  1. Kit - Airfix Paint - All lacquers Decals - Xtradecal 72 291 Extras - None Enough has been written about this wee gem, so I'm not going to try to add anything other than this: If you need a 'mojo restoration project' , you could a h*ll of a lot worse than buy this one. Honestly I was a little sad when it was done. Wonderful wee kit, more like this please Airfix. Cheers from a cool but very sunny NZ. Ian.
  2. RA-5C Vigilante BuNo156633/NK603 of RVAH-13, USS Enterprise, Operation Linebacker II, December 1972 The last of the Vigilantes to be lost in the Vietnam war. It was hit by 'Atoll' missile fired by MiG-21 - unfortunately killing the navigator and pilot becoming a POW. This was in fact the only Vigilante lost in aerial combat. At the time of it's introduction - Vigilante was the heaviest, fastest & most complicated plane to operate on carrier decks. But it was about to have very short career - as submarines took over it's job as a nuclear delivery platform in early 60's. But it got a second chance as a reconnaissance plane. A job where it peformed really well, even if it wasn't originally designed for it. Vigilante was big & fast - and highly sophisticated for it's age, having inertial navigation system, HUD, 'Fly-by'wire' and a unique 'linear bomb bay'. Instead of normal downwards opening bomb bay - Vigilante had a bomb chute that opened on the rear between the engines. This allowed dropping the bomb at high speeds. In practice, this never worked very well - but the space left over was used for additional fuel. Fuel that Vigilante used with great success, being able to perform their post-strike reconnaissance missions over hostile territory at supersonic speeds - often leaving it's escorts begging for the Vigilantes to slow down. Vigilante is such a cool plane that gets very little attention - I thought that this GB would be perfect chance to build this plane. Rough idea of the content I am working with. Quite a lot of plastic in the kit and it does look pretty decent. Only aftermarker is pitot tube - but I'm thinking about getting photo etch set too - as I will most likely build this wings up & canopy open. The decals are by Micro Scale (many thanks to @PeterB!) This might be a slow start as I'm quite deep in the Nordic GB builds.
  3. Hi guys, Another one of my S-199 from Eduard. OOB, but added some tubes, wires, foil. Stencil for the Stars of David cut out from yellow tape. Painted with Vallejo colors. Pictures... that's all I can get from my iPhone. Thanks for watching.
  4. Here's another 'stay at home' build, the small but very nice 1:72 Humber Scout Car. The fit of this tiny kit from Dan Taylor Modelworks is exemplary, however the instructions less so. The markings are from the 59th (Newfoundland) Heavy Regiment, Royal Artillery, one of the units that cleared the entrance to the port of Antwerp in September-October 1944. These are one of the three options included in the kit. The interior was enhanced with several scratch build items, although even with the open hatches not much can be seen. The equipment comes from a Black Dog Resin set, with copper wire for the ropes to tie them to the vehicle. Weathering was done with 'mud' dust from Tamiya's weathering set 'A'. I hope you like it. Stay healthy! Peter
  5. Next off the shelf is the very old (maybe original?) boxing of the Hasegawa P-2H Neptune. I've washed the sprues and resin bits. Here they are drying amongst the Scout WIP. Soon to be joined by the Eduard bomb bay and general detail kits, the Aeroclub props and landing gear and PD Decals, amongst others. Not too many plastic parts but heaps of resin and etch. Lots of rescribing to do as everything is raised detail. I'll paint everything this week when the wife goes back to work as she hates the smell of enamel paint through the house!
