  1. Gorgeous kit oozes quality and the detail is excellent. Tempted to fork out for their Gato class or do a Guppy build. Still not very good with photo etch but getting there slowly
  2. Ok while having a long boring nightshift I have come up with an idea for a GB which could include almost everyone! A South Latin American GB Ok after lots of requests by everyone.....well Steve anyway, I had a think about this and decided to open it up to the rest of Latin America. This GB will now cover anything and everything South American "of the border", as long as it was used there or built there it’s ok. There should be a bit of something for everybody here with all forms of transport covered, both military and civilian, even the automotive crowd with Dakar bikes/cars/trucks So countries eligible; Argentina Bolivia Brazil Chile Colombia Costa Rica Cuba Dominican Republic Ecuador El Salvador Gaudeloupe Guatemala Guyana Haiti Honduras Mexico Nicaragua Panama Paraguay Peru Puerto Rico Suriname Uruguay Venezuela Plus French Guiana Falkland Islands Martinique Saint Barthelemy Saint Martin The are some amazing and interesting subjects available which you wouldn't normally see or think about.....so what do you think? A Lista (the list) 1, trickyrich - host 2, Threadbear 3, MAD STEVE 4, Arniec 5, wyverns4 - co-host 6, Max Headroom 7, Jörgen Stendahl 8, nimrod54 9, Moggy 10, Mish 11, CliffB 12, Col 13, hgbn 14, feoffee2 15, Radleigh 16, Old Man 17, Centollaman 18, somtec 19, modelling minion 20, SleeperService
  3. This is my first entry for my very first Britmodeller AFV build which will be built OOB with maybe some scratch refinements. As I have said in the build up I have only ever built two AFV's and one of these (1/76 Airfix King Tiger) is languishing in it's box awaiting completion, when I can decide how best to tackle the vinyl tracks. Here are the box and sprue shots This is the only reference I have so I am looking for any advice from the expert Russian heavy tank builders out there amongst you, along with any hints and tips that I can try plus anything else I can find on t'internet. I'll see how I get on with this before deciding on the second build I would like to do for this GB. Just as an aside and to go off topic a little, here are a few photos of my only completed tank build to date - the Revell 1/72 T-72 in DDR colours fresh off the parade ground. Thanks for looking
  4. Hello, here is another build from my 1/72 tank collection, was my second (new) one. Right after the Revell T-72. Done before new years eve 2013/14. This is an older kit, released under the Matchbox and Monogram label as well, its more on the crude side by todays standart, but fun to build. The parts needed some clean up, especially the snorkel and the small stuff, some sinkholes had to be filled. Made some additions to the otherwise oob build. The headlights got "guards" over, done by stretched sprue The front skirt, seen on these tanks were made by thin plastic card The turret was improved with an additional smoke grenade launcher, some "wires" seen on pics and the small handlight looking aft at the back of the turret were added. The fuel drums were altered to remove the big seam running through them. The holes at the back plate/engine deck were closed and the "log" was added using a sprue. Painted with Revell colors and weathered with acrylics and some drybrushing. the sand color was sprayed on, the green was brushed on. Maybe i am able to replace the "8,8 flak gun" with a more true to scale replica of the anti aircraft mgs seen on russian or soviet tanks. Not much time for modelling right now, but this was a beautiful day with good light conditions outside. Hope you like it Bernd
  5. Building and creating a loaded dragon wagon, what colour is best for the tyres, prefer tamiya paint for this. Also building oob and in parts I will be able to post to Bahrain, to meet me at my next ship, to continue building and painting in an attempt to finish in 2 months
