  1. Here is my VeeDub beach buggy converted from the 1:24 Hasegawa Kubelwagen. It has been shortened as per a 1:1 buggy and has had some custom seats from a Golf added, all pink as my Daughter chose the Tamiya Pink/ Gold for the body and the anodised pink for the chassis. Not sure on the seat colours but, Hey, I'm not the boss! Anyway piccys! I need a replacement exhaust and some seat belts to add when I see some ones that will suit.
  2. Hello, does anyone know when the Italeri Stralis kit is being released? Any idea on price? Thanks, Andrew (Vehicle Modelling Newbie)
  3. BMW 635CSI, Juma Team, 24h Spa 1983 decals 1:24 decal set from Reji Models The BMW 6srs range first took to the street in 1976, it went through various models and upgrades during the models life until the range was discontinued in 1989. Juma Racing was formed in 1974 and was biased in Belgium. The team is still going but is now under the name Racing Bart Mampaey and is credited with 3 wins in the 24h race Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Reji have released a set of decals to alow you to build the car that won the 1983 race, piloted by a 3 driver team of Thierry Tassin, Hans Heyer and Armin Hahne. The BMW 635 CSI is available in 1:24 from either Tamiya or Fujimi. The decals come on a single sheet packed in a zip lock bag and the enclosed instructions are 4 colour diagrams showing the location of the decals. The model will need some carful painting and masking to alow you to reproduce the red and white areas on the car, the white stripe that crosses the bonnet and falls diagonally down the wings will need some careful masking. The decals are screen printed and the colours look good and sharp. They mirror the logos and decals used on the car during this race. Conclusion As I have come to expect the decals are a very high quality and are well researched by Reji. Take care when masking and painting the car and you will have a great model. Review sample thanks to,
  4. BMW 635CSI, John Player Special 1:24 decals from Reji The BMW 635 CSI is part of the BMW 6srs model range, hitting the road in 1976 going through various models and upgrades until 1989. The John Player Special (JPS) team is an Australian race team that raced in the Australian and New Zealand Touring car, and sport sedan series. The team raced the 635 CSI between 1981 and 1986. The car featured in this decal set will let you build a BMW 635 driven by New Zealand born driver Denny Hulme from either the 1984 Bathurst that was raced at the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, New South Wales in Australia, or the 1985 Oran Park, again in New South Wales. Denny Hulme sadly died during a race a Bathurst in 1992 after suffering a heart attack at the wheel of a BMW M3. The BMW 635 CSI is available in 1:24 from either Tamiya or Fujimi. The decals come on a single sheet packed in a zip lock bag. The instructions are 4 colour diagrams showing the location of the decals, the instructions also highlight the differences in markings between the two races. For clarity the instructions show the car in white, but the body of the model should be a semi-gloss black. Reji recommend a Tamiya colour TS14. The decals are very well printed and the gold is nice and metallic and the colours and sheen looks good on the sheet. The decals are screen printed and they are sharply done. Conclusion A nice high quality set of decals from Reji! Review sample courtesy of
  5. Ford Fiesta WRC Decals, 'Prokop' 2011, & 2012 decals from Reji in 1:24 The Ford Fiesta is a very popular hatchback car seen on streets worldwide, this innocent little hatch has also been transformed by Ford and m-Sport for the Ford World Rally team and it took to the rally in 2011 with a 1.6 litre engine and 6 speed sequential gearbox. Reji Model has released 2 sets of decals for the WRC Fiesta as raced by Martin Prokop in the 2011 Welsh Rally, and the 2012 Monte Carlo Rally and will suit the Belkit (BEL003) kit. Martin Prokop debuted on the WRC in 2005 after 4 years driving in the Czech Rally Championship he took part in the Junior WRC category, working his way through various cars he took to the wheel of the Fiesta WRC in late 2011. Prokop drives as part of the Jipocar Czech National team that was formed in 2010. Prokop Rallye Monte Carlo 2012 The Monte Carlo rally is organized by the Automobile Club de Monaco, the same group that organizes the Monaco F1 Gran-Prix, it first ran in 1911 and the 2012 event took place in early January 2012. Prokop completed the rally in his Fiesta and finished in 9th place overall. The decals come in a zip-lock bag as we have come to expect from Reji. The decals are the usual high quality and are very comprehensive; the printing is sharp and in register for the review sample. The kit will need painting in white, then masked for the red and black areas. The instructions are the usual Reji format, colour drawings showing the placement of all decals. A small bonus in this set is a small etched metal Monte Carlo rally plaque. The etch is a nice small detailed part that you could place the decal on with lashings of softener, or you could paint it red then white on the raised areas. Wales Rally GB, 2011 The 2011 Wales rally GB was the 67th outing of this event, and took place in early November. The event was biased in Cardiff but stages where held throughout Wales. The decals follow the usual format, they come in a zip lock bag with the decals and colour instructions. The decals are to the expected high quality and are a completely comprehensive set. You will need to paint the model white and again mask the red and black areas. Conclusion These are two nice sets for rally fans. Both sheets are different if you look to mirror the changes in decals and sponsors between the 2 events. Both come recommended due to the high quality of the sets! Review sample from
