  1. My first build for this GB, this Matchbox A-20G Douglas Havoc. Originating from an exchange that I did at Jet Age. Photo of parts tomorrow, but the decals are mandating the USAAF version, Just look at those Frence roundels! I've built this kit 3 times previously, so anticipating a quick trouble free build.
  2. I was doing research on A-20's as I do and came across an anomaly, the famous A-20G 43-9224 'La France Libre" marked on every model and decal sheet and in books as 5H-E of the 668th BS should in fact be F6-E of the 670th BS, all reference material refer to it as 5H-E of the 668th BS 416 BG , except the 416th BG web page and mission logs they refer to it as F6-E of the 670th BS, amazing how literally everything else has a different Sqn ID to the the web page of the actual unit that operated it. Does anyone have an actual photo of the side with Sqn codes and serial to confirm . I find it interesting that such a historically significant aircraft has been misidentified for so long in so many mediums, models , decals, books. Text from 670th history sheets 24 Oct 44. Technical Sergeant Everts' A-20 Havoc #224, "Miss Laid", was first in the ETO to complete one-hundred missions. Never once during these one-hundred missions was the plane forced to return because of mechanical failure. The original engines that powered "Miss Laid" on the first mission on 3 March 1944 against an enemy held airdrome at Poix, France were still in use on the 100th mission, never having been changed. The 100th mission was an attack on the Duren marshalling yards on 6 October 1944. Old "Miss Laid" was repainted and renamed "La France Libre" and dedicated to represent the unity and good will between our country and the new French nation. Captain Monroe, and Staff Sergeants Kidd and Risko, who had flown 224 on its first mission, and most of the one-hundred missions, took part in the ceremony. Technical Sergeant Royal S. Everts, crew chief, who had cared for the plane through its 100 missions and was primarily responsible for its remarkable record, also participated. The ceremony was attended by French and American dignitaries. MMe Monique Rolland, the beautiful French actress, christianed "La France Libre". Brigadier General Strahm, Ninth Air Force Chief of Staff, dedicated the planes's future missions to the French Nation and People. General Martial Valin, Commanding General of the French Air Force, and Charles Tillon, French Minister of Air, accepted the dedication for the French people and spoke over a world hook-up, speaking of the ceremony as a "symbol of the fraternity of our two nations." General Duncan, General Backus, and Colonel Aylesworth also participated in the ceremony.(See Exhibits attached.).
  3. Hi comrades! Here is my take on AMT kit. Despite the kit's age, it was a pleasant build. Aftermarket used: Foxbot decals (excellent!) Eduard brass (intermediate, not everything helpful) True detail resin wheels and rescue inflatable boat - (nice) Montex masks for canopy and standard markings (excellent) Quickboost engines, cowlings and browning's - (good, but engines were additionally wired ) Scratchbuilt: engines wiring, wheel wells wiring, wings navigation lights, tail light enhanced. Thanks for looking The build is here
  4. Hi Comrades! My recent build is old but good AMT A-20G. This is original boxing. I will replace decals with Foxbot ones. Additions includes Eduard brass (interior and exterior, partly useful), True details wheels, Montex masks and Quickboost engines and cowlings. So far I assembled fuselage halves with some scratch additions, corrected the wing root profiles for better fit, and finished wheel wells and cockpit with some brass and scratch. The only problematic places are on gondola to upper wings connection. No major problems so far. Thanks for looking!
  5. Hi Comrades! I'm build now A-20G bomber of 388BS, 312 BG based on Philippines, Summer 1945. From my knowledge, the upper camouflage consisted of Medium Green "waves" over olive drab on wings and tail surfaces. But on the photo of my prototype appears that it's uniform (but non-uniformly faded) olive drab only... Is it possible that late war A-20's were camouflaged (upside) only with OD? Thanks in advance!
  6. Hi all, I want to continue a series of models of American aircraft of World War II that I post on this site. This time it will be A-20G “Havoc” from Italery. This model was made in the spring of 2012. I used a set of machine guns and engines from Vector, decals from Zot `s, a set of wheels from True details, photo-etched from Eduard and Airwaves. Model is going pretty bad, I had to put spacers in the fuselage and wings, and all the joints had to be covered with putty. In addition I want to draw attention to a set of photo-etched Eduard 48127. If not to cut parts details 5/11 and 9/10 it will be impossible to assemble nacelles, otherwise these parts rest on the chassis components. I modified the landing gear, cockpit, engines, extended nose landing gear, made onboard navigation lights. The model was rescribed (surface quality initially very poor, not straight joints of panels)and rivets were made. I used scriber and riveting tool from RB production. Great Mountable! I hung bazooka under the wings, as I saw on one of the photos. I know that the prototype did not have them, but I really liked how the plane looks with them. The model was painted with Tamiya paints. Aircraft “Sweet Li `l kitten” of 388 Bombardment Squadron, based at the 1944th year Gusap airport, which is in Papua New Guinea served as the prototype. Attaching a couple of photos of the build process. Regards Ivan
