  1. I know I shouldn't participate in another GB, but how can I say NO to building the iconic Me 262 The aircraft I build is one of the two mounts from Major Rudolf Sinner, Gruppenkommandeur (CO), III./JG 7 in its attractive striped camouflage. All drawings of this aircraft show the stripes in a diagonal pattern across the whole aircraft. I couldn't find from where this originated, but based on the picture below, I paint the stripes in a V pattern With the exception of the nose, all other stripes do line up reasonably well. Of course it could be a third aircraft in this camouflage, but I find this rather unlikely as III./JG 7 had only six aircraft on its strength. And if it is a third aircraft, my model will represent two aircraft - one on each side. I chosen to build the 1/48 Tamiya kit and will add some Aires resin goodies. In addition, I will also build the new 1/72 Airfix kit OOB, also in the colours of JG 7, once again an aircraft from III./JG 7. It is yellow 5 which flew into Fassberg from Czechoslovakia on 8 May 1945, piloted by Unteroffizier Anton Schlöppler. Cheers, Peter
  2. Hi guys, here is my latest built, the 1/48 Tamiya Do 335 two seater. An easy kit very fun to build and paint. I've been inspired by several WWII pics of that plane. by looking the pics, I've noticed that the main leg door is falling. I'll fix it later. Cheers, Manu
  3. Hi folks here's a corsair I have just completed for the group build. It is a Corsair MkIV (KD780) as flown by Lt. Henry Adlam, Senior Pilot of 1846 Sqn. They were based aboard HMS Colossus from 1945-1946 and in June 1945 joined the 14th Carrier Air Group to continue the fight against Japan. The Sqn. went to Australia but the war ended before the carrier and it's air group could take part in any operations. The Sqn. corsair were subsequently dumped at sea somewhere near Sydney. After ferrying many serviceman that had been POWs the carrier sailed for South Africa where the aircraft were temporarily based at Wingfield. It is here that many of 1846 Sqn's well known photos were taken including this one: Which is the subsequent aircraft I wanted to model. If you haven't read 'On and Off the Flight Deck' by Henry Adlam, give it a read. It's a fascinating insight into the life of a naval fighter pilot and he takes part in many campaigns including Salerno, Escort carrier flying and the attacks on Palembang as a hellcat pilot. Later he becomes a batsman and joins 1846 Sqn. There is a photo in the book of '122' and through a bit of research and help from IanG, came to the conclusion that KD780 was the correct airframe. The kit itself has some resin wheels added, wing fuel caps deleted, Eduard seatbelts, exhausts drilled out, canopy handle added, flaps raised, ignition harness added, tail wheel tie down made from fuse wire, tin foil doped covers, CO vents and clipped wings. Here's one with the rest of the family: Now a few weeks ago I went to Kew and had a look at the 1846 Sqn. diary. On Sat 6th January 1946, the Sqn. had a competition for the cleanest and shiniest aircraft. Les Budd's aircraft (113/D) got first with Henry's 2nd. So no doubt it was a lot cleaner than what I've depicted. After the sqn left Wingfield, HMS Colossus headed back to Ceylon where they continued to keep up training. Henry mentions in his book that they equipped his aircraft with an oblique camera and carried out many practice recce sorties. Upon returning to the UK, Colossus arrived in the Solent and aircraft were flown off to Lee-On-the-Solent. Henry's aircraft carried a de-commisioning pennant tied to the radio mast. Cheers Nick
  4. This is my Tamiya A-1 Skyraider “Midnight Cowboy” of the 1st Special Operations Squadron (SOS), 56th Special Operations Wing (SOW). I added a true details Yankee seat, used cutting edge decals and model master paints. This was a commission build and this particular load out was requested by my client. He wanted a weathered ship so I did my best to do that and give proper scale effect.Half way through taking the pictures my sunglasses fell off my head and hit the antenna. Could have been worse and lesson learned. The camera is set on auto setting, nothing special. Thanks for looking
  5. Hello there fellow modellers, I have been posting on here for some time in awe of the models produced, and in great appreciation of the support that Britodeller members give to fellow modellers. With that in mind I've decided t post my latest offering which at this stage I'm calling a practice until I develop my skills further. I also have to say that I also have had the encouragement from the members of my local club to get to this stage and for them who also lurk on here you have seen this before but not quite finished. So without further ado I give you my Dallachy /Banff Strike wing Beaufighter
  6. Hello everybody, Finished as NZ5272 a RNZAF corsair that was made up from 2 damaged aircraft. Decals from Hannants own range Xtradecals. All the best... Gary
  7. Hi all, I'm joining the GB with this 1/48 Tamiya Fw 190D-9, Oblt. Hans Dortemann's yellow tail. He recorded 18 victories with this Dora (Wr.N.210003), the most successful fighter pilot with this type. Flown september 1944 until end of war when he destroyed his Dora. I am also thinking of a small diorama if the building of the Dora goes well ?
  8. This one is from the archives. I built it in 2003 and just for a lark I used the French markings. It sure looks odd in them! Thanks for looking!
  9. Greetings all, I have been reading my Osprey Beaufighter Aces book and have decided an early version with the flat dihedral elevators would be a nice choice instead of going with the high dihedral version, (BTW, was that done for improvement of flight characteristics or to give the pilot a sporting chance of bailing out without hitting the elevators?) I have two Tamiya kits, one slated to be a thimble nose Mk VI and the other hopefully a !c or equivalent. Are there any major differences aside from the flat elevators? And, are there any decals that could be recommended to properly mark a 1c or older model? I am sure there are a few of you who have built these kits and would know the ins and outs of what I wish to do. I am deciding if I just wish to buy the elevators from Ultracast or the entire conversion kit ( the elevators alone are pricey enough as is, I would like to avoid having to pay 40.00 usd for the kit if I don' have too.) Any help would be appreciated. Cheers