  6. Painting Guide For AFV of WWII and Modern Era Jose Luis Lopez Ruiz - Casemate UK It has been a while since this reviewer switched from AFV modelling to aircraft. I found I could never really achieve the results I wanted, and this was in those pre-internet days of long ago. I do wish there had been books like this then. The book is what I would describe as medium/large format in an A-4 portrait sized book with a soft cover. There are 82 high quality pages. The printing is excellent through out, with clear text and great photographs illustrating the various techniques. Jose Luis Lopez Ruiz is a world renowned Spanish modeller who is a major contributor to The Steelmaster Magazine. He is a very talented modeller who has spent years developing his own techniques. In this publication we are introduced to his "Black & White" technique which has to be seen to be believed. As well as explaining the "Black & White" technique the book covers; Primers Layering Paints (Enamel & Acrylic) Washes Varnishes Pigments Primers The second half of the book then show cases five builds from WWII and the modern era to demonstrate the techniques discussed earlier. The photographs are clear and the text is concise. A gallery of completed models completes the book. Conclusion This is a great learning guide from a top class modeller. While you might not stick to one specific technique as shown, the book provokes thought as to how the individual modeller might make use of the techniques on show to finish their own model. Highly recommended, it might even spark the reviewer into making AFVs again! Review sample courtesy of
  7. My latest one, AFV club's quarter scale RF-5E Tigereye in RoC AF livery. Built mostly OOB with only a bang seat replacement from QB. Pianted with MM LGG, with patches in Tamiya XF-66 which were subsequnetly covered with a mist of MM LGG to get that - there not there effect of the camo. OOB decals, which were a bit on the thick side , but boiling water and micro set / sol took care of them. Well enough rambling, here we go [/url Thanks for looking and Holiday Greetings,
  8. Just seen these 1:144 tanks on the HLJ site and they are due this out this month. Nice little tanks in resin. There's also some Dutch/Belgian, Romanian and Italian sets; plus a motor torpedo boat Mike
  9. While trying to pass the time on shift I just happened to think about another possible group build, which is bound to have some interesting and very colourful subject matter, an Italian Air force Group Build. The Italians have produced some wonderful and very colourful aircraft over the years, from the early flying boats of WW I and the 20s, the interesting and varied aircraft of WW II. Plus the modern stuff is well catered for as well. There are a good range of Italian aircraft and aircraft operated by the Italian air force so subject matter should be too hard to find. Though if numbers dictate it could be expanded to all military equipment, civilian, or only to WW I to WW II aircraft, just depends on number and interest. Even have something already in mind, have a Flashback (Classic Airframes) 1/48th Savoia Marchetti SM.79 Im just dying to build. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok Ive started a list so we can get an idea whos interested and the numbers so far. Here we go; 1/ trickyrich (me guess Ill be the host with the most!) 2/ Giorgio N co-host 3/ Lex77 4/ Enzo Matrix 5/ Paul J 6/ John W 7/ usetherudders 8/ Alpha Delta 210 9/ PaulR 10/ Radleigh 11/ Wez 12/ Paolo6691 13/ Jockney 14/ wellzy 15/ vppelt68 16/ Arniec 17/ SimonR 18/ Sgt. Fingers and toes crossed this gets up!
  10. ok this is something a bit different and could be cherry buster for some! I know there are quite a few twisted soles out there who like to dabble in resin, or just like to sniff it! So how about a 100% (ok not counting PE and white metal bit) resin build? These lots of choice available out there plus plenty can be had quite cheaply on EvilBay. There are probably heaps of members out there sitting on resin just waiting for the right time, plus probably lots of curious members wanting to know what the fuss is all about. So why not have an open build for whatever you have stashed away or whatever you can get your sticky mitts on to show the world we're not really crazy cellar dwellers that crave filling and sanding, no more bubbles and more filling and more sanding and sanding and more filling and lots resin dust........opps thats me! Have my eye on a super cool 1/48th Ju-388J Nightfighter......of cause! and yes i'm a resin fiend! -------------------------------------------- Ok Ive started a list so we can get an idea whos interested and the numbers so far. 11. Just been trying to fill in time on shift and came up with an interesting idea for another group build…….though resin one has to be first. During the Cold War and especially at its peak East and West Germany would be the great meeting ground for NATO and Warsaw Pact, with the most likely spot being the “Fulda Gap”! The Fulda Gap was the hypothetical ideal strike point for Soviet forces to strike deep into West Germany and towards the Rhine. This area was smooth and flat which was ideal for swift mechanize warfare and would provide a chance to split the NATO forces in half. With the 72/73 time frame it was an era just prior to the NATO