  1. Airfix 1/72, a mixture of homemade and Scale Aircraft Modelling 1984 decals. Otherwise pretty much oob.
  2. I've made my choice, it's the cyber hobby 72nd scale aew. 2 Falklands Boxing, I've got eduard masks, and cockpit, and exterior pe for it, hopefully make a start some time over the weekend The box art Cheers Glynn
  3. Having a soft spot for jets of the Cold War I decided to build a (slightly) more modern fighter to accompany my recently built Hawker Sea Hawk. This particular Fiat G-91 is manufactured by Meng to 1/72 scale and whilst it isn’t the worlds best quality kit, it nevertheless builds into a fair representation of the Luftwaffe’s version of this ground attack jet and is nicely decorated with Cartograph decals. The only additions to the basic kit are a resin ejector seat, pilot and a photo etch access ladder. All paints are Tamiya acrylics and the lacquers are Humbol gloss and Humbrol Satin. Shoddy phots by ancient smart(?) phone. Comments, harsh, Micky taking or otherwise well received.
  4. A Quote: "The noontide sun, call’d forth the mutinous winds, And ‘twixt the green sea and the azured vault Set roaring war: to the dread rattling thunder!" William Shakespeare wrote the "Tempest". I have borrowed quotes from the Tempest which to me at least, fit the idea of a Tempest Roaring in to press home the attack over the Normandy zone. I borrowed the quote idea from @Procopius, who also donated the kit to me. I will be building a Tempest Mk.V from 3 Squadron. Initially the Tempest's were held in reserve. There primary responsibility was still defense of Great Britain from V-1 attacks. But they were allowed to roam and support troops as of June 8th. I will be using the Academy Tempest Mk.V. I will be able to use the Majority of the decals from the kit. Though i will have to change the E to another letter. The Roundels are also incorrect for a D-Day aircraft. I believe the upper wings should still be the Blue/Red roundels. Here are the sprue shots. I have both a canopy mask and a camouflage mask. This will be a 1st for me to use camouflage masks. Though Ive used and made canopy masks before. Questions, comments, tips, or good stories are always welcome. Dennis
  5. Another straight OOB build for "production" - as per my earlier Spit for presents , fleabay etc. I'm curious what will fetch more a Spit or a 109E? Thats the trader in me I suppose but I wonder if patriotic zeal will win out? Oh and yes the props all spin now... WIP here Thanks for tuning in Anil EDIT: Updated images, processed with the right settings
  6. Well hi everyone! my builds are mainly focused on little planes with roundels on and mostly from the ETO/MTO, however I got sent some Transfers in an exchange from a lovely chap in Chicago... you may know him? Procopius is his name and he kindly offered to send some mozzie transfers in exchange for a set of Hampden ones i had. i was surprised to find a number of other sets it the envelope for B-24's that flew in the SEA theatre, what a nice guy! so Mr P consider this for you and your growing family... since getting them I have really wanted to build the below Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr I mean who wouldnt?! its got a massive sharks mouth! I have been hunting for an affordable lib kit ever since.... so while taking a jaunt round Telford with CedB i noticed a bargain, as Ced said they are bargains for a reason, and this ones reason appears to be its bomb aiming window is short shot... Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr Not an issue as the front turret is also the wrong type and the astro dome needs moving forward to the nose, so I bought the squadron vac form set which should sort all my issues!? Its winging its way to from hannats as we speak and should be here tomorrow! Anyway, I have 'Balls out' to finish, the revell P-47 and a wild cat that's nearly there, so once they have been sorted i will start this.... wish me luck as its a bit of beast, and its my first four engined bomber in some time! I will get shots up of the kit and extras once I start this.... if anyone has any watch outs about the kit then please let me know! Rob. P.s. I think i may have a SEA phase coming up.... Untitled by robert mulvey, on Flickr
  7. This kit is the climax of an "impulse buy". I was never interested in this vehicle, do not know much about it, but saw in at Telford and thought: "This could be a M113 trying look sexy". So I got it and now it seems, as the payback for being weak, I should build it. Below are the results of the first 15 minutes spent on the kit. What can I say - superb fit for a short run product. So if anyone has links to good walkarounds on this vehicle or good photos -your help will be much appreciated.
