  1. I finally finished my 404 Sqdn. Beaufighter, as it would have appeared on the morning of D-Day. While Coastal Command would usually have used semi-armor piercing warheads, on this day they had the 60lb warheads for Flak suppression, and still carried the 'Universal' bomb racks on the belly. This is the Tamiya kit (1/48) with a huge list of corrections/additions/mods. It's painted with Tamiya acrylics, weathered with oils, and pastels, and Aviaeology's 'AOD48002m RCAF Beaufighters in Coastal Command' decals. Hope you like, Colin Build log: Beaufighter build
  2. My next quarantine build is Tamiya's Beaufighter TFX. I'm starting to add some details, and corrections ... The engines with the exhaust pipes, cowl braces, cleaning up the exhaust ring and the flame damper exhaust with the cabin heater pipes (a detail that seems to get missed) Correcting the balance and trim tab linkage, and dropping the elevators ... Adding some detail, brake lines, axle pillow blocks and pivots to the gear. Also flattening the tires and drilling for axles. Rescribing and correcting the wing panel lines, adding the gun close off patches, opening up the oil cooler outlet etc ... and I'm just starting to add fuselage and cockpit dtails ... It should be a fun build, the Tamiya kit is a very nice starting point. The machine I'm building will require stealing the armor piercing rockets from a Mosquito kit for use on the Mk 1b rails from the kit.
  3. Hello all. In my nearly fifty years of building model aircraft, strangely I've never built a Beaufighter, something that I have now corrected. This is the newish release from Airfix, everything fits together nicely apart from the cowling/engine assemblies which were a bit over engineered in my opinion, this made them a bit of fiddle to get right. Built oob apart from some Tamiya tape seat belts and a little scratch building of control levers in the cockpit. Painted with MRP lacquers, W&N oils for the wash, pastel chalks for weathering and stains. Thanks for looking gazza l
  4. I've finally finished my 1/48 Classic Airframes Bristol Blenheim Mk IV.f. While it's not a "Tamigawa", or Eduards kit, it's a good solid 'short run' kit that gives a lot to work with, and is a fun and rewarding build. Mine is finished as a 404 Squadron, RCAF, aircraft flown by Wing Commander Woodruff, and F/S Sims on 18 December, 1941, when they scored this units first air-to-air victory, a JU-88, operating out of Sumburgh, Shetland Islands. I hope you like, and thanks for looking, Colin The build log ... Colin
  5. I'm working on the Classic Airframes Blenheim Mk IV, to be finished as a 404 Squadron machine, Coastal Command. I think I have identified all the changes I believe I need to make as follows ... - The bulged side windows, - The rear view mirror for the pilot, - The small oval windows behind the canopy, - The flame hiding 'hedgehog' exhaust, - The twin .30 cal. Browning machine guns in the turret, - The unusual blast plate ahead of the gun pack, and, - The non standard gun pack. I do have a couple of questions for those who might know, though. Have I missed any changes that I still have to make, and, what is the significance and the color of the semi-circular dark marking on the landing gear doors above the main wheel. It appears in all the photo's of 404 Squadrons Blenheim's. Does the marking continue onto the wing or nacelle? I hope someone may know, and thanks for your help, in advance. Colin