  6. Hi guys, I'm looking to get some 1:24 modern jets to go with my 1:24 Sea Harrier....and I was wondering if any existed? (apart from the Gr.3). Cheers! JG
  7. Porsche 911 Carerra 2.7RS '1974 Safari rally' 1:24 decals from Reji The 911 Carerra 2.7RS is said by some to be the best 911s of all time, the RS stands for Rennsport in German, or translated to race sport in English. The 911 RS was raced in the 1974 Safari Rally that took place between the 11th, and the 15th April 1974 in Kenya. The car that took part was a 1973 model (previously in a Yellow ‘Bosch’ sponsor livery) and it had a rear mounted 2.7l air cooled engine. The car depicted in this sheet from Reji came 2nd, and was driven by Bjorn Waldegård with Hans Thorszelius as his co-driver. The car was in first place until the rear suspension collapsed on the last leg of the event. The car is now preserved by a couple in Stuttgart and still takes part in historic events. Reji recommend the Fujimi 911 (12152) as a base for this build. The decals are screen printed and the detail is very nice, with some very small writing on some of the logos being readable with my eyes. The decals come over 2 small sheets that are packed with decals. The decals are numbered and this is referenced on the colour instruction sheet. You will need to paint the car body white before applying the decals, most of the fit to the outside of the car but there are 3 dial decals to fix to the dashboard to show the extra dials carried by this car over the rally. You will need to carefully mask and paint a clear green to the top of the windscreen for the sun strip on the 1:1 car before adding the Porsche logo decal. Conclusion A nice set of high quality decals from Reji for a classic rally car. Review sample from
  8. Willys' Ford Jeep etched working leaf Springs 1:24 or 1:35 etched set from Minor Models The Willys MB US Army Jeep is known by a few other names including the Ford GPW, or ¼ ton 4x4 Truck, it was designed in 1941 as a go anywhere light utility vehicle for the US army and made a name for its self during WW2. With its short wheelbase, 4 wheels drive chassis, 2.2l engine and a manual gearbox with high and low ratios it could go anywhere! The basic Jeep was modified and found a home in many roles in the army finding its self being fitted with weapons, snow ploughs, radio gear and armour as a few examples. Some good detail photos can be seen in this walkaround thread. The Jeep is often seen as an iconic vehicle and has a massive fan base both preserving 1:1 vehicles, and for scale model builders. Minor Models have a selection of sets for modellers of the iconic Jeep including a set of working leaf springs in etched metal both in 1:35 and 1:24 scales. Minor Models have sent a 1:24 set for me to look at. The set comes on a small etched sheet, and it is taped to a stout piece of card to protect it. There is an A4 instruction sheet folded up in the pack, the instructions are diagrams that are colour coded to show the etched parts in blue, kit parts in black and scratch build parts in red. The etch sheet comes on a single sheet, you will need to get some rod and wire for the build as this isn’t included in the set. Looking at the instructions you need some 0.7mm and some 0.5mm wire. The springs are built as a real spring would be, starting with a centre bolt made from some 0.5mm wire then the leaves added from long to short. You then need to bend the end of the long main leaf around some wire to get the eye for attaching to the hangers. The shackles will also need bending and adding with some wire to hold them in place. There are different shackles for the Willys and Ford built Jeeps. The hangers for the springs also come on the etched sheet and will need attaching to the kits chassis and some wire needs bending to shape, following the instructions given on the instruction sheet, to hang the springs to the chassis. A close up of some parts is shown below: The kits axles attach to the springs with some U bolts made from wire when in place the springs need to be flexed to shape. You need to be very careful with the glue when adding the etched nuts to the end of the rods to allow the suspension to flex and give working springs. Minor Models have sent some pictures of the parts in use to show it in action. I will put these at the end of the review. Conclusion A nice set that will give your build extra working detail, and will be a good talking point at a show or club night. Not for the beginner, more for the experienced builder. 1:35 1:24 Review sample courtesy of Photos below from Minor Models