  8. Afternoon all, Here is my entry for the 'Specialist' Group Build, Italeri's 1/72 SR-71 Blackbird, pretty much out of the box all bar a brass/resin pitot set and the addition of some astronauts left over from a recent Airfix Lunar Module build. The paint has been weathered using oil paints. The decals aren't that bad and conformed well with set/sol the silvering is purely down to me getting the gloss coat badly wrong with my first use of Alclad II Aqua Gloss. It is not a stellar kit with some loose and ill defined fitting of the major airframe assemblies plus some well documented shape issues mainly around the nose/cheek chine profile. However, that being said I enjoyed the build and am now glad I took the opportunity to add one of my favourite looking aircraft to my collection. Cheers, Mark.
  9. This started with a 1/72 Corvette lifeboat and progressed from there . . . I did post the work on the lifeboat/punt but it seems to have disappeared. The punt Layout Fisherman's store Created with plastic card, tile grout and a needle in a pinvise used to carve the stone Though it may not show there are 7 prime colours used and another 5 wash/ pin/ etc. Cement yellowish as they probably would have used beach sand. The main characters Thanks for stopping by on the next journey ........... Kev Edit Thanks to @JohnWS He remembered where I built the lifeboat which became the punt.
  10. Hi Folk's I'm starting this campaign with Modelcraft's re-boxing of Frog's kit, nothing is changed from the original release even the box art is unchanged.as soon as Flickr is back online I'll post the sprue shot's
  11. Hello my friends. This is my last built: an excellent Eduard Mig-21 MF. This mold is perfect. Easy fittings. I used Tamiya and Mr. Hobby mixes. Out of box. Cheers!
  12. Hi, I'm coming in with another one... Yes, I think I got the GB bug on me. This was actually my first plan for the Specialist GB, but the Tiger PAH-2 beat it to it. I brought this kit and a Hasegawa 1/72 CF-104 with me for my hitch in an offshore rig off the coast of east java. And I thought might as well sign up for the GBs here in BM. My plan is to build it as P-61A-5 NO, with "The Virgin Widow" nose art using the Kits-World Decal The night before I packed it, I sprayed some Mr.Color Green Zinc and Tamiya Yellow Green on the cockpit area and wheel well... Why? because it could be a bit hassle to paint in my cabin or my office. I didn't have the mood to start the build the first week here. But when I finally have the mood, I realize all the seats are wrong.. So I modified it a bit to at least look better under the canopy. cut, plastic stripes, and few bended wires later.... yes it not much, crude, and going to need filling and sanding.. but finger crossed it will look better than the original Cheers, Mario
  13. Lightning F.6 Lightning Training Flight, Binbrook, 1982 Over many years of building Lightnings I had never bothered with camouflaged machines, but for some reason I thought it was time to try one out. I had an old Frog / Hasegawa F.6 to use so it had to have a belly tank without guns fitted, and this is the one I chose: I decided to do a limited re-scribe, and also I had a spare undercarriage from an Airfix F.6 that made a huge difference. I’m running short of Aeroclub white metal undercarriages so this was really helpful. Decals were my usual mixture of Modeldecal and Xtradecal. The finless Red Tops were from a long deceased Matchbox F.6 Looks OK overall, but I still prefer the natural metal look:
  14. This is certainly the smallest armour model I've built to date, and probably one of the smallest I've done in any genre. The FT 75 is an updated version of Flyhawk's original FT 17 kit, which was released a few years ago. The 75 was an upgunned development of the FT 17, with a 75mm Blockhaus Schneider gun in place of the original 37mm, and a fixed casemate replacing the 17's turret. The kit is one of the best available in braille scale, with very nice detailing, and clever engineering which make assembly and painting very straight forward. For the most part it was finished OOB, with the only additions being the tarp and chain on the rear tail. The painting was a mix of acrylics and lacquers and, as a bit of an experiment, the weathering was done entirely with acrylics. The build can be found here Thanks for looking Andy
  15. My 1st build for this GB will be MPM's 1/72 A-20G 'D-Day Havocs' boxing, this fit nicely with my Primary Theme for 1/72 Aircraft , WW2 US aircraft based in Essex, all 4 options in the kit , 2 from 410th BG , 2 from 416th BG were based in Essex between original deployment March 1944 and August/Sept 1944 when they moved to forward bases in Normandy. And for the Sprue shot complete with PE included in the kit (this will be fun !)