  6. Dear all, In my builds I tend to swap between 1:72 aircraft and armour. This is my latest in the latter category; the Heller M4 Sherman with deep wading gear from their D-Day boxing. The little vignette is depicting one driving up the beach in Normandy. The building and painting went pretty straightforward, just the vinyl tracks annoyingly wouldn't hold their paint. I may swap them for after market tracks from OKB Grigorov later on. The deep wading trunks are included in the kit, but also a regular rear engine deck in case you want to build a standard M4. The kit also has three different gear cases that IMHO are way better than what UM provides in their kits. The canvas cover and the tarp over the stowage were made with tissue paper soaked with thinned white glue, while the stowage items themselves are from Black Dog Resin. Weathering was done with diluted black brown enamel paint and 'mud' from Tamiya weathering set 'A'. I hope you like it. Peter
  7. I was lucky enough to score a second hand Dragon Sherman Vc Firefly at my local hobby shop for a reasonable € 20, considering that some vendors on eBay ask the most absurd prices for this kit. I finished it as Belvedere from the Staffordshire Yeomanry, using a combination of decals from the Airfix Vc kit and Braille Strike. As usuasl painted with Tamiya TS28 olive drab, with details painted with Vallejo colours. Stowage is from Black Dog and O3D. I hope you like it. Peter
  8. Hey everyone, Here we have an Iraqi Air Force Mi-24 Hind-E, No. 119 from 1984. The kit is from HobbyBoss in 1:72 scale. Overall, I really enjoyed this build, especially since it's my first helicopter (and what a beast of a helicopter it is!). The kit went together well with hardly any issues, and any I did have were my own making. What surprised me was how big it is, in comparison with other aircraft. I've only ever seen them in the movies (and a brief glimpse of a real one flying in Bulgaria many years ago, which would have been a D version I think). Thanks for looking! Stay safe and happy modelling!
  9. Reini's Century Series - F-106A Delta Dart Meng's F-106 comes in a box twice the size of the same manufacturer's F-102 box - and it's stull packed full with plastic! And if possible, it also looks even better than the F-102 kit. As can be seen, the kit is started, but I think I'm safe to say that I'm still under the 25% rule? Kit comes with really nice looking decal sheet and excellent instruction manual. But I will be using Expert Choice decals - and I will be doing a Massachusetts Air National Guard F-106. The PE-set comes with the kit so in addition to the decals, pitot tube is the only thing I've bought extra for this kit. And twice, as it seems! So if anyone needs a 1:72 F-106 pitot tube, send me a PM The Six is the only Century Series fighter that I have not built before so this will be interesting
  10. Not my usual kind of subject (no propeller...), but I joined an F-16 group build of my regional model club. I'm not very interested in the 50 shades of grey that normally adorn modern jet fighters, so I opted for an aircraft in the SEAC colours of the Venezuelan Air Force, with the bright commemorative markings for the 25th anniversary of the 'Dragones'. The kit is from Revell, that I kindly acquired from a fellow modeller from Denmark, through the Scalemates network. The decals are from Aztec, and using the 'strong' version of Daco decal setting solution they confirmed beautifully on the tail. I hope you like it. Peter
