all, then CTRL+C to copy it. Then go into word or wordpad and press CTRL+V to drop it into a document until you're sure it's posted Bear with us Mike.
  9. The delightful IT folks at Yahoo and a few other companies have been blocking our emails that are sent from britmodeller.com for no apparent reason, and we're being somewhat inconvenienced by it, as are the members. If you aren't getting emails telling you about messages from other members, or topics you subscribe to, find out where you put in a complaint to, and tell them that Britmodeller shouldn't be blocked. It's in your own interests to do so to get your notifications and so you can retrieve your password if you forget it, but our efforts to get unblocked with them have as yet met with no success. If enough of you complain, maybe they'll actually do something about it! Please don't rely on others to do it, send one yourself and become one of many that help us get better connections with our members.
  10. Bear with us during the next 20 minutes or so while we carry out some essential maintenance