  16. Hi guys, i am ready for weathering.
  17. Thanks for accepting this late entry! This IS the Sharkmouth you were looking for! This is a super little kit. Really impressed by the quality and precision of the mouldings: Panels and rivet detail is a bit heavy but the detail just pops out. The detail in the rocket pods is really nice... The kit provides virtually every weapon the US Army Cobras used in the post-Vietnam era before the upgrade to the S-model, including the fearsome XM-35 cannon: The kit gives you options for different layouts, with and without XM-35, and offers both tail left and right rotor options: The clear parts are really well done, and give you the option of both canopy doors open or closed: The instruction sheet is nicely presented with full colour profiles of all the decal options: This is my choice for the groupbuild - obviously! On with the show... Alan
  18. Way back in the far too-distant past (pre 1967) I am sure I saw a friend with one of these models, the Blackburn Skua. I thought it looked quite an odd shape, but (WARNING**** heresy coming up here) - I thought that of a lot of Frog kits. I mean, they were not Airfix, and Frog did all sorts of things that were not in the Airfix catalogue. I am not saying that advertising influences a young mind, but Airfix were all over the shop, and I rarely saw Frog ads or catalogues, and even more rarely, kits. However, I now have realised the error of my ways and have realised that they produced some really interesting subjects, and this GB is throwing up some I have never heard of (1/99 scale Hampden for example!), and I wish to apologise for my errant youthful thoughts. Here is the subject of this thread, the Frog Blackburn Skua: I got this from a dealer at our local club show last year, so is a great example of forward planning as this GB was mooted even then after @adey m and his Frog Nostalgia thread. I knew Adey from back in 1970 at Alderton, Suffolk. If I am nice to him he will not tell you I built a Starfix kit back then, nor that I used to paint Dornier interiors brick red. I hope I have improved a bit since then, but, apart from the paintwork, this will be very much a 1960's inspired build - joy to the max! I will probably replace the markings with generic ones as there are strange white 'halos' around the red/blue roundels. It will be a short while before I start as I have one project I need to finish first, but that should be out of the way within a week or so. Good luck all with your builds, Ray
  19. Hello all! Well, the time is nearly nigh, and we can start our Frog/spawn kit extravaganza... I intend to do a few for this group build, and have been making a suitable collection in advance. The first one will be this: It is the Novo boxing of F266, the Lightning F6. This seems to be an early boxing as there is very little flash on this example. I intend to build it simply, ie no engraving of panel lines, corrections or added interiors, but I do draw the line at the Novo transfers. I will be using a pair of Xtradecal transfer sheets, X72-091 '23Sqn History' and X72-096 Stencils - I do wish Hannants would issue a set of stencils where all three are for NMF, Grey or Camo finishes, rather than including one of each! It will be one based at RAF Leuchars in 1966. Sadly, there is one 23Sqn selection missing from my sheet, that for the Javelin. I will have to get another so I can get the Novo Javelin done too! I will not be starting straight away (I have to finish a 1/144 scale Corvette ship first, but am on the home run). Looking forward to starting this one! More soon, All the best, Ray