  9. Subaru Impreza WRC 2003 Acropolis Rally 1:24 Decals from Reji The Subaru Impreza debuted on the rally stages in 1993; developed by the British company Prodrive with its flat 4 ‘Boxer’ engine coupled to a 4 wheel drive chassis using active differentials, a first on a rally car. The Prodrive WRC was shorter than the road going Impreza being 160mm shorter, giving a shorter wheelbase. This set of decals from Reji will let you build a 2003 model Impreza WRC, this year the Impreza had a face lifted body following the road car, and some improvements on the engine and turbo. Throughout this season there were 2 drivers, Solberg drove the #7 car, and Mäkinen drove the #8 car, this sheet will alow you to build either car used during the Acropolis Rally in 2003. Reji recommend you use a Tamiya Subaru Impreza (24276) as a base for this build along with their resin bumper conversion set SP/978. The decals come over 2 screen printed sheets and come in a zip lock bag with the instruction sheet. They look well printed, sharp and in register. They look very comprehensive and include the different registration plates for either car, and both 7 and 8 door numbers are included. They are very nice and the distinctive 555 sponsor logos look spot on. The instructions come on a colour sheet with 4 views of the car showing the decal placement. You will need to choose which drivers car you want to build and ensure you pick the correct door numbers, Solberg is 7, and Mäkinen is number 8. Conclusion This is a very nice set, well printed and high quality, of a popular rally car in a popular livery. Reji recommend using their resin bumper(Part number SP/978) on the Tamiya kit to produce an accurate model. Review sample from
  10. Citroen C4 WRC, Petter Solburg GB Rally 2009 1:24 decals from Reji The Citroën C4 WRC is a rally car built for the World Rally Championship by Citroen Racing. Loosely based on the C4 road car it replaced the Xsara WRC for the 2007 season. Petter Solberg was a well known WRC driver and at the start of the 2009 season he announced he was to start his own team, the ‘Petter Solberg World Rally Team’ and using a 2006 specification Citroen Xsara. He became unhappy with the Xsara and looked for a replacement car. He found a 2008 C4 WRC and was able to get the car up-dated close to the specification of the very successful Sebastian Loeb and raced the new car for the last 2 events of the 2009 season. These were the Catalunya Rally, and the Wales Rally GB where he finished 4th in both events. The Citroen C4 WRC is available in 1:24 scale from Heller as an injection moulded kit and Reji models have added a decal set to alow you to build Petter’s car in the 2009 Rally GB colours. The decals come over 2 small sheets and are packed in a zip-lock bag with an instruction sheet; it looks like the bigger sheet covers the Solberg car with the smaller sheet for the specific Welsh Rally. The sheets are screen printed and very comprehensive including all the sponsor logos along with the safety decals required for competition. The colours are well printed and the details are crisp and don’t look too thick. You will need to paint the model white then carefully mask of the back for the black area, and the lower front for the yellow areas. The instructions come on a sheet with 4 colour diagrams showing the decal placement. The decals are numbered on the decal sheet and on the instructions. They look clear and easy to follow. Reji recommend that alongside the Heller kit you should use a Renaissance resin conversion set (Tk24/328) to produce an accurate model. Conclusion A very nice decal set, comprehensive and well printed. I have looked at pictures on the net of this car and the decals look accurate. Review sample courtesy of
  11. FG Models 1:24 Resin Wheels. FG models have supplied a number of resin wheel sets for 1:24 models. All of the wheels here are cast in Gray resin, and are very well done with no flash or casting flaws in any of the sample sets. The first set on the review bench is a set of 20inch Brabus Mono-block wheels. The resin wheels have captured the shape and look of the real alloys very well, with the detail on the rim and hub being very fine, with nice nut details around the rims. There is a separate centre hub to allow you to paint the wheels and the hub different colours. HRE Wheels HRE Wheels is an American company manufacturing a large range of wheels, both single part, and muilti part rims. FG models have produced 2 wheels from there range. The first set I will look at are 1:24 versions of the HRE P47SC wheels, and in 1:1 they come in a choice of sizes and FG have picked the middle sized 20inch wheel to cast, and Fg have captured the shape of the wheel very well. The second HRE wheel form FG is the P40S, again FG chose a 20 inch rim to cast. The shape of the resin again captures the shape of the wheel nicely. Conclusion These are nice wheels that capture the shape and look of the real parts very well. Some nice aftermarket rims for your models. 