  1. The orange Canberras operated in Germany were a pretty common sight at British airshows in the 80s - I remember seeing them at Fairford. I'll be building an AMP 1/72 Canberra B.2 in this scheme, using a Model Alliance decal sheet I've had in the stash for ages. Here's the kit and decal sheet: I'll get started soon.
  2. Following my "Anti-grav Assault Ekranoplan" build, I'm finishing 2023 with something just a little-less science fiction-ish: AMP's 1/72 kit of the North American Lenticular Reentry Vehicle (L.R.V.) concept. A space-based, nuclear-warhead delivery design from the Cold War: The LRV was designed to carry a crew of four with mission duration of up to six weeks. For more information, see this brief article from Popular Mechanics: https://books.google.com/books?id=MxXlKb9wIe0C&pg=PA66&source=gbs_toc_r&cad=2#v=onepage&q&f=false The kit's saucer-shaped fuselage consists of top and bottom sections. The top is made up of forward and rear parts, while the bottom is split lengthwise into two parts. The four main fuselage parts come together with butt-joins, so a lot of dry fitting and shimming is needed, as well as addition of reinforcing plastic to strengthen the joints. The cockpit section doubled as an escape pod. AMP provides a fair amount of detail for the cockpit, most of which I ignored because of the very limited visibility through the forward windscreen: Only one missile is included with the kit, leaving the rear missile bay a dark void. I scratchbuilt a couple of extra missiles to help fill the emptiness: That's enough for the in-process pics! Let me show you how she turned out . . . . This is about all that can be seen of the cockpit interior: I deviated from the kit instructions by attaching the missiles facing forwards. There are good technical reasons for why the concept design has them reversed, but my sense of aesthetics won out over engineering principles! Just so there's no question about what this doomsday machine's mission would have been, I added a satellite photo of Moscow to my homemade base: Finally, a few shots of the LRV in its natural environment: All-in-all, the kit builds up nicely but requires a lot of care during assembly. Definitely not for an inexperienced modeler! Thanks for viewing, and Happy New Year to all! - Bill p.s. Here's a short video for your enjoyment!
