This is far from being the perfect Sea Vixen kit but the options are limited until a better one comes along. I modified the nose and printed the serial numbers myself. The real aircraft is now at the FAA Museum Yeovilton and has been fitted with a standard nose. Thanks for looking. Steve

This is the Special Hobby Meteor T7 with an Aeroclub camera nose and home made decals for a test aircraft from the A&AEE Boscombe Down. The stripes on the intakes and belly tank seem to have been very short-lived as most photos don't show them - I bet they were as much fun to paint on the real thing as they were for me! 9 Steve

The Phantom FG.1 pre production airframe XT597 (currently for sale at Everett Aero) was used by the A&AEE from 'birth' until retirement. She conducted the sea trials on the USS Saratoga and later went on to clear weaponry and systems before squadron service. By 1982 she had acquired some FGR.2 outer wing panels, a Doppler 72 radar panel under the nose and an air of scruffiness about her in the pictures I can see. Having the Hasegawa 1:48 FG.1 kit and the extra correct nose for XT597 but no decals left me with a odd spare part until I got ahold of the RAM Models Early British Phantoms sheet. The tanks have Post Office red tips (This was a pure guess, but looks interesting) but are quite chipped and marked as by 1982 I figured the bulk of XT597's work would have been as a Tornado chase plane. For this reason I fitted an FGR.2 Strike camera in the port forward sparrow recess as it could have been used for taking film of the subject aircraft in flight. As I usually have three or four (or more!) builds on the go at the same time I'd like to do this one as well as the Sperrin. Gerald Elliott (Sanger) kit in 1/72 with my own decals for a Boscombe Down based aircraft. The canopy is yellowed (not quite as yellow as the paper!) and has a lump in it so I may have to mould a new one, apart from that it looks like a fairly straightforward vacform build. Steve

Nice quick and easy build of the Special Hobby Sea Balliol as the aircraft on display at Cosford. I originally drew and printed my own decals to use on a Pegasus Balliol kit I had in the stash but left it there after getting this kit for about half price at a show last year. Painted with Halfords Nissan Silver and Xtracolor dayglo, with a matt varnish after decalling. Steve

Hi Has anyone any recent experience with decals from ZTS Plastyk Javelin kits.