  11. I’ll be joining in with this classic armoured car. I’ve already built one earlier this year so know the pitfalls.
  12. Dear all, Please find below some images of my recently finished 1:72 Heller Sherman III (M4A2) of the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (3CLY) 'Sharpshooters' as it appeared during the Sicily landings in 1943. Although not indicated in the instructions, the Heller kit has all the parts to build an early M4A2, although for this build I also needed the sand shields and deep wading gear from Dan Taylor Modelworks. The wading trunks for the Sicily landings were a bit shorter than the ones used in Normandy, so I replaced the etched trunks with new ones from thin plastic sheet. The decals are also from Dan Taylor, as well as some stowage, and this was complemented with stuff from O3D and Black Dog. I hope you like it. Peter
  13. Dear all, As requested by Jerzy (JWM), I herewith post some images of the Roden Heinkel He 111B I built a few years ago. Markings are mostly from the kit, although I swapped the white fuselage numbers for black ones, as they should have been. The trick I used to get the fuselage to close, was to add a shim (1.5 mm behind the cockpit, 0 mm at the tail), which allows the clear parts and the bomb rack to fit). I kept weathering rather light, just adding a pin wash to the control surfaces, the tank filler caps and the bomb bay. Certainly not my best result, but in the end I was just glad to have finished it. I do like the elegant look though of the 'classic' bomber nose, rather than the later 'all glass' nose from the P and H versions. Peter
  14. In for a penny, in for a pound. I found this Xtrakit boxing of the Matchbox NF11/12/14 in the stash and thought I’ve got 3 on the go so why not a fourth. The TT22 was based on the NF11 so this is a reasonable starting point. The airframe is the same but the target towing appendages will need added. I’ll see if there’s any aftermarket available but if not it’s into the spares box to see what can be rustled up. I certainly have enough drop tanks to be able to sort something out. Anyway here’s the kit. Three grey plastic sprues with a number of optional parts for the various Marks. Although a more modern boxing the instructions scream Matchbox. Nice transfers which I’ll use the stencils and some of the roundels. And a commendably clear set of canopies, albeit a tad on the thick side. There’s a fair number of images on the web which I’ll use as a reference but I think they’re copyright so I’ll just give the links. https://www.facebook.com/aviationmt/photos/a.735829616779034/1685419015153418/?type=3 https://www.flickr.com/photos/158949556@N05/31814475477 https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/model/Gloster Meteor TT20 There’s a fair amount of work with the finish as well as the fabrication of new bits. Black and yellow striped undersides, High Speed Silver upperworks with yellow bands and serials, etc out of the stash. So it’s on we go.
  15. A second build hopefully, another Alleycat conversion for the late mark of the Meteor converted to an unmanned target. However, I can’t find the MPM/Xtrakit F8 that I bought at the same time for it. I think it’s somewhere in this stash, I’ll have do a bit of mining. And probably tidy up as well. There’s a few days to go so I should be lucky. Maybe I might just buy the new Airfix one instead!
  16. This will be my first contribution to the GB. I’ve had the Alleycat conversion for a while and bought an MPM kit to go with it. I can’t find the MPM kit in the stash, though I did find a Mark3, but I did come across this Revell Mk4 which is a rebox of the MPM kit.
  17. I’m going to join in with a trio of British V-fighters that graced the decks of post war British Carriers. First up will be this CyberHobby Sea Vixen. I know there are some shape challenges, and ejector seats that only a child could fit in, so there’s a little bit of aftermarket. A new nose, which I’ve seen in a recent build here on BM is a bit better but not perfect, new ejector seats, I’ll probably use one as the observer’s position can’t really be seen. Also masks and some missiles.
  18. A request from a Swiss friend. A Guppy kiosk conversion ( Porthmouth Sail version ) for a Gato Class submarine to represent the USS Torsk 423 with a 1:72 Gato Class Revell hull. I have to release the big sonar under the hull also. I found a lot of drawings on this excellent Gato Class website: http://www.gatosubs.com/mkptsail72draw.htm Unfortunately they are not very accurate, see picture, but they did help me a bit to start my 3D drawing. Luckily, you can find a lot of pictures of the USS Torsk in a dry dock during an interview and docked at the museum, especially on Flickr with HD pictures of individuals. This submarine kiosk looks simple in terms of shape, but it's quite the opposite. First sketchs:
  19. Hi Guys, As probably some of you, I have some models build several years ago .. 15/ 20 years ? who remember ?? 😁. So let me share with you my " Antiques" . Here is one of my fav planes, FW 190-D. In terms of Luftwaffe camouflages, last year of the war in Europe is a very interesting period for me. there were "regulations" and also , frequently the use of " whatever you have in stock" for painting aircrafts at that time, with many parts build by german " cottage industry". My 190-D is based on Japo Fw 190 D camouflage & markings Part 1 book description . Painted if I remember with Gunze paints. lacks the antenna wiring 🤭 and I left the Tamiya wheel wells as they where ( which is not adequate for this model )What a lazy man I am 😆 I added an AB 250 dispenser bomb , Fw 190-D9 of JG 6 ( as many others) were frequently used for ground attack missions trying to stop Russian troops going forward into Germany . The pics Hope you'll like it Thanks for seeing !