  20. A straight OOB build for "production" - for presents , fleabay etc. The idea here was to create nice desktop pieces , add visible detail like nice resin guns and clear nav lights, a great paint job and an easy to use magnetic stand that makes no holes in the model. It's not a profit thing, more paid practise as folk keep asking for them and I umm and ahh. This took less than 8 hours over 7 days without interfering with rest of my life so well pleased. I look at stuff like this the same as playing my scales and exercises for jazz guitar: the more you build, putty, prime, airbrush etc the better you get and currently my hobby is more than paying for itself while my skills improve. Nice to know I can knock out 2-3 of these month from £2.99 kits and not even interfere with my own for pleasure builds. When i don't feel like doing any personal modelling, I grab a spare workbench and bang one of these out to keep my hand in, the folks out there truly dig those Spits, 109s Hurris and Focke Wulfs and I can wade knee deep on the piles I bought as practise/presents for £2.99... I'm going to experiment with weathered/unweathered and see what grabs folk more. BTW the 109 in the ratatata dogfight will shortly be appearing at an RFI near you. Now a gripe, my stands: They are made from stuff you can buy easily on ebay. They take less than 5 minutes to make and require only two simple holes drilled, two magnets glued on and piece of rod sawed to roughly the right length. There are ZERO HOLES made in the model, so you can pick up the plane, examine it and then it self-locates securely and magnetically back, in a variety of poses. I mention this as some "experten" mentioned me by name and was dissing them by comparing them to a detailed cut and measured acrylic stand with interlocking parts that needed a big hole gouged out of the model. You pays your money and takes your choice: Me? I don't like gouging holes out of a model I spent a week making and nor do the folk who buy them from me. Apologies if I sound like I'm whining but this character mentioned me by name and belittled my work, I get by fine without criticising or belittling other folk so I expect the same, at least from the grown ups here. Enough already, back to the model WIP here, Beauty shots ( goodnight Mr Bright Blue Background and Nikon D850 that bricked itself after an update...) Thanks for looking Anil EDIT: Updated images, processed with the right settings
  21. Hello all, Placeholder for my specialist GB build, the Lockheed Martin SR-71 Blackbird from the Italeri kit: Cheers, Mark.
  22. Hi Folks, Now that College is over for the year, I've got a little bit more free time. Can't resist a bit of model making despite the good weather, so here goes... Hasegawa 1/72 AV-8B Harrier II A nice looking kit that hardly gets built, with good reason some might say... From memory, the kit builds up well but it does have a few glaring issues. This is one of the 'limited edition' pricejacker kits of a variant that hardly gets seen and in these markings too. A nice box photo, I'll use this to get an idea of weathering. New parts/decals: Surprisingly, this kit has most parts for both Plus and Night Attack variants. The decals are pretty good too and are printed in a cool blue/grey colour, the box photo hints at the same colours for the markings and I think these jets were aboard an Amphibious Assault Carrier as the 'ET' tailcode is usually reserved for the 'Flying Tigers' helicopter squadron Annoyingly, Hasegawa never seems too bothered about updating the early AV-8B cockpit console of the 'real world' kits, the Plus, Night Attack and GR's have 2 digital screens. Their computer game inspired AV-8B Plus Idolmaster kit, with the animation characters plastered all over it, has the updated cockpit. Make of that what you will... Best to press on: Moaning aside it's onto the kit. Got a few of the weapons sets to load up the jet, I'm thinking of a Litening pod, Zuni rocket pod and either x2 500lb LGB's or x2 500lb JDAMS. Other suggestions are welcome... I'll build this Harrier in-flight, primarily due to the speedbrake being moulded closed... I'll have to scrounge a pilot from somewhere too. I'll also be dipping into this side project, an open speedbrake 'plug', as I would like to build more Harriers in the future. I've used the Quickboost resin set before but I find it quite tricky to work with, so I'll make my own instead!!! The GR.3 insert comes from the Hasegawa kit and that will be built into one of the YAV-8B prototypes in the future... Back to the build. All the parts needed to be painted before I can join the fuselage halves. BTW, I kidnapped a pilot from a Fujimi F-14 kit, superb detail I have to say and he/she is wearing U.S. Navy gear too. Super. More to follow soon, thanks for looking and enjoy the weather.
