  1. Hello everyone... I will be using this Hasegawa kit re-boxed from monogram for my build. I will be using the instructions and decals from this kit. Here are the obligatory sprue shots In this photo ⬇️ you can see the only thing thats been done is the cockpit was glued together. This is a 2nd hand kit that came like this. Im pretty sure that falls below the 25% mark ? I actually have 3 complete canopy sets the kits and two from spares. I will be building either 87-8407 from the 306th Fighter Squadron in this scheme from 1982. Or my alternative will be 87-8411 from the 302nd Fighter Squadron in 1980. Please feel free to ask questions, make comments, or give your thoughts ? Dennis
  2. Hello, Thought I'd start building something a bit more relaxing after the Flanker, so at the Moson show in Hungary I've bought this beautiful eduard's kit - with all the extras. I am planning to build it as opened as possible - engine, cockpit, radio, gunbays, misc. panels and so on. So, starting with the cutting, cleaning and thinning all the resin bits and pieces and dryfitting them over and over again. So, this is my Moson show loot, most of the parts here are for Spit. Too much of them really... So, brassin radio compartment with Aires cockpit test fitted... brassin parts just slot into the position, they fit the eduard kit perfectly. And Aires gunbays (just dryfitted, not glued yet) I think I will thin the plastic a bit more...
  3. This is my public return to aircraft modelling, after some unhappy experiences I gave it up for a while and concentrated on 1/35 armour. I saw this particular scheme on an aircraft on Flickr a while ago and it got me thinking...... Knowing i had a couple of weeks off this past Easter with not a lot planned & browsing some well known websites i happened upon Tamiya's 1/48 F16CJ. I've seen a few of these built up into quite spectacular models with good reviews of the kits and one or two built into this particular scheme. It is out of the box with some Eduard RBF tags and a Eduard Sniper pod with some masking tape seat belts. The decals are from Caracal and they were superb. It's brush painted with Humbrol enamels, the final colour is a 80/20 mix of gunmetal & gloss black, the weathering is very light, in fact almost non existent as I decided in the end that I didn't want to spoil it with my usual cack handedness at weathering. Considering I started it at Easter it is only just really finished. It was an enjoyable build and went together without any issues at all, good Tamiya all the way, the couple of small problems were my fault and I managed to fix them to a point where I am quite happy with it. It's not your eyes, some of the photos are black & white. Those of you who are F16 experts or rivet counters may want to look away. 4. My last finish is this Tamiya 1/48 He219A-7. Only AM set used is the excellent Fug 220 radar antenna from Master Models. Cheers! Nanond
  5. Hello all, Finished bits and pieces yesterday and had a good play with my camera. Comments and suggestions are very welcome: BANANA FOR SCALE: Many thanks!!!
  6. Hi all, The latest aircraft to roll off the production line is a Trumpeter 1/48 J-7B built as an F-7MB of the Bangladeshi Air Force. This was one of the most trouble free builds I have done and that is down to trumpeter's engineering as they have done a great job (I know they don't always) as I hardly used any filler and comes with a nicely detailed cockpit OOTB. I have built this as part of the ongoing 80's Front Line Asia GB which has some excellent work being done in it and still has 8 weeks to go so if you feel like joining in there is plenty of time left to get a build done. Enough waffle, here are the pics; For those of you interested here is a link to my build thread; Thanks for looking in and as usual all comments and criticisms are gratefully received. Craig.
  7. Time to make a start on my shark mouth GB entry - the F-105G from Trumpeter in 1/48. I have a Caracal sheet which includes a few shark mouth options - not decided which one yet but that can come later - I'm torn between one with a bigger shark mouth in standard SEA camo, or one with wraparound camo (which I think looks great on the Thud) and a smaller shark mouth. Here's the box shot: I'll be putting an Aires cockpit in it, so I've started today by playing around with the cockpit and thinking about how I'll fit it, and how much plastic I'll need to remove from the fuselage. I'll make a proper start tomorrow. cheers Julian
  8. Italeri / Accurate miniatures Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless. Built As a A24B of Groupe de combat 1/18 "Vendee" France 1944 lovely kit, went together well, used some of a eduard zoom kit painted with my usual mix of acrylics, and using mission model paints for a first time, very impressed with them. Airbrushed with my new airbrush, first time i have used a double action one for over 20 years, happy with the result. thanks for looking.
  9. I had meant to join in a bit earlier but things haven't quite gone to plan. I couldn't decide which Phantom to build so I'm going to have a go at a double build - this might be a bit ambitious as I'm joining half way through, but I'll have a crack at it. As both kits will have a lot in common it might be pretty efficient - I should be able to get parts from both kits painted at the same time for example. So hopefully I'm not overstretching my modelling time here! First up, Hasegawa 1/48 RF-4E: This is going to be in Iranian colours, probably the recent blue/grey scheme they've also been using on their Tomcats, using decals from Hi-Decal. Then the Hasegawa 1/48 F-4G (not sure why, but this has always been my favourite Phantom variant - it might just be from seeing one at my first IAT in 1985): This will be in Euro 1 colours using a Milspec decal sheet. Hopefully I'll get time to get started tomorrow. cheers Julian
  10. Hi comrades! My next project will be Javelin in 48th. I'll use aftermarket - Eduard brass (and, yes, probably I'll replace all tiny aerodynamic fences by brass), Armory wheels, Master brass pitot and Quickboost intakes/antennas. I plane to paint the roundels (They are huge, and mast conform to problematic surface...). Specific variant - probably XH893 with bug on the tail. Any advice on the kit problems? How are the Airfix decals? Any application problems? Any tips are welcomed! I'm still on the "plumbing" stage - sand and polish all the "tubing" before painting.