  20. Hi Gents, To follow on with my Reggiane family fighters , designed at the beginning by common American and Italian teams, this work leads to two lines of aircrafts on both countries , P-47 for the US and Reggiane fighters for Italy. RE 2002 was close to" end of war" P-47's used as fighter bomber . So I present you my little bird , I did it last year. I know that rear flaps should have been presented down, but , even if it's a little bit unfair 😈, I saw some pictures of RE 2002 with these flaps .. raised, even if not the most common of them.. Anyway this avoid me to do some " after time surgery ".. 😊 Painted with MRP Paints, All the pictures I saw for these planes during fight against allied landings in sicily and south of Italy in 1943 show them in a rather dull finish due to their intensive use in dusty conditions. Ps: for the bomb, really I'm not sure for the colors.. I think it's more for 50 kg ones but anyway I saw that there is resin ones available at this scale, and will probably change it one of theses days 😉 Hope you 'll like the pics ; Best regards to you all and happy new year !!
  21. this model has been on my to-do list for two years now, I finally got round to making it. It only took a week! It's a decent model, didn't have many problems with it. I'm pretty happy with the result, a good way to start 2023... Next up (probably): RA-5C Vigilante, should look good next to the crusader.
  22. Here is another work in progress which will be most probably never completed and take its place in Hall of Shame on my workbench... This is an MHM/Hobbyboss Su-47 Berkut kit in 1/72 scale. My intention is to build this kit from OOB and place it in the display asap. In overall it seems not so bad but I am quite sure that I will have to deal with a lot of troubles during this build. Here are the kit sprues: At first glance this build shouldn't be so difficult and can be finished very quickly but we will see... Serkan
  23. Someone I follow on Twitter started a 'just for fun 109' group build. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing, so retrieved the Airfix starter kit that's been sitting on my son's shelf for a couple of years and decided to take part. As seems to be standard with the 'simpler' kits I really struggled with several aspects. Mainly the painting this time. In advance of this group build I bought the AK 3rd Gen Early Luftwaffe paint set, thinking it would be ideal. It wasn't - I couldn't spray the stuff at all - either clogged up in the airbrush or was too thin. I was thinning with water rather than AK thinners, to be fair. Tried Mr Hobby thinner as well but it just turned to gloop. I eventually ended up with Tamiya for the blue and Humbrol enamels for the upper camo colours. First time spraying humbrol enamel, it went on OK but I was left with ridges when I took the tape off which was disappointing. I then got a misting effect when I put down a satin coat before weathering which I never quite got rid of 😞 At some point in the build I also convinced myself I needed swastikas for the tail. A very kind person on twitter sent me some, but the combination of the Christmas post and the strikes meant they got delayed (arrived yesterday!) so I decided to do my own instead. They look OK from a distance, but don't have the white outline that you normally see. This was my first time using Eduard canopy masks - what a game changer! No way I could have got such a good result using just tape and a knife. So, here we have my 4th completed build of the year. Happy New Year to all on BM, and thanks for the hints, tips and encouragement over the last year - here's to a fab 2023 🍻
  24. Hello! Time for another lightning. As always I started with the interior. Seat always needs an upgrade. Pretty happy with this one. Going to be XS903 Any reference images would be greatly appreciated.
  25. As seems to be my habit recently I came across this when looking for something else. and one of the options is for 826 Squadron of the RCN. The kit is an early Special Hobby kit (2003 according to Scalemates) and has a real 'limited release' look about it. There's a lot of flash on the three grey sprues and the surface is a little rough. But the transparencies look nice. There's a lot of resin, which is much more delicately and finely moulded than the Injection plastic. Good selection of transfers and some film for the IP. And a small bit of etch. Reasonable instructions and although they do suffer from the usual SH mode of 'stick this piece somewhere round here' there are some detail drawings. And decent colour call outs and transfer application guides.
