  1. Here's my entry into the Tamiya Group Build, it's the 1:24 Scale Nissan Skyline R33 GT-R V-Spec (24145) built with self modelled and printed exhaust back box, lowering kit, big brakes, wheels and tyres; front grilles by Aber; reg plates and carbon decal by ZoomOn and badges by Hobby Design. Paint is ProScale Nissan Midnight Purple with an SMS Pearl Magenta Rose tint coat over the top. WiP is available here... I had some issues with the paint, when I added the clear, as the tint coat was really 'spikey'. I set about polishing it to a greater degree than any of my other build and I'm pretty happy with how it came out. I just knocked out the lowering kit and wheels based on the R34 I built last year and it hasn't quite worked. The stance is pretty raked forward and the wheels could do to be a bit more flush. That said, I do like the way that makes it look so thuggish. If I was to build this again (and there's a good chance I will) I'd fill the front number plate mount so the intercooler logo is visible, adjust the ride height (to level it) and poke the wheels out 1mm. All those adjustments are actually ready to print. I'd also model proper headlights with clear lenses and include the sidelights. Anyway, on to the photos! Thanks for looking! Martin And a shot with some relatives...
  2. Welcome to my R33 Skyline build! Given the short notice, I've picked something fairly straightforward, in that it has no engine, that I already had in stock, including ZoomOn window masks and a bottle of ProScale Midnight Purple paint. On studying the instructions, I noticed the floor pan is almost identical to the Tamiya R34 GT-R (of which I've built two). This got me thinking... I'd already modelled a lowering/camber/big brake kit for the R34, so most of it will probably fit this. Turns out the front strut/hub assemblies look almost identical, but are in fact different in almost every dimension! Anyway, I was into it then, so I made the necessary modifications and not it should fit! Assuming there's room to lower it 1.5mm and add -3º of camber. I also had a set of wheels and tyres, modelled in 19in, that I thought would really suit. But then I decided 18in would look better, so I adjusted those, too! These are a Rays Volk Racing 21C with Toyo Proxes R888R tyres. I've made the rims 2in wider than stock with tyres of the original width, to give it plenty of stretch. Hopefully this will give me a really nice stance (similar to the R34 but with more camber). If the perspective on this render looks a bit off, it's because the tyre has a -3º taper toward the inside. This'll just help the car sit flat. The reason the R34 is photographed on a piece of foam is because I didn't taper the tyres and only the inside edge touches the ground! I also started having a play around with paint... This is ProScale Nissan Midnight Purple, over a black base, with a couple of light coats of SMS Pearl Rose Magenta tint coat over the top. Finished with lashings of ProScale 2K clear gloss. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I'm thinking of using Rays bronze for the wheels and, although the wheel in the photo is painted in ProScale Rays Wheel Bronze, I think it was over a white base. I'll run a test with a black base and some fairly matte clear to see how it looks against the purple. And that's is for now. I'm going to try and print the wheels, tyres, suspension and brakes over the weekend and make sure they fit! Thanks for looking! Martin
  3. Well, I said I wasn't going to start a WiP yet, but then I've had some paint mixed, so... here we are... Introducing the 1/24 Scale Tamiya Testarossa I've talked about this project in the 'Spotted...' and 'Recent kits...' threads and so now I'll consolidate it into a WiP. So here's how it started... In the ludicrous Ronal Teddy discussion of a few weeks ago, the concept of a Ferrari Testarossa on Teddy drag wheels was born. My first thoughts were of 80s Pro Street cars and specifically the (actually 1990) B&M neon pink Camaro. This is the only photo of the car, at the time, I can find IN. THE. WORLD. If I hadn't sold all my old copies of Street Machine I could have got one from the article. This is my inspiration! The plan is to build a Pro Street Testarossa as it might have been built in the early 90s, if it had been sponsored in part by Ronal: the TEDDYROSSA! (Thanks to @Neddy for the name) I'm thinking supercharger on the flat 12 popping out of the engine cover with a scoop over the roofline, narrowed rear suspension (difficult with the engine in the way) with massive, treaded tyres (drag radials?) and narrow-ish fronts wrapped around a set of Teddies. I might leave the side vents open, a la Willy Koenig, and possibly have smooth, smoked front and rear grilles/light panels... We'll see... As I'm modelling some Teddies for the Ferrari 348tb, I've already started on the centre lock drag versions... And, finally... I emailed ProScale to ask if they could make a suitable pink for me - they offer a custom service at no extra cost. My requirement was for a pearl paint that was as close to the original solid colour as possible. Realising that, being a metallic pearl, it wasn't going to be as 'flouro' as the original. Paul at ProScale really came through with this beauty... It looks red in the photo but, having seen a video of the paint in motion, it looks like the highlights will be bright pink and transition to a red/pink in the shadows, which I think will look amazing! Once the paint arrives, I'll do some spoon tests on white and pink primer. After the spoon tests, this project will probably lie dormant for a while, whilst I clear some of the mounting WiPs I already have! Thanks for looking and, if everything I've written upsets you Martin
