  1. With the HFB-320 progressing quickly I think it's time to start another build - the AMP DC-9-41 in 1/144. I think this was originally an Eastern Express kit, although I don't think EE released a DC-9-41 so it must either be a stretch of the EE -30 series or something that was in the works and has been picked up by AMP. Here's the kit, and the Lima November decals I'll be using: I've wasted no time and got cracking. There's a complete cockpit in the kit but I'll be using window decals, so I've skipped that stage. Annoyingly this is one of those kits where the nose undercarriage has to go in before the fuselage is assembled - inside the wheel well there's some detail and it's designed to be fairly faithful to the original, rather than a good old-fashioned undercarriage leg that goes into the roof of the well - which is absolutely pointless in this case as none of that detail is at all visible. Anyway, the fuselage is together already: more soon Julian
  2. I'm going to build the AMP 1/144 kit of NASA's Boeing 747SP flying observatory 'SOFIA' (Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy). SOFIA was a highly modified ex-United Airlines 747SP with a large telescope added to the rear fuselage. Here's the kit: It's the ex-Eastern Express 747SP (which was also tooled in Ukraine) with a new fuselage and new sprues for the telescope and the cavity it sits in. Quite a nice looking decal sheet although it's a shame there's no windscreen decal, and it would have been helpful if they'd given us a separate blue stripe for the bit of the cheat line that goes over the door. There are also vinyl masks and a couple of 3D printed components for the telescope. Also available at a much more reasonable price than the Eastern Express kits ever were! I'll be building it with the door open and the telescope on show - it would be a waste not to. I've made a start - assembled the cockpit parts and cleaned up the fuselage - I'll post photos when I've made a little more progress. more soon Julian
  3. Here's my Boeing 747SP, built as NASA's SOFIA airborne observatory, using the AMP 1/144 kit, just completed in the Made In Ukraine group build. The build thread is here. The kit is the Eastern Express kit with a modified fuselage and additional parts for the telescope and associated doors, bulkheads and so on. There's also a bit of PE and pre-cut vinyl masks. It was a fun build but not without its problems - I've summarised them in the my last post in the build thread. thanks for looking Julian
  4. After finishing the Embraer 170 I was all set to crack on with the Xingu. Then the doorbell rang. And now I can't resist building this next: It's the newly released AMP 1/144 Dash 8 Q400 water bomber. Mostly the same plastic as the Eastern Express Q400 kit, which I built a year or two ago in another GB, with new parts for the belly tank and a nice looking decal sheet with multiple options for Conair aircraft operated in Canada, the US and Alaska, and two options for aircraft operated by Securite Civile in France. I'm probably going to need to build at least the Australian-based Conair aircraft, but will need another kit for that, because the Securite Civile aircraft are based at Nimes-Garons airport which is in the Occitanie region so fits the scope of this GB. Time to get cracking. More soon. Julian
