Hello everyone... Hoping its a good Friday morning and everyone is Safe and Healthy ? Id like to present to you one of the five completed builds this week. This one was for the Journey’s end group build, and is the first WW2 Japanese aircraft I have built since the mid 1980’s. It is the Tamiya 1/72 Kawasaki Ki.61 Hien in the markings of 2nd Lieutenant Shinzo Takashima of the 244th Fighter group (Sentai). Its a beautiful kit that requires almost no filler, what little I used is more likely related to my construction than the kits design. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. I will add the link to the build if anyone would like to view it. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235072249-tony-the-mistaken-italian/ Dennis

Hello Everybody... I will be building Tamiya’s Excellent 1/72 Kawasaki Ki.61 Tony. The plane was given the code name “Tony” by the Allies. This was because on the early visual sighting’s the allied pilots assumed they were Macchi Fighters from Italy, thus my chosen title choice. My chosen scheme is from the 244th Sentai Home island defense from May of 1945. I splurged on the Mottle decal set from Tamiya. Currently my air brush has a damaged part and tends to spray wrong for mottling now. I have an alternate scheme if it all goes left field somehow. I will paint this as a captured example flown by VMF-322 & VMF-323 on Okinawa July 1945. The Yontan Tony as it became know was in an Overall gloss blue scheme with red Rudder & spinner white nose and vertical stabilizer. If everything goes good and the Mottle decals go good. I will eventually build this Tony ⬆️ someday. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or thoughts ? Dennis EDIT: I just took a count of my ongoing builds, My previous record was seven builds. With this Tony Ive beaten that and am at eight builds now. Four Spitfire’s a Mk.Vb, two Mk.VIII’s, and an Mk.IXc. Then theres my F-107, MB.5, and RF-4B Phantom. I may be slipping over the edge, as thats going to keep me busy until The Corsair group build. Hopefully some of these will be done by then, as Ive got three Corsairs waiting to go.

Kawasaki Ki-61 Type I-TEI, #5262, Chofu, April 1945, Pilot: 244th Senai commander Capt. Teruhiko Kobayashi (reserve a/c) Kit: Hasegawa (in the meantime clearly superseded by Fine Molds and RS Models) Photo-etched parts: Eduard Wheels with rubber tires: Equipage Decals: Life Like Decals “244th Sentai Pt.2” Built in 1997 and finished initially as that dubious "Shamrock Tony" much discussed around 2000. Partially repainted and completely re-decalled in 2004. Although the level of painting and weathering leaves something to be desired being obviously below that of my more recent models presented here and the exact colours might remain somewhat controversial, lot of corrections and extra detail (wheel wells, ventral radiator, drop tanks - just to mention a few...) were done and so I dare to present it to your attention...
