  1. Finally calling it done. Here's a link to the building, http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235001342-2015-peterbilt-tri-axle-wrecker-150/
  2. I'm not able to post reviews but the first part of this wip will be a review so if any moderators would like to move it to the review section then please feel free! For anyone who has built the excellent recent MkV, this boxing is very similar with many shared parts but also a few key differences. And for anyone who has built the rather disappointing Airfix Mki/ia/iia kit of a couple of years ago this is miles ahead in terms of detail and finesse. One of the very interesting things about this boxing is that it contains many items that allow you to build a pre-war spit and far more satisfyingly than the previous release. As you can see from this page of the instructions, there is a whole separate lower starboard sidewall and undercarriage lever for the pre-war option (option 'C' in the instructions). This could also allow for quite a nice and easy build of a prototype without too much additional work. You can see these parts below: And alongside the undercarriage lever is the early style pitot which is a very welcome addition: Another very visible difference with the pre-war Spitfire is the lack of headrest and seat armour which is also addressed in the instructions:

  4. Hi guys, This will be only my second WIP build thread as I've only just returned to the Hobby this year after about 25 years of absence (my teens being the last time I did anything). It's a fantastic kit with some very cool extras listed below. I'm very keen to make the best of it and hope my ability (or lack of) doesn't cause too many tears. Hans-Helmut Linck, 10./JG 4, Alteno airfield, Germany, September 11, 1944 I intent to build this aircraft in the following scheme: Bf 109G-6, W.Nr. 165267, 1/HleLv 34, Taipalsaari airfield, July, 1944 Eino Luukkanen was in the cockpit of this airplane while achieving his 56th confirmed victory. He downed a Soviet Yak-9 fighter flown by Lt. G. F. Nizhnik on August 5, 1944 over Narva Bay. This Yak was the only aircraft downed by the guns of MT-451. The aircraft was delivered to Finland on June 23, 1943. The former German Werk Nummer is visible on the rudder. Two underwing cannon pods were mounted and there was no artwork on the rudder at that time. The fledgling eagle was painted later on. MT-451 was written off after an accident on August 25, 1947.
  5. A bit on the dark side, but got some pics of the truck outside in the snow. I had to take it to work to get the pictures, there's a small river right beside my work that gives a nice backround. Here's the link to the build. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234990977-150-2015-kenworth-t880-fuel-truck/
  6. Hi all, I seem to have spent most of the year apologising for not finishing things! It's not a good look is it? But we did move house (unplanned, something came on the market we really liked after we'd just about committed to staying put). Then my wife spent a month swanning around Europe's ivory towers while I looked after small and kept up work. After that I'm not sure what happened. Anyway, here's what's emerged from the forest of started-and-unfinished threads this year: (click for bigger) A set of three Baldwin Steam Tanks from the wargame "All Quiet on the Martian Front" - these are nice little plastic models with OK fit. They painted up quite nicely despite the rather soft mouldings, and it was fun to go all-out with the modulation. The scale is a bit odd but they're about three inches long. The natural adversary for these tanks - a Martian Fighting Machine. Again this is quite a nice little plastic kit, painted with various Alclad shades. The winter was cold and in the new place my office-cum-modelling room is no longer the warmest space, so I retired to the sofa and painted little plastic men. These are all Games Workshop so a bit bigger than 28mm. This chap was "free" with the GW magazine. I thought the designs (fantasy cybermen?) were silly at first but they really grew on me and I ended up buying the starter box for Age of Sigmar to have more cybermen to paint. Especially this one! Amazing what they can do with the plastic now, these are incredibly complex for fixed-pose figures. I also painted a group of the Chaos adversaries: which taught me a fair bit about painting skin. I've been trying to be braver about contrast and neater with details. I amused myself painting chest and armpit hair onto some of them as you can see. I finished my figure painting off by doing their leader, Khorgos Khul, and his little dog too: he seemed to take forever and I was pretty burnt out from doing all the tiny details at the end. I loved painting his cape though: After that I started some things and didn't finish them (sorry Vietnam GB!) and finally got back into gear with this little Gundam - cheap and cheerful and a lot of fun: Since I've had a