  1. Good evening everyone! I hope you're all keeping well? After almost 5 weeks of work (and more money than I should probably admit to) I've finally completed my rendition of an American Airlines Boeing 777-300ER in 1:144 scale: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I could write a lot about this build (and I have on the Work in Progress thread), but I shall try and keep it relatively short and sweet. Just over a year ago I took my first flight, in an attempt to get over my fear of both flying and heights. In the space of 2 weeks I'd been on 6 flights and it was on the 7th flight that I had the pleasure of flying on the Boeing 777. We were originally supposed to fly back with British Airways but delays caused by the weather meant we ended up catching an American Airlines flight the next day. The flight was incredible- there was very little turbulence, the views were unbeatable, the crew were friendly and the flight was empty (so plenty of opportunity to move around). The thing which captured my attention about the 777 was its size. It's comparatively gargantuan! Although we flew on a 777-223(ER), I didn't fancy modifying the Revell 1:144 -300ER kit dramatically- except for doing a bit of scratchbuilding and using Pas-Decals decals for the AA scheme. On that note, many of the lumps, bumps and antennae are placed as per the instruction sheet and are likely not 100% representative of where they are on the real thing. But despite this being my first airliner kit in a long while, and my first real attempt at using rattle cans, I really enjoyed this build. Look at the size of it! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So there we are then. The base is only temporary, as I'd like to have something a bit more structurally sound than a cardboard box, but hey it works. As I said previously, this build has been an immense amount of fun to work on and although I'm pleased with how it's come out, I am even more satisfied with the skills that I've had the chance to develop along the way. I had planned for this to be my last project prior to starting back at university (again!) but naturally the situation has since changed and I should be able to get away with commuting. The next project might just be a certain venerable workhorse that had (until recently) served with distinction as part of the British Airways fleet... Thank you so much for following along, and dropping by to have a look. See you on the next one! All the best, Sam
  2. I have always wanted to build a British Airways B777-200 model, but didn’t want to pay nearly £50 for a kit that I have heard has several issues with it. I thought I would take the plunge and leap in to my first attempt at a conversion. I have always been very apprehensive about the thought of picking up a saw and making cuts to the already pristine fuselage sections, so it played with my anxiety a bit. I purchased the Revell 777-300ER kit, my razor saw and sat there saying to myself, “I can do this”. I’d been given a few tips about how to convert the 777-300ER kit down to a -200. With the 777 having the same circumference fuselage all the way around, this helped with making the reassembly relatively straight forward enough. Here are the key points to note when converting the -300ER kit; -200F and 200LR = shorten the fuselage as per the guide, remove the tail skid and part off of the MLG. The larger GE90 engines supplied in the kit are used on both these variants. -200ER = shorten the fuselage as per the guide, remove the tail skid and part off of the MLG. The engines are either the smaller versions of the GE90 or RR Trent 800s which can be purchased from BraZ. You also need to remove the raked wing tips, and replace them with the BraZ ones. I have opted to build a B777-200ER which will be in the British Airways livery G-VIIB with the aftermarket GE94 engines. I will cover each stage of the process as I work through it and hopefully I cover everything. Regards, Alistair
  3. I present my Revell Boeing 777-300ER in ANA’s Star Wars BB-8 livery JA789A. This is a really cool scheme, along with the other Star Wars adorned jets. I read that not only is the exterior painted to depict a particular character from the movie series, but it also continues the theme inside with items such as headrest covers and napkins portraying the characters. The build was a simple OOB, with the after market decals purchased from Jon at 8A Decals. The build was straight forward enough, and easy to complete. I have the Zvezda 773 also, which is going to go in to Eva Air’s ‘Hello Kitty’ scheme. The paints I used was Halfords Appliance White for the fuselage, Halfords Racking Grey for the wings and horizontal stabilisers and engine nacelles & pylons and various Revell Aqua colours for the metals and tyres. The decals were fun to apply... it was an intricate job, and I haven’t got it completely perfect, but like anything, it’s all a learning curve. I love how well the decals apply to the aircraft and conform to a ‘painted on’ look once set. Overall I enjoyed this build, and I am encouraged to build the 787 R2-D2 possibly in the future. I have a lot of exciting projects to do this year, I am currently working on a Norwegian Air B787-9. I look forward to sharing them with you in the future 😃. As always, thank you for looking and any comments and constructive feedback is always welcomed. Regards, Alistair
  4. Hello everyone... Total noob to airliners and need to ask this. SWMBO is a huge "Hello kitty fan" and collects all things H/K. I've seen this airplane, https://www.istockphoto.com/photo/eva-air-boeing-777-300er-hello-kitty-airplane-taipei-taoyuan-air-gm499811910-80451915 twice this week at O'Hare airport in Chicago. Its an "Eva air" 777-300. Does anyone know of a decal set and a smallish model for me to build as a gift. Or maybe a 1/400 diecast ? Dennis
  5. Friends, I'm planning to make some headway on my Revell 777-300ER. I had started this kit months ago, but it sat shelved due to work and life priorities. I am also working on a Zvezda 767-300, and learned by working on that model that I absolutely will never again use the clear plastic styrene window pieces unless I'm trying to have the windows open. To that end I cracked open the 777, which I had already closed, and ripped out the clear styrene to be replaced with apoxie sculpt. Having left the apoxie to cure overnight, the plan this morning is to re-seal the fuselage and get it ready for primer. The ultimate objective on this one is B-KPL, a Cathay Pacific 777-300ER in the OneWorld scheme, and I hope to try a few new tricks that I've learned from the other modellers here. Thanks for taking a look!
  6. Apparently news of this has surfaced at Telford, although I haven't seen anything official yet. A re-box of the Zvezda kit with decals for KLM. Anyone seen any more? Cheers, Andrew