  23. RS Models is to reissue its 1/72nd Miles M.14 Magister kit - ref.92167 Source: http://rsmodels.cz/en/modely-letadel/plastikove-modely/1-72/92167/miles-magister Previous boxing ref.92120 (http://rsmodels.cz/en/modely-letadel/plastikove-modely/1-72/92120/miles-magister-maggiebomber) and 92117 (http://rsmodels.cz/en/modely-letadel/plastikove-modely/1-72/92117/miles-magister) V.P.
  24. After completing my first model, The Revell 1/400 Titanic back in 2017, everything went downhill a bit. I goofed a model I was working on and lost my mojo. As ever, life got in the way before I could get it back. Finally decided I need to use all this equipment I bought and crack on with the ever increasing number of kits in my stash! This is the Revell 1/72 Spitfire Mk Vb. Got it super cheap as part of a set with the paints and brushes. Can't remember where from but I do remember thinking I need at least one Spitfire in my collection! Choice of two builds, the clipped wing spitfire as shown on the box artwork or with the elliptical wings. This is Spitfire AZ-G BL924 'Valdemar Atterdag' as flown by P/O Axel Svendsen. Svendsen was shot down and killed by a Focke Wulf 190 over Berck-sur-Mer on the Channel Coast. He had logged 30 operational sorties and 26 hours on the Spitfire before his death. The Spitfire and the pilot where gone forever but a full size replica does exist. The kit itself is a mixed bag as many of you will know. This is the 90's (I think?)version with no gullwing and a number of other errors. Fit is poor in some places, not least where the gullwing should be but it does have a nice amount of detail. Decals where fine and behaved for the most part. And the canopy seemed to fit just fine. It's an OOB build using Revell's recommended colours. All airbrushed except the yellow strips on the wings and the stripe on the rear of the fuselage. That decal was a nightmare! So, a number of firsts for this model. First time with an airbrush. First time trying to do cammo with blu tack. First attempt at weathering.... Not the best looking of Spitfire's on display as I made many a schoolboy error, but i'm happy with how many of the things have turned out and I have developed some new skills to bring to my next models. Hope you enjoy! 20190624_111651 Spitfire Build June 2019 Spitfire Build June 2019 Spitfire Build June 2019 Spitfire Build June 2019 Spitfire Build June 2019 Spitfire Build June 2019 Spitfire Build June 2019 Spitfire Build June 2019 Spitfire Build June 2019
  25. Hi, The Iraqi revolt in 1941 is a a bit forgotten episode of WWII which in fact could be a turning point if it. Just think - what will happend if it would go other way. Imagine - immediately after conquesting Greece, nazi Germans would get control on pratically whole Middle East. Since Syria and Lebaon were alredy on their side as Vichy controlled territory - then they will be able to get easily Caucasian oil fields without war with Soviets - and ME oil as wel, since in Iran there was a lot of symphaty to Germansl. So - if this small war went this way as it went - it was also a turning point, definitely..."The hidden victory" .... - in my country completly forgotten. Therefore i wanted to do some models, which commemorate this conflict. First was Airspeed Oxford - a true hero of this action - a second liner, trainer or transport machine converted "ad hoc" to a colonial bomber. I made this model in 2005. I was trying to do P1945. I know now, that there are photos of this machine, but I did not get them. I made the model regarding just description. Actually - initially I did it following the the picture on the cover of the book "The hidden victory" - so with black D insted of red E. Then I converted to "double grey D" following the decals of one Czech company and finally, I've learnt that she should be "red E" painted on the nose from BM WWII forum.... (I made a post on this yesterday on WWII forum BM) Please have a look and comment - if I guess correctly how it looked like? Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
