  1. Boeing 757-200 Icelandair (7032) Zvezda 1:144 First flown in 1982 the Boeing 757 was designed as a replacement the to hugely successful 727 tri-jet. The initial version was the -200 as depicted in this kit, which entered service with Eastern Airlines on January 1st 1983. Designed to cruise at higher altitudes than the 727, the 757 was able to achieve up to 45% fuel saving over its predecessor. The later -300 version stretched the fuselage by 23 ft (7.1m) and entered service in 1999. It has served widely with Civil, Military, and Government/VIP operators, as both passenger and freight haulers. Offered with the Rolls-Royce RB-211 or Pratt & Whitney PW2000 engines, a total of 1,049 757's of all versions were delivered. After nearly 40 years of service it is becoming an increasingly rare sight in the skies. Since this kit was announced, it has been eagerly awaited by airliner modellers, and first impressions are that it was well worth the wait. It is presented in Zvezda's stout cardboard post-office resistant box, with an outer sleeve depicting an Icelandair 757 taking off. Slide the outer cover off and the box reveals a set of beautiful looking moulding in light grey plastic. Panel lines are lightly engraved, and details are razor sharp on all the finer elements such as engine fans and undercarriage legs. The fuselage features the 'lobe crease' along its length, but is difficult to photograph as it is so subtle. Construction starts with the cockpit (we don't say that very often in airliner modelling!) with seats, control columns and rear bulkhead. Strips of glazing are provided for the cabin windows, and the instructions show to remove various lengths from each one, a sure sign that a -300 is on the way, and this sprue will be shared with it. The cockpit opening is of the 'letterbox' type, with a clear insert for the glazing, like the Airfix 'Skyking' and some Revell kits do. The instructions note to include 10 gr of weight in the nose to prevent tail sitting. There is no option to assemble it with slats and flaps down (which seemed to divide opinion amongst modellers) as the wings are formed from a single span lower part with individual uppers for each side. This is a virtually fool proof way of getting the dihedral set correctly and equally each side, simplicity itself. The wing can be built with the upward curved 'winglets', or the standard tips which are included but marked as not for use. Either are probably appropriate as photos show Icelandair 757's with both at various times. Next up are the engines, and here we have a real bonus. Zvezda have included both the Rolls-Royce and P&W options in full, which is very welcome for those of us who like to buy multiple kits and finish them with aftermarket decals for other liveries. The Rolls-Royce engines are used on this Icelandair version, and feature stunningly moulded fan detail. Also welcome is the provision of inner liners for the intakes. They are in 2 parts so can be assembled and smoothed off before fitting to the fan units. Knowing how accurately Zvezda's kits fit together, a quick swipe with some wet & dry paper should clean up any seams in seconds. Finally the undercarriage is assembled, but there is the option to assemble it 'gear up' in flight, and a sturdy stand is provided should you chose to do this. The undercarriage is made up of Zvezda's typically fine detailed parts, so will need care in assembly. Attention to detail evident even here as two complete sets of wheels are provided, each with different hub patterns. Kudos to Zvezda! Nose leg main part: I've had a couple of messages since posting this review, asking if it is possible to fit the nose leg after assembly. The good news is yes! Stage 10 in the instructions is the final step, and this is where you fit all the legs to complete the model. Summaries from the instructions to illustrate some of the pints made above. Decals Just one colour scheme is provided, that of Icelandair. It is beautifully printed in perfect register and with minimal carrier film. Silver framing is provided for all window surrounds and the cockpit glazing. A much appreciated touch is the provision of blocks of colour for the blue and yellows needed for painting the model. These will be the engine cowlings (yellow) and the under fuselage and fin. A second sheet provides the wing and tailplane walkway markings. Conclusion. The 757 has been high on many airliner modeller 'wants' list for several years. There are nice resin kits available, but the two injection moulded 757's from Minicraft and Eastern Express are not up to most modellers expectations, and can now be consigned to 'collectors only'. This new kit far and away exceeds them, and looks to be outstanding 'in the box. I have no doubt that it will build up with the superb fit that Zvezda achieve with their kits, a little care will be needed with assembling the noseleg, but the rest of it looks to be simplicity itself. I am sure that it should be a big seller for Zvezda, and that the aftermarket decal producers should be releasing some of the many, many attractive schemes that the 757 wore over the years.   2. Hi Everyone Sure I'm not the only one, but got into modelling during the pandemic to stop myself going mad. Us pilots were regularly locked up around the world in various countries & hotels & sometimes quarantined back on arrival. I decided to make a model of every type of aircraft I've been lucky enough to fly so far in my career, these are the first 2 that I've finished building. These are also the first models I've made since I was about 12, I know they're not a patch on some of the fantastic ones I've seen on here but I did my best 😅. And yes I made some stupid mistakes, which I'm sure you guys will spot. The 757 was modified with some flaps by LACI with decals from Draw Decal, the 767 decals are from 26 decals Any comments welcome as I'm a complete beginner and looking to learn from the vast experience on here \
