I’ve been thinking about making one of these for a while, so here goes. I remember watching these taxying past one of the viewing lay-bys at Wattisham in the late 80s; might try and dig out some old Kodachrome photos if I can. Onto the kit, I’m hoping this Academy USN F-4J is suitable? One thing missing for the RAF version is the two long antennae on the intakes - anyone know where I can get some, or the best way to scratch build those please? A couple of aftermarket bits I’ll be using. I’m glad I bought the cockpit set as the kit has no instrument decals and requires one to paint them. The Xtradecal are good too, enabling you to make any of the ‘Tiger Sqn’ coded Phantoms. Thinking I may do ZE 353 ‘E’, though not really decided for sure yet. If I may, I have a couple of questions - need some advice please! Firstly, would I be correct to use the kit decals (US Navy) for stencils? Or do I need to source RAF ones? (from an FGR2 kit, perhaps, or different again)? Now it’s time to go down the rabbit hole … Are these Tamiya greys close enough? Can you believe it was 40 years ago this summer that these entered RAF service!? I was 13 then, makes me feel so old! 😟

Good afternoon everyone I was at RAF Bentley Priory when the station closed in 2007 and part of our last duties whilst there was to clear out the buildings. In Bldg266 we had a conference room and whilst we were clearing it out we found a large packing crate and inside was this.. Everyone at Bentley knew I was a cabbage and they offered the model to me (otherwise it would have been skipped) and I obviously didn't hesitate in excepting it. For reasons only known to me I took the model but not the packing crate and once Bentley had closed I was posted to SHAPE in Belgium. Now I had a problem how to transport the model across Europe? At the time of my posting my mum and dad had decided to pack up and move to the South of France so I entrusted them with transporting the model to France, which they duly did and there it stayed until last week when we were finally able to met up here in Cornwall and with them they brought amongst other things this Phantom. As you can see its very dusty and it has received some slight damage to the sidewinder rails but other than that it's in remarkably good shape. So what to do? I'll obviously clean it and I might try and replace the missing sidewinders and rails what do you guys think? Iain

Two more lockdown builds complete, an RAF FGR.2 from 228 OCU at RAF Leuchars and an F-4J (UK) from 74 Sqn at RAF Wattisham, both from the late 1980s. The FGR.2 is the Fujimi kit with Modeldecal markings and Flightpath ladders, whilst the F-4J (UK) has an Italeri F-4S background (not my best choice - it needed some unplanned work to the wings) and uses Kits-World markings. Now on with the RN versions! FredT

Good morning everybody... I started this build quite a while back now. I was given an AZ Martin-Baker MB.5 Sea-Baker kit. I wasn't thrilled by the Whif schemes that AZ issued with the kit so decided to do one of my own. I opted to go with a Reno Racer based on the MB.5. I theorized that the RAF purchased a small amount of these to replace the N.A. Mustang Mk.IV’s post war until jets were good enough to do the same roles. One of the Squadrons to operate these was #74 Squadron. Lets jump forward to modern times and a well to do gentleman decided he would restore and modify one to race spec. In the end opting to go with a Tiger motif to honor the planes time in service with 74 Squadron, so I give you my Tiger. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. I will add a link to the WIPin case someone would like to take a look. A song to go along with the build. https://youtu.be/VCAw6s1rV-A Dennis

This is my entry for the group build, it's Whirlybirds 1/144 kit. I may be a little late starting as I still have to complete a couple of WW2 ground attack attack targets first, but I shouldn't be too late to the party. So here is a shot of the box and the contents and a close up of the decal sheet.