bit less modelling time this year, I've been looking for things to do with my existing models and I've been trying (inspired mainly by Andy Moore) to make my photography and presentation a bit more interesting: My favourite is probably this one which was shot on a model railway module in front of my window, and then messed with: I should mention two other things which have taken time away from modelling - I spent a month learning to sew in order to make costumes for a 40th Anniversary Rocky Horror screening, including a scratch-built antimatter laser made mainly from knitting needles. And I've been doing the posters and newsletters and website for our model club's Expo next year: Feel free to check out our website here - I'm probably going to change the yellow on white: Although I was following some guidelines for Wellington promotion on the council's website, the header would be better on dark grey. http://scalemodelswellington.org.nz/ If I'm lucky I will get to add one more model to the total this year: I am trying to psych myself up to fix the rigging strand that broke in the move... I leave you with the following - don't trust strange strange couples: Cheers! Will
  7. 2015 was a pretty good year for me, I seem to have thing for big heavy jets Starting small in early January with a Trumpeter 1/48th Vampire FB.9 marked as the very first jet my father flew in 1951: Just two weeks later I finished this HobbyBoss 1/48th F-111A Aardvark, easily the largest and most detailed kit I have ever made: Then another two weeks later I was motivated to finish this Kittyhawk 1/48th F-101A Voodoo which I had started six months earlier. I managed to mislay the ejection seat and it has never been seen since! May was a very productive months with three 1/48th Phantoms completed. The first was this Hasegawa Phantom FG.1 completed as operated by the Fleet Air Arm 767 Squadron. This had sat on the shelf of shame for years however all it needed was a little effort and concentration and I am very pleased with the end result: The second of the three Phantoms was this ancient 1/48th Esci F-4J completed as a war weary example flown by VF-74 in 1972, I tried a home made panel wash which largely worked: The phinal Phantom was this equally old Revell F-4C marked as a triple Mig Killer 'Miss Piggy' operated by the 142nd FIG out of Portland, OR by the Oregon Air National Guard: Then a long gap until a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to try another Royal Air Force subject and this Gulf War Panavia Tornado GR.1 was the result: Have enjoyed these builds and learned a lot! Michael
  8. Since I'm waiting for decals to finish off my F-8s, I'm building a truck. I was commissioned by the KW saleman who sold the actual truck, part of a fleet to Morgan Fuels. Morgan hauls bulk fuel for Esso in southern and central Ontario and sometimes Manitoba. The model is a First Gear KW T880. I was lucky and found it on evibay. I say lucky because the truck originally had a lowboy trailer, the seller had two that he kept the trailers from. I also found an International Durastar with the near correct tank. Making one from the two. I hope to sell the IH and the leftover KW parts and get some money back. The pictures ahow the actual truck(will be #49)and the other shows what I am starting with. Had some fun with the lift axle before removing it, ever wonder what a KW would look like with hydraulics? Here's where it is right now. Lots more trimming than I expected. Lengthened the rear of the tank, this covers the hose reels. When I glue the top and bottom of the tank body, I missed seeing that it should have been a bit taller. No way to cut this up so I had to ad frame rails under the original tank frame. Added to the rear bulkhead, made a new end cap. I couldn't decide to move the under body cabinets back or just cut them off and make new ones, well I cut them off. Most of the worst parts done now. The bag of sand was inside the tank, I guess just to weigh it down for the die cast effect? Also shown is the test page for the decals.

We can only speculate from the first teaser and future trailers. Refit X-wing and new landspeeder is already known. I expecting kit will go to shops at end of the year. Movie will premiere 19th december 2015.

  17. This is my first one for the new year. Tamiya's Beautiful Spitfire IX. I have built 3 of these including this one , and each one has been a dream in terms of fit and quality. This one is straight from the box witrh no extras. It was a Present from the Wife for Christmas. I started it Christmas evening and finished it last night. The only thing missing is the markings for the prop. Our 7 month old Cocker decided to eat those bless her , little terror! Camo was airbrushed using the blu tac method. I kept the weathering to a minimum. I preferre the look of a clean Spitfire. Apologies for the photos. Im not the worlds best photographer and they really do not do the model justice.
