  1. A little something to occupy my while I wait on few( Few? Yeah right) builds to meander across the bench. So for today I present Kinetics 1/48 Grumman C-2A Greyhound with Caracal Models spiffy aftermarket decal set. Yep, it's going to be done as C-2A BuNo. 162144, VRC-40 50th Anniversary scheme and since space is at a premium I'll have to fold the wings on this one. Should be nice and relaxing..... right?
  2. After seeing so many inspiring builds on this forum, I decided to re-visit my childhood admiration for the Harrier and got my hands on the Kinetic kit. I was quite impressed with the overall quality, and thanks to the information available here, I avoided some of the kit’s pitfalls. No aftermarket parts were used, but a modified Hasegawa F-14 pilot was added, and the Matra pods are from a Hobby Boss Hawk, since I didn’t feel like re-sculpting the kit parts (I can live with the uncovered openings). I usually build my aircraft kits gears up, but since the Harrier has such a fascinating silhouette with the outrigger gears, I wanted to depict it in a hovering state. This meant opening all the intake doors, and of course some surgery on the landing gear for the uncompressed state. I eyeballed the configuration from reference photos and added some hydraulic wires and stuff in the process. The oleo strut pistons on the outrigger gear were replaced with wire, since the kit parts have some arresting insets molded here. Other detail work was adding some bits in the cockpit and opening the APU exhaust on the back. Painted with Tamiya acrylics, with the panel centers airbrushed to a lighter shade and very light gouache panel line accentuation. Harrier enthusiasts here will hopefully forgive some glaring errors on the build. C&C very much welcome. And thanks for the Harrier energy.
  3. Finished, just the one photo as this will be featured in a future article of Airfix Model World.
  4. This is the 1/48 Kinetic Harrier T.4(N) depicted in 899 NAS markings circa 1987. Mostly built out of the box - CBLS on the centreline, intake blanks and RBF tags being the added extras. Sprayed using MRP, weathered with oils and Gunze Gray Smoke.
  5. A long time in the making but now finally finished, this is the 1/48 Kinetic FA.2 Sea Harrier. It’s depicted in 801 NAS markings as seen at RAF Waddington circa 2001, hence the ACMI weapons fit. The only added extras are the access ladder, ACMI pod, scratch AIM-9 acquisition/ballast rounds, intake blanks and home made decals for pilots/ground crew names. Paints were in the main from MRP. Andrew
  6. This has been on the bench for quite sometime but finally I feel that I'm getting there. Decals next and then on to the weathering stage.
  7. It's Saturday, household chores/taxi service of Mum & Dad complete, time to get started on #1 of possibly 3 kits for this GB. As a non-aviator, I have "enjoyed" the many opportunities to fly as a passenger on numerous Military aircraft over my 32+ years of service. In November 2016 I got to "trap & Launch" in this beast on CVN-69 (IKE) out in the Gulf. I made the mistake of getting to know one of the pilots (also an instructor) in the preceding weeks, so had got the run down on all the difficulties and known hazards long before my eventful day out. For those interested, a quick google YouTube search brings up a few videos showing the workload on the pilots in bringing one of these planes aboard. My friend best described it as trying to balance on a bar stool (on one leg) whilst rubbing your tummy & patting your head. I intend a standard Out-The-Box build, Eduard self adhesive cockpit ('cos I is lazy!) and then, obviously for me, I will attempt to change the kit decals/custom paint to get the airframe I flew on. (this is my 1st attempt with FLICKR - so please bare with me as I clearly struggle with the uploads!)
  8. G'day people, My other F-16 is getting close to painting so I though I may have enough time for another F-16. This one was already started, so I submitted the already built work to the mods to make sure I would be okay to participate with this one. Approval granted so on with the show. I have already completed the cockpit and some assembly of the upper fuselage. The cockpit is the one from the kit with the addition of some hoses The cockpit sidewalls painted up and some detail work added to the rear instrument coaming cheers, Pappy