12. Aston Martin DBS upgrade sets 1:24 sets from FG Model The Aston Martin DBS is the high performance version of the DB9, surely one of the prettiest cars ever made, powered by a 5.9l V12 engine powering the rear wheels via a 6 speed gearbox. The Aston Martin DBS was produced between 2007, and 2012 when it found fame in the hands of James Bond in CasinoRoyale and Quantum of Solace Tamiya produce a 1:24 DBS model kit in 1:24 scale, and is recommended as a base for these two sets from FG Models. FG has produced an etched sheet to up-grade the Tamiya model. The Tamiya kit includes a small etch sheet and this is designed to work along with that to detail your model. The biggest part of the sheet is the etched bars to replace the plastic grill on the nose of the car. It is made up from interlocking horizontal and vertical bars, as the sheet is a shiny chrome finish it will not require painting. A set of metal brake discs are also found on the sheet with dimples on the surface to simulate the drilled vent holes on the discs. A wash of black will deepen these for a more realistic finish. Still on the outside are some number plates as used on the film Casino Royale. Also on the sheet is a plate with the BBCs Top Gear logo so you could add a scale Stig! Inside the car is also covered on the sheet with an etched dashboard dial surround and some DBS logos for the seats. FG Models have also created a nice set of Volante light weight resin wheels for your 1:24 Aston Martin. As expected from FG they are cast in Gray resin, with very fine detail and no flaws on the resin. They are very fine and they capture the 3 dimensional shapes in the wheels very well. The centre hub is cast separately and carries the expected high level of detail. Conclusion A couple of very nice sets, the etch will add allot of detail to the kit, and carries on from the etch supplied in the kit. The option to build Bonds car is a bonus, as are the inclusion of the Top Gear plates. Now we need a scale Stig, Clarkson, Hammond and Captain Slow! The wheels are a piece of resin art, capturing the shapes and curves of the real wheels, it will give your build a different look. Highly recommended! FG models have asked me to point you towards there E-bay site but asked me to mention their parts can be brought through other avenues such as Hobbyeasy.com, hlj.com, Mediamixhobby.com.sg. 13. FG Models Resin Scania Wheel sets Scania is biased in Sweden and started building trucks and buses in 1891. They have now become one of the main Truck manufactures in Europe becoming a firm favourite in fleets and with owner drivers. The latest Scania R series trucks are covered in 1:24 scale by both Revell and Italeri. FG Models have released 3 sets of wheels to enhance the front axle of both the Italeri and Revell kit. All of the sets come cast in a light Grey resin, and the detail on the parts is very good with no flaws in the casting, nor any air bubbles in the surface. Firstly I will look at set FG-7026 'Super Single' and is designed to fit the Italeri super single rubber tyres. Some operators fit their trucks with bigger wider tyres on the steering axle and this conversion will allow you to do the same in 1:24. The wheels are very well detailed, and the set contains 6 parts, 2 wheels, 2 hubs, and a pair of centre caps. There is a very high level of detail on the wheels with the 2 rings of nuts being very well cast. It would be a shame to fit the centre trim caps and hide the detail. The next set, FG-7025, is also Super Single style, but has a different style rim. The set has the same number of parts, and the same high level of detail on the parts. Again it is designed to fit the Italeri rubber tyre. The final set for the Scania is another resin wheel set for the front axle, this time the wheel will take a standard size Italeri rubber tyre. The detail on the kit is very high, and it is the correct style wheel for the Scania, as the plastic in the kit is generic type wheel. Again there are 6 parts in the set with the 2 wheels, hubs, and cosmetic centre caps. The Italeri rubber wheel is a very nice fit on the rim, as can be seen above. Conclusion These are very nice sets form FG models, with very well cast parts with high level of detail. Recommended parts! FG models have asked me to point you towards there E-bay site but asked me to mention their parts can be brought through other avenues such as Hobbyeasy.com, hlj.com, Mediamixhobby.com.sg Please mention Britmodeller when buying through FG models E-bay shop Review sample from Some detailed walkaround photos of Scania trucks can be seen here