  11. Just my place marker until I can get pics at the weekend but am entering with a Hasegawa Kittyhawk Mk 1. Probably gonna complete it as the same aircraft on the box art. Have started but is well below the 25% rule, I think I started painting the interior and then saw this GB was planned so I stopped.
  12. Hello guys! Greetings from Yangon, Myanmar. I just finished this nice Thud from Hobby Boss in 1/48 scale. F-105D is the fighter bomber used by U.S Air Force in the early days of Vietnam War and was later removed from combat due to high rate of loss. It was the biggest single engine combat aircraft and capable of Mach 2 speed. The kit is a nice one from Hobby Boss and the surface details are good. Built straight out of box. The landing gear bays and landing gears are scratch detailed using small polystyrene rods and wires. Painted with Mr. Color and Tamiya acrylics. Weathering by AK. I hope you guys like this. 🙂 If you are using Facebook, here is the link to my page. https://www.facebook.com/myanmarairmodeller/
  13. let's see what we can do with this that I started years ago. a special edition kit from Eduard. I've lost most of the resin parts so it won't be from the box. Any ideas my accomplices
  14. With my Bentwaters F-16 done I was all set to get in to an F-4G kit, but a Vacform kit I got on eBay a while back was looking at me from the stash. Now I have done some modifying & some scratch building before, but never a vacform. Couldn’t find the right subject at the right price. Then one day on eBay this Contrail 1/48 TSR2 popped up. Now I am sure the Airfix one is a better option, but at the price & as a first vacform kit I thought I would give it a go. I have had a bit of a fascination with TSR2 since seeing the Duxford example with panels missing back in the late 70s. I did wonder if I should have made progress with this before posting, but I figured there might be some useful guidance that people could offer. I am planning to go with anti flash white rather than ‘what if’ camo. And since it was never operational I guess weathering is a bit pointless. This could take a while...
  15. Hi I'm a little late with starting this, but I hope my choice of build will be welcome. I'll be using the fairly new Revell 1/48th Gr 4, together with Eduard photoetch interior and belts, and Xtradecal decals. Initial photos to follow soon. Steve
  16. I am surprised that no new tool Eduard Tempest has shown up in this GB yet, so I will have a go at Roland Beamont's mount as the CO of No.150 Wing, Newchurch, June 1944. I will use the plastic from the Series 2 kit I have in my stash and the decals from the Royal Class boxing when available as I don't want to buy the Series 1 boxing as three Tempest are enough for me and I really like to have the book that comes with the Royal Class boxing. I may use resin wheels and exhaust, but the rest will be OOB with maybe some extra detailing. Cheers, Peter
  17. Was walking along a night flea market in Pattaya, Thailand when I came across an old man selling this kit. Of all the places to have found a kit. Managed to buy it for about the equivalent of GBP8. It seems to have all the parts but the decals are gone. Some of the parts have been cut from the sprue but it seems all there. Now wondering what to do with it. Should I build it? I mainly do jets. Have to stencil and spray the decals though. Too bad the fella is not selling a 1/48 F-14 or something.
  18. G'day All, Well I managed to get another one off the shelf of doom, where it has languished for about 6 years. Nothing to flash, Hasegawa 1/48 F-104G with some JG-71 decals stuck on, that I found stashed away in the dark recesses of the model cupboard. Bunged on a couple of Hasegawa Aim-9B Sidewinders just for stamps as well. It will do, its only hanging from the ceiling. Cheers, Devo
  19. Hey everybody, is there room for one more? I would like to build this: in these colours: As a twist I’m debating building it as G-SHWN that’s currently on the air show circuit, including the civilianised interior and possibly the invasion stripes! Chris
  20. Hi all, I have been doing this for a while now (whilst taking part in the Frog Squad GB and still doing the house), it is a lovely kit and went together quite well. The model is depicted as an early marque with the Hawk rudder. The scoops and exhaust were hollowed out and the control cables for the rudder were added. The model was brush painted in Humbrol 24 Trainer yellow, yes it drove me mad and took six coats. The Engine cowling was painted in Humbrol metalcote polished aluminium, and buffed with a cotton bud and coated in several coats of Klear. Hope you like Thanks for looking All the best Chris
  21. Hi I'm looking for 1/48 figures or vehicles to add some life to my 1/48 Falklands Chinook. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm up for some fettling and mods. if anyone can point me in the direction of anything that is relatively close to what I need. Thanks
  22. Italian Kits is to release in 2015 a 1/48th, Schneider Cup Italian racer, Piaggio-Pegna P.7 resin kit - ref.IKW4802. Source: http://www.italiankits.it/italiankits.html V.P.