  4. I can’t remember exactly when I bought or built this kit. The shop doesn’t exist anymore but I believe it was 1999 or 2000. The price looks to have been £16.99: only a couple of quid cheaper than when I bought one last year. I probably built it in a couple of weeks but, when I sprayed the body it went crazy. I just used car paint and the colour reacted really badly: it actually added texture to the plastic! I even clear coated it, in the hope it might improve the situation… It didn’t. I continued the build to almost completion but, before I put the glass in, I just chucked it back in the box and left it. I’m amazed I still have it, because we’ve moved house five times since then and I’ve lost every other model, bar one. Including an unstarted 1/12 Tamiya Honda NR750 Anyway, when I started 3D modelling and printing, and I decided to start selling wheel packs, I thought I’d use this R34 as one of my mules for shooting listing photos. Once I got into it, I realised it would never make a decent “showroom” model, so I got a replacement and made that. The irony being, I made that one so low I couldn’t swap the wheels out once it was finished and so couldn’t use it anyway! So, earlier last year,I started pulling the model to bits and damaged the reflector in the driver’s mirror. At that point, I started thinking about having a play at weathering… and here we are. Then, when I started the Range Rover and the Brian James trailer, an idea formed that this could be the payload. And then I thought of a backstory for the car… I’ve been chipping away at this for the last 12 month or so and here are some ‘finished’ shots. Anyway, I think that’s everything. Thanks for looking! Martin The WiP
  5. Here is my little creature which I've finished in 5 days during our regular "Build & Chat" session last week. ICM's kit builds with no problem. I've replaced the landing gear legs with the excelent Aerocraft set. Some PE from Eduard is used in the cockpit. Decals are from AOA "FAC & BS BOMBER OSCAR DEUCES". The conversion parts for O-2B (loudspeaker and leaflet dispenser) are my own 3D construction and print.
  6. I always start with the hardest part on really challenging models. That saves a lot of time, because if that doesn't work, all the time and effort beforehand is wasted. With the Italeri Lancia it's the cockpit. which looks awful! After the cockpit was finally finished in 3D, I bought the model. My special thanks to Iceman 29 @Iceman 29 who gave the cockpit the right look with Fusion 360. I cut off the cockpit roof! It looks good without the "bubble" The headlights and the air slits above the fender have also to be reshaped. The new cockpit looks fantastic, I hope that I can do it nearly as well in real terms in 1/24 scale! I hope that this project will end successfully! Regards Andreas
  7. hello here is my next build the Lancia Stratos Pirelli : scratch build parts: cheers!
  8. Giddey to all, I tried to scratch build the coal winches, but as they are very tiny peaces (3 mm height) and 20 x, I did not succeed. So I decided to 3D print them. I worked many hours with TINKERCAD and learned to use it. Then I uploaded the 3D file at SHAPEWAYS and ordered the model. Starting the next lesson: the printability! Loose shells, thin walls and the scale. The design of the coal winch is relatively simple there are only 8 shells, so I got it after 6 tries. Here are the pic´s of this design: and the real thing: here is the next step for the build, 3D printed boat davits and the 2 boat cranes: take look at the red arrow ! This is the previous scratch build part and should be exchanged with 3D Part boat crane The boat davits - challenge was/is they should be movable! Design relatively simple: and the real challenge - the 2 boat cranes! I have to make 2 different designs to get it placed at my model. As designed with tinkercad: As designed with tinkercad: A very komplex design, 4 movable parts, 2 different designs and more than 60 shells! When shapeways noted issues, I had to disconnect up to 20 shells, -change the design, realign and connect the shells again. When uploaded I often discovered missing shells, and start all over again. Here what I ordered at shapeways: I am waiting now for the printed parts, I am very curious! regards Andreas
  9. This kit comes with lots of problems.I wish, I could start a again, however we must say, that a lot with your models and l found this superb link, only after I had finished Kent. There are plenty of photo,s of the County class on the net, here are a couple. http://countyclassdestroyers.co.uk/index.htm plenty of pictures http://www.modellmarine.de/index.php?option=com_alphacontent&section=11&category=210&Itemid=59 Great build of an Airfix kit. http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/rn/destroyers/county/ more pictures Items to overcome with the kit. 1 Plastic soft and brittle. 2 Gap between B turret and Bridge to big. 3 The difference in the class between Batch 1 and 2,even the rear mast was position different within the batches.