  14. Routemaster Resin Wheel conversion The Revell kit of the London Routemaster bus has been a very popular kit, but to my mind there aren't enough aftermarket parts and decals for this kit, bar some etched detail sets. Now FG Models have come to the aid of modellers who want to do a later refurbished and modernised Routemaster model. The Routemaster went through various up-grades and modernisation programs during its service life. Revell have supplied the kit with parts to build an early or later bus with the different engines and other parts. Part of the later modernisation program saw some buses having the original split rim wheels replaced with more modern wheels. The Revell kit is cast so the bus can only be done with the early split rims, with the centre kick rims in place. This set from FG Models contains 6 parts cast in a pale grey resin and is enough to do the front axle on one bus. The level of detail on the parts is very good. The inner wheel and hub look similar to the Revell part, and all the detail is on the outer wheel. The vent holes around the rim are all open and the wheel nuts look like you could crack them off with a scale wheel brace! Conclusion A great set from FG Models to allow you to do a Routemaster later in its service life, or one that has lost its cosmetic centre cap. Recommended! FG models have asked me to point you towards there E-bay site but asked me to mention their parts can be brought through other avenues such as Hobbyeasy.com, hlj.com, Mediamixhobby.com.sg please mention Britmodeller when buying through FG models E-bay shop Review sample from
  15. FG Models Peterbilt resin conversion parts Peterbilt trucks are an American company that was founded in 1936. Peterbilt is biased in Texas and builds heavy trucks mainly for the US market. The Peterbilt range is well covered in 1:24 scale by Italeri and Revell but like many real Petes modellers want to build custom and individual trucks. FG models are based in Korea and produce a range of resin and etched parts for models. I will cover some of their resin parts for the Peterbilt range of kits here. All of the resin parts are superbly cast, to a point I thought they may be Injection Plastic. Over the whole box of parts I can't find a flaw in any of the resin parts, no bubbles, nor is casting flaws and the detail on the parts very nice and fine. Ultra Roof Parts. The Peterbilt bonneted truck has the option of a raised roof section, to give the driver more space in the cab on both day cabs, and cabs with the classic sleeper pod behind. FG models have 2 Ultra Roofs in there range. The casting of the parts is first class. The dimples in the outer skin of the roof are copied from the real parts. The casting is attached to a substantial pour block and some care will be needed in removing it but the pour gates do thin where the meet the roof moulding to assist you. There are 4 parts in this conversion, they are the roof, internal header/ locker and 2 locker doors. The inside of the roof carries a high level of detail with the Patten of the roof liner being present, along with the internal lights and some very nicely done sun visors. There is a separate part to the header inside, along with separate locker doors. This roof has a cut-out at the back so be sure you order the right part (there is a matching day-cab conversion panel by FG) for your kit. This is basically the same part but this hasn’t got the cut-out at the rear as can be seen below. The part has the same number of parts and carries the same high level of detail and quality Peterbilt Day cab panels. Peterbilt offer day cab tractor units and there are also companies that convert sleepers to day cabs in the US. FG models now offer us the same conversion, in 1:24 scale. The first panel on the review bench is designed to fit the Italeri kit, and will convert the plastic sleeper to a day-cab configuration. As with the roof sections the casting is top quality with no flaws in the parts. The surface of the parts has a nice rivet detail and to my eye looks to scale, and not over done. The part is attached to a pour block by 5 gates, and as before they are thinner by the part to assist in there removal. This conversion is designed for use with the Ultra roof from FG shown above (7005) and carries the same detail as shown above. Wheels FG models have sent 2 sets of wheels for US trucks, the first is a specific Peterbilt style, and the second is a more generic US truck wheel. The first wheel set under the camera is the Peterbilt wheels. This is a resin set comprising of 2 wheels for a front steer axle, and it also includes 2 centre caps and a pair of hub-caps for the centre of the wheels. The parts are cast in the normal grey resin FG uses and the quality is as high as previously. The detail on the wheels is very fine with all the vent holes being open, and the wheel nuts being very nicely detailed. These will give your Petes front axle some correct wheels! This set of wheels is copies of the popular Alcoa truck wheels for the front steer axle. These again have the high level of detail, and quality as the previous parts. Conclusion These are very nice resin parts from FG models, a recommended purchase. FG models have asked me to point you towards there E-bay site but asked me to mention their parts can be brought through other avenues such as Hobbyeasy.com, hlj.com, Mediamixhobby.com.sg please mention Britmodeller when buying through FG models E-bay shop Review sample from Some detailed walkaround pictures of Peterbilt trucks can be found here, and here