  3. Hi all, I enjoyed so much the first GB that I joined the list for this one immediately after it was proposed! Again I have too many fitting kits to start, this time I made a decision to enter first an airliner, maybe this will be easier to finish and give me additional time for a second entry. So, my plan is to build the much cursed Minicraft B757 (not Zvezda, I still have to buy it) because I have it in my stash and this is a good excuse. Perhaps I will do some shape improvements, but we'll see. For sure the livery will be this: I made a return trip on it in 2006 for a holiday in Minorca. I have very good memories and the plane was quite comfortable compared to the run of the mill Airbuses and B737s. Cheers Fabio

  5. I have many projects on the go, but at the moment paining is on the back burner as I’m awaiting to finish turning the loft into the shed of the sky, so have nowhere to spray/airbrush. Anywho, I thought I’d try my hand at the world of resin. I ordered a Authentic Airliners 757, with RR engines. I’ve started basic work on the tail. I must say I love the detail of resin. While looking into the scheme I plan on doing, I noticed I needed to change the engines, thankfully braz do the ones I needed, so ordered Braz RR RB211 535c. This may be a slow project as I’m new to resin any tips and advice be grand! and yes in the background is a 1-11 I’m slowly working on, I’m a fan of old airliners and old kits.
  6. My latest build is the 757-200 from PAS models (Russia), with decals from DACO, the Coroguard from Flying Colors and the windscreen and window decals from Authentic Airliners. I had fun building this model, but there were two problems. One was that I forgot the balance weight near the top of the fuselage, after I already glued and even puttied the two halves together. As such I had to cut open the model to add the weight to prevent it becoming a tail sitter (on the plus side, it did give me experience for possible future conversion projects). The second one was the decals. As said, I used the decals from DACO (normally they are very good), but the fit was terrible (most likely because it is designed for the terrible Minicraft kit) and I botched them up. Luckily TheFlyingDutchman (he can also be found on the Airlinercafe site) had a spare that I could use. Still, I had a lot of trouble with it, but in the end it turned out OK. As this is a resin kit, most will want to compare it to the Authentic Airliner offering. I haven’t build an AA 757 myself (yet), but in the far future I may make an Martinair one (I have the decals already). From what I can tell though, the PAS 757 is actually pretty good and accurate. The fit of the fuselage and wings isn’t too great and if I have to nitpick the leading edges of the wings are a bit thick and the engine pylon is a bit too short, but other than that it’s a very fine resin kit. Much cheaper that the AA one, although the shipping costs from the PAS website have increased recently. If you manage to spread out the shipping costs by buying various kits, you have a very good alternative to the AA 757. my next build is going to be the BAE Jetstream 41 from Welsh. I already started building it. I will probably make a build thread here at BM as well, as it’s a British build Aircraft and that’s appropriate I suppose Anyway, below are the pictures.   7. Hello all, Time to start a new project, the Boeing 757 in Monarch markings. I've spent a great deal of time researching the problems with the Minicraft kit and am going to try and attempt to correct with the help of Braz parts and hard work. The markings of course come from Draw Decals and are very well printed, the blue and yellow Monarch scheme is very elegant. Braz parts,as seen in the pic below, are the replacement nose, tail cone, and tail. New Braz Rolls Royce engines were also purchased. The first task will be to glue up the fuselage and cut away the nose and tail. My Minicraft kit suffers from sink marks and a cracked wing, so I have a second kit coming to rob some parts from.   8. Flew on this to Tenerife last year for our first holiday without the kids Minicraft kit with the engine pylons modified so they're not at a ridiculous angle! Not altered the nose which also has issues. Nazca decals for the Thomas Cook scheme. Steve
  9. Evening All, TF-FIU was rolled out of Air Livery at Norwich Airport today wearing a new Livery. I managed to catch it after a manic dash from work for the scheduled departure time of 17:10, only to discover it slipped to 19:20.... The New Livery is believed to be a new advertisement scheme, wearing the Hash Tag #mystopover It departed in a 30 knot wind, which makes it difficult for night pics!   10. Hi, Flew on this last year coming back from Spain, outbound was a 737-800. Minicraft kit with the angle of the engine pylons adjusted and Draw Decal Thomson markings. Metal winglets from a modeller on here which I broke off the wing several times! I've not altered the kit's dodgy nose shape as this was just a quick build for me in between other things. Comments welcome..... Thanks for looking. Steve
