  1. Subject to approval from @Col. my second model for the Asia GB is going to be a China Southern Airlines A320 using the Revell kit and 8A Decs decals. To my eyes China Southern’s two tone blue, red and gold livery is one of the most attractive Asian airline colour schemes. Whether I’ll manage to finish the model by the end of November remains to be seen but I’ll give it my best shot. The subject of the model is B-6263, a CFM powered A320-200 which was delivered new to China Southern in 2006 and remained in service until 2023. She is now with Air Canada as C-FCUG. The Revell A320 CEO seems to have been around since dinosaurs roamed the planet. By the time of the final (Ethiad) production run in 2016 the moulds were in a woeful state and the kit had become little more than a box of flash with a few vaguely A320-ish bits attached. Luckily I still have a a couple of older examples in my stash so I have liberated a Thomas Cook kit dating from 2003. Box shot: Contents: Decals: There are no window transparencies apart from the cockpit so the first job is to fill the windows with a “sausage” of Milliput applied on the inside, pushed down into the openings and gently squashed on the outside. Once this is set I’ll close up the fuselage and get the project properly under way. Dave G
  2. Here is the CRM (ex-Eastern Express) A220-300 finished as F-HZUA “Le Bourget” of Air France at the time of delivery in 2021. I know Air France don’t have world’s most exciting airline livery but I wanted to include the current scheme in my European flag carriers project and I also wanted to add an A220 to my collection so it seemed logical to combine the two. I have never been a fan of Eastern Express products following an early encounter with their ghastly A318 and also because of their ridiculous prices. However their A220s are the only game in town and the general consensus seemed to be that they were actually pretty good so when CRM offered the -300 kit at a very reasonable price I decided to give it a go. The kit is a bit of a mixed bag. Detail is OK although the panel lines on the fuselage were inconsistent in their depth and I eventually filled most of them. Some of the fit is indifferent to say the least. In my kit the upper wings were a bit warped and careful work with hot water and a hairdryer was needed to straighten them out. I replaced the kit engine fans and outlet guide vanes with CRM’s resin parts. Like most 3D printed fans it’s difficult to remove them from the frame without damage and I strongly recommend viewing the tutorial on CRM’s website. Once you get them off the frame the CRM parts are definitely worth the cost and effort and allow a realistic “see through” which the kit parts don’t. The radome bump is an adapted BraZ item. (Typically, just after I had started painting the model I discovered that Rocast make the correct Gogo 2KU radome). Painting is nice and easy - overall Halfords Appliance Gloss White with Revell and Tamiya metallics. Livery decals are by 8A supplemented by the excellent (if pricey) detail sheet from Authentic Airliners. I had to lop a bit off the top of the fin decal which was too big but otherwise they went on well. I initially used the 8A cockpit windscreen to give a common appearance with the cabin windows but the more I looked at it the more I became convinced it was too big. Eventually I removed it and replaced it with the AA one which also meant removing and relocating the AF roundels ahead of the front doors. The only spare roundels I could find came from an old F-RSIN Viscount sheet. They aren’t 100% accurate but they’re close enough and a better option than ordering a second decal sheet from Mexico! Thanks for looking and constructive criticism is welcome. Dave G
  3. I present my Revell Airbus A321neo in the Hawaiian livery N202HA. Pualani looks truly stunning on this striking livery, with a vibrant blend of colour, it truly is the ‘flower of the sky’. This lovely bird is powered by the Pratt & Whitney PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, and with Airbus’s latest aerodynamics it makes the A321neo one of the most fuel efficient aircraft in the series. They are used on routes from the Hawaiian Islands to the West coast of the USA in a 2 class configuration with its ETOPS rating. The build was OOB with the decals coming from Jon at 8A Decals and Authentic Airliners. The Revell A321neo kit is excellent, and I like the changes they have made to the original A321 kit. With the cockpit canopy, it helps provide a better fit and is a lot less fiddlier, the etching detailing is a lot more detailed as well, and the 3D door skirts is a nice feature. The wing box assembly is also very similar to the Zvezda Airbus kits, and this also helps to eliminate the need for trimming, fitting and adjusting as required. I also like the new way of attaching the horizontal stabilisers, it helps to provide a much better and cleaner fit all round. The kit comes with both the Pratt & Whitney GTF and the CFM Leap engine options, and also 3 different satcom antennas (although Hawaiian doesn’t have one on their current A321neo fleet). The paints used were Halfords Appliance White for the fuselage & Engine Nacelles, Holts Grey for the Wings and stabs and my own blend of Revell Aqua 374 for the coroguard. The metals and tyres are a mix of Revell Aqua colours. The decals are truly stunning with a high attention to detail, and very vibrant colours. They fit excellently to the model, and really help to bring this ship to life. The Revell kit decals are as excellent as usual from Daco. I think this may be one of my favourite models I’ve made, and it’s inspiring me to build more of the Neo kits. As always thank you for looking and all comments and constructive feedback are always welcome. Regards, Alistair
  4. I present my Revell Boeing 777-300ER in ANA’s Star Wars BB-8 livery JA789A. This is a really cool scheme, along with the other Star Wars adorned jets. I read that not only is the exterior painted to depict a particular character from the movie series, but it also continues the theme inside with items such as headrest covers and napkins portraying the characters. The build was a simple OOB, with the after market decals purchased from Jon at 8A Decals. The build was straight forward enough, and easy to complete. I have the Zvezda 773 also, which is going to go in to Eva Air’s ‘Hello Kitty’ scheme. The paints I used was Halfords Appliance White for the fuselage, Halfords Racking Grey for the wings and horizontal stabilisers and engine nacelles & pylons and various Revell Aqua colours for the metals and tyres. The decals were fun to apply... it was an intricate job, and I haven’t got it completely perfect, but like anything, it’s all a learning curve. I love how well the decals apply to the aircraft and conform to a ‘painted on’ look once set. Overall I enjoyed this build, and I am encouraged to build the 787 R2-D2 possibly in the future. I have a lot of exciting projects to do this year, I am currently working on a Norwegian Air B787-9. I look forward to sharing them with you in the future 😃. As always, thank you for looking and any comments and constructive feedback is always welcomed. Regards, Alistair
  5. I present the Revell A321 in the current colours of Iberia. Apart from replacement winglets and a few small details the build is OOB. I have an ongoing, very long term project to build at least one aircraft from each of the current and former European national carriers and I had intended to finish the A321 in the classic Alitalia green stripe livery. Unfortunately when the F-DCAL decals eventually arrived they turned out to be completely the wrong shade of green, so much so that I considered them unusable. A search on the net failed to find an alternative source of decals for that livery but I noticed that 8A Decs had the new Iberia scheme for the A321. Iberia was also on my national carriers “to do” list so off went my order and it took a lot less time for the 8A decals to arrive from Mexico than the F-DCAL ones had taken from France. The decals went on well. They needed a bit of trimming around the tail, especially at the base of the fin, and a little adjustment around the rear doors but other than that there were no major fit issues. My only criticisms are the slightly over scale aircraft names and the omission of the nose gear door registrations neither being the end of the world. Stencils and detail decals including wing coroguard and replacement nose gear registrations came from the spares box and Authentic Airliners windows completed the ensemble. Paint is Halfords Appliance White and Holts HL Grey01 with Tamiya and Revell metallics. Although the model didn’t end up as I had planned, I like the new Iberia livery and I think it suits the A321. I might be in a minority of one but I actually prefer it to the previous red, orange and yellow stripe scheme. Thanks for looking and as always constructive criticism is welcome. Dave G