forces moving to the weaponry more commonly seen now. Around that time the “heavy metal” weapon systems of the late 60’s were still at the fore front of both forces. In the air you had the classic F-4’s, F-104’s, Lightning’s, and Mirage 5’s facing off against Mig-21/23’s, Su-15’s and the new “King of the Hill” the Mig-25. Strike aircraft Harrier’s, Jaguar’s, Buccaneer’s, A-7’s, Mirage F1’s, and the new F-111’s while the Soviet forces had Su-11/17/20’s, Mig-21/23’s. On the ground you had Chieftain’s, Leopard 1’s,AMX-30’s, M60’s, Scorpion’s, and M-113’s facing off against T-64’s, T-72’s, BMD-1’s, and BMP-1’s. These would have been just the main protagonists in conflict of this scale, with a conflict broadening a little the Viggen, Drakens, and S-Tanks become eligible to name a couple. I know there will be a few who are a bit sad they can’t bring their early Tonka’s, Eagles, Falcons, A-10’s along, but that would be too easy. With a build like this the choice of subject matter is quite large and there’s bound to be some all time favorites in this list, F-4E’s for me! Just wanted to throw another idea into the hat to see what people think, can either be an all inclusive air/ground GB, or could just be broken up into separate air and ground GB’s if the numbers are there. RESIN RESIN RESIN!!!
  12. Hi all, This is my Xmas project for while I'm in kent with the folks. The AFV Club Churchill mk IV with Lionmarc late turret. Pete
  13. Norman Street 1:35 MiniArt A new release from their diorama range, this is a vacform and styrene multi-media kit that includes some rather colourful posters and shop headings into the bargain. The kit arrives in a large single-engined fighter kit-sized box, and has quite some weight in it. Inside are four large sheets of vacformed styrene and four more of injection moulded styrene, plus the instruction booklet, which has the posters and shop banners printed on the back page. If you're new to vacformed kits, or could do with some help, you will do well to visit John Adams (of Aeroclub fame) complete "how to" document here for enlightenment. The parts are all well-defined within the backing sheet, so scoring and cutting them accurately shouldn't be a problem, and once the excess styrene is sanded away, the parts will butt-fit together, which will be much improved if you add some alignment tabs from scrap styrene here and there. The kit builds up into two shop-fronts, based on a cobbled street, in the style of the architecture prevalent in Normandy in WWII. The kit includes the basic interiors, being double-skinned, so there is plenty of scope for decorating the insides of the building with furniture and personal effects. A full set of window frames and doors are included with the injection moulded sprues, but you'll be responsible for installing any glass that you would like present in the finished article. Shutters, guttering and even some wrought-iron railings are also included to allow some personalisation of the finished article, and when it comes to distressing the parts the world is your oyster. The base is predominantly block paved, with the pavement differentiated by a herring-bone pattern to the blocks, although it would benefit from being raised too, unless this isn't typical of the time. The buildings have tiled and wooden ground floors, with wooden upper floors to the two storeys above ground-level, and the whole thing is topped off by tiled and slated roofs, which have injection moulded end caps to finish them off. Installation of the guttering isn't documented in the instructions, and from looking at it, there probably wouldn't be sufficient to deck out the whole diorama, but it could find use in the rubble or debris if you choose to add some. The posters and shop fronts are well printed in full-colour on glossy paper, which should be thin enough for most purposes. They just need cutting out and gluing on the background, and would benefit from a coat of matt or satin varnish to tone down the gloss. There should be plenty of spares for future projects too, as there are ten posters in addition to the two shop-fronts, and four small signposts. Conclusion As with all of this excellent range of "boil-in-the-bag" dioramas, it will take a little work and some very careful painting, but the time saving over scratch building a similar diorama makes it a very worthwhile project. Inclusion of the fixtures and fittings adds further value, and as usual the moulding, both injection and vacuum, is of a high standard. Put aside your fear of vacforms and give one a whirl - you'll be surprised how easily they go together. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