  23. This is one of my more recent builds. It was my second Tamiya kit to finish and it was well-engineered and thoughtfully designed. I started this Skyray in 2012, only to put it aside about half finished. I returned to it and finished it in August 2015. I took her out to the Cameron Airport for a little photo-session. We have a new hangar out there and I wanted to use it for a background. It was quite hot even in the time I was there, 10am-noon, building up to a heat index of 108 in the afternoon if I recall. The Douglas F4D was a carrier-based American fighter. The 1947 Navy requirement for which it was designed called for an aircraft that could reach 50,000 feet in five minutes, enabling it to intercept enemy bombers. Some interesting facts from Wikipedia: "Although it was in service for a relatively short time (1956-1964) and never entered combat, it was the first carrier-launched aircraft to hold the world's absolute speed record, at 752.943 mph,[1] and was the first United States Navy and United States Marine Corps fighter that could exceed Mach 1 in level flight.[2]It was the last fighter produced by the Douglas Aircraft Company before it merged with McDonnell Aircraft and became McDonnell Douglas." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_F4D_Skyray) Even though the Skyray didn't see combat, it's intriguing to imagine how that might have played out. It's first test flight occurred January 21, 1951, during the Korean War. A couple of it's early test pilots, Bob Rahn and Major Marion Carl, said this about the Skyray: " Rahn called the machine a "fighter pilot's dream", the best machine he had taken into the sky since flying the Spitfire. Its instability made it supremely agile for a skilled pilot, and Rahn claimed that he out-flew every Air Force chase plane sent up with him. Marine Major Marion Carl, one of the top test pilots of the era, flew the Skyray and claimed: "If we had this airplane now in Korea, I could just pop off the MiGs -- one, two, three." (https://web.archive.org/web/20070805072633/http://www.vectorsite.net/avskyray.html) The Skyray was also the only Navy jet fighter assigned to NORAD. "The F4D not only served with the US Navy and Marines, it also served under USAF command, though not with USAF pilots. One Navy Skyray squadron, VFAW-3 out of North Island in San Diego, was assigned to the North American Air Defense (NORAD) system under Air Force control, scrambling to intercept intruders entering the southwestern corner of the USA. The Navy Skyrays participated in Air Force interceptor competitions and walked away with their share of prizes. VFAW-3 Skyrays deployed to Naval Air Station Key West in Florida during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the fall of 1962, protecting US airspace from Cuban intruders. There were radar contacts with MiGs but nobody ever tried to force a confrontation." (https://web.archive.org/web/20070805072633/http://www.vectorsite.net/avskyray.html) The gull gray on top and insignia white underneath are Model Master enamel, and the wingwalks are Humbrol dark gull enamel. The leading edges were done with Humbrol matt aluminum. Paint was applied with my Paasche H using CO2. The paint scheme was deceptively simple at first but turned out to require a lot of masking, compounded by several mistakes on my part. The final finish is MM semi-glass acrylic clear and Future was used for a gloss-coat for decaling and weathering with Flory washes and pastel chalks. I used the kit decals for the most part with a few from my decal spares stash. EZ Masks were used for the canopy. It is pretty much all out of the box, with tape seatbelts added to the ‘pit. Originally, I intended to build her “clean” to show off the Skyray’s cool lines but in the end, I did gaudy her up with a full load-out. 😉 Looking back on my recent progress, I realize several were 1950s jets! Man, I just love the planes from this era. The Navy and the Air Force weren’t afraid of trying any new designs it seems now, and new designs were coming off the ‘boards at a fast rate back then. It doesn’t help that all these cool aircraft were coming along when I was a tender youth, zooming their plastic lookalikes around my room and yard! Thanks for taking a look at my “Ford” and as usual, I do appreciate your interest! Gary
  24. I've left this late and if I don't start I'm not going to finish on time - I'll be away for a couple of weekends in July so I only have 6 weekends to get this done. It's the Hasegawa 1/48 F-104J. I have a few aftermarket goodies for it but in the interests of time I might not use them all. I'll be using the Two Bobs Komatsu Starfighters sheet, going to go for the natural metal/red/white option - there's a photo of it here: http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/Stars/wJ673.htm Here's the open box and aftermarket stuff: I've made a start - got a few subassemblies assembled and started painting. Don't have a photo to share yet - not really worth sharing at this stage - but hopefully will make quick progress. If I can get the fuselage closed up next weekend I reckon I can get it done by the end of the GB.
  25. Everyone ... I want to build a reasonably accurate Hawker Typhoon, in 1/48 scale. I have the Hasegawa / Italeri bubble top kit. I have a set of ‘Tempest’ tailplanes. I note that some aeroplanes had the 3 blade propeller, other the 4 blade. Can anyone point me to where I can obtain a 4 blade propeller? Not too desperate at the moment because this is at the ‘deep thinking’ (aka planning) stage but I’ve looked and looked but without success for 4 blade props *AT A REASONABLE PRICE!* in the UK. Thanks, fingers crossed, Jonny
