  1. Hi folks. Here's my work on the Stug III ausf. F/8 by Dragon from the 90s. Not a great kit (a lot of recycled parts and thus detail that needs to be erased on the fenders which means the tread detail is lost). Their other Stugs were better in that regard. Thanks for looking
  2. Hi all, About a month ago, I was just scrolling through scalemates.com and came upon a new company called Areon Models. I was pleasantly surprised that they are going to release a 1/35 kit of the Terrex - the main ICV / AFV of the Singapore Armed Forces. I believe this is the 1st time an actual kit of this vehicle is done. I can only hope they do a Leopard 2SG in the future. As you can see from the below link, they have 11 kits to be released (mix of tanks and AFVs) this year, with only 2 being updated kits with new parts (Takom's Typhoon K and Tamiya's Type 74). The rest are newly tooled kits: https://www.scalemates.com/companies/company.php?id=11693&p=list Rather ambitious of a new company to release quite a number of newly tooled kits, yes? Has anyone heard of them? Appreciate any comments, thoughts and maybe even answers haha. Cheers.
  3. Completed a few weeks back - I would like to share a recent build. This is the Tamiya 1/35 scale Opel Blitz - the Workhorse of the Reich... I do hope you like it - as always it was a good learning experience - Steve A WIP can be found here...
  4. Hi all, One of my older "on the shelf" kits- The 1/35 Hobbyboss VK4502 (P) : a prototype King Tiger option. I was even more pleased to find out it came with a full turret interior. I decided to have a go at the 'Octopus Camo' and I'm pretty happy about how it all came out. Apologies about the quality of photos, still getting the hang of this.
  5. Started a new Israeli Merkava Mk 3D. The Merkava MK IV I wanted with the Trophy Active system isn't available locally yet but this is also a nice model. Got some wheels, idlers and sprockets done so far.
  6. This has been a somewhat protracted build for me, having started back in March 2018. I got the trailer finished around a year ago, but the truck's taken much longer, mainly down to other projects taking up time. It is a model that's worth taking some time with though, especially the truck which needs to be built and painted/weathered in sub-assemblies to get the best out of it. Fortunately, Meng have engineered it to make that approach fairly straight forward, and they've also packed in just about every detail you'd find on the real thing. This one's been finished as an ex-service vehicle now in private hands, maybe with a logging company where a lot of these trucks ended up when they were decommissioned, and now in a rather dilapidated and semi-abandoned contition. OOB apart from a few small details and the shattered windscreen. There are a few more photos of the trailer here: (Cameos by Meng's Lep 2 A7+ and VOIIO's Abrams SEP v2) Thanks for looking Andy
  7. Hi All, it's been quite a while since I posted anything on BM. I've finally sorted out a new photo hosting source after the PB debacle (thanks to the very useful articles posted elsewhere on BM) and thought I'd share a few things I've been working on. This is the old 1/35 Dragon Sherman Firefly VC Kit no. 6182. It's built OOB apart from the decals which came from a Bison set. The kit was ok apart from those tracks! They turned out ok in the end but with 3 pieces per link I was almost losing the will to live by the time I'd finished them. Never again! Hope you like it. Bandit1250
  8. Evening folks. Thought id better make a start and post my maiden build on the forums. A 1/35th BA-64b Russian scout car by Miniart. The build will pretty much be straight out the box as it’ll take too long for any detail sets to arrive. I have already made a start on the gearbox and chassis, leaf springs and rear axle. The chassis had some pretty noticeable injector pin marks and recesses on the underside of the frame. Nothing a bit of green putty can’t fix. anonymous pictures website Cheers Andy
  9. Hallo again Now I started a Tiger II. The kit is HB. A very good mold, I am astonished about the quality. It is a kit without interior. I build all different types of tanks from Germany, Russia and Great Britain from WW2. Two exceptions are Merkavas from Israel present day. My build is straight from the box. I build the version just painted in Minium; it is a protective paint against rust. Without any marking, ready for deployment. Well, first I work on plastic, without all tools and pulling ropes etc. After turret and tracks, I start spraying the first round. With tools and etched parts the second round. Well, we will see how it works out. Corona makes me more patient, we will have lots of time. Here in Austria we have curfew. It will last I think three full months. Happy modelling
  10. Hello lads. Today I have a little video of BA-64 that I have finished a while ago. Model is in 1/35th scale. It is a little car, quite easy and enjoable to build, so I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick build. Hope you'll enjoy the movie. And few pictures:
  11. Willys MB Wasp Flamethrower Meng 1/35 I've been waiting for this one to turn up for quite a while, having ordered it back in August, but it finally found it's way from China to my doorstep today. I get the impression that Meng may be having some supply or production issues, as a lot of their recent releases seem to be taking a long time to hit the shelves. Anyway, I digress. Back to the kit. This is Meng's first entry into the Jeep market, coming hot on the heels of Takom's new tool release. Unlike their rival, who's first release was a standard issue Jeep with trailer, Meng have gone for a more obscure version in the form of the Wasp flamethrower, which was a one off prototype tested by No. 1 Demolition Squadron, aka Popski's Private Army, while they were operating in Italy. It was never used in action due to the fairly obvious health and safety concerns about spewing burning oil a few inches in front of the drivers head. Makes an intersting model subject though, and there'll no doubt be be more Jeep versions from Meng in the future. I'll do a quick run through of the sprues before I start cutting plastic. Only two sprues (well, three counting the clear one), the first of which looks like a common sprue for any future versions. The second looks to be specific to the Wasp. Sprue A One piece chassis, wheels (split into front and back halves), seats, Full engine and other assorted bits and bobs. Sprue C (no 'B', so that will presumably come in a future release) As I said above, this one look to be just for the Wasp. There are a few common parts on here, such as the dashboard and bonnet, but they're modified for this version. Sprue Y The clear sprue holds just the windscreen and the headlight lenses. The main body comes as a single moulding with the front grill in place, but a separate rear door and bonnet. The wheels/tyres have got nice detailing, including the, ahem, Tirestone branding, which will clearly fox Firestone's lawyers. The seats have got some subtle wrinkles and a bit of fabric texture for good measure. The rear door has nice moulded detail on both sides. The ejector pin marks on the rear side should be hidden by the wheel arches Radiator insert which also holds the headlights. This has a separate radiator piece which attaches to the back The engine look nice. There's about ten parts to it in total The dashboard is modified for this version Likewise the bonnet, which has cutouts for the pipework No photo etch with this release, but you do get a length of rubbery hose for the flamethrower feed. The decal sheet's quite small, with just the instrument dials and the marking for the bonnet Interestingly, it looks like Meng have changed the graphic style for their instruction manuals, going with a bold outlined, partial colour style. It looks a bit overworked to my eye, but it's easy enough to follow Predictably only one marking option, given that this was a single prototype vehicle Okay, that's what you get. More to come as I get the build underway. Have to rush now, as my tea's in the oven, and is rapidly getting burnt Andy
  12. Hallo again This Tiger I E from Tamiya I built within a few days. Beside the news from Corona. I used Mr. Color 39 and SM 203 special steel. It was a straight uneventful build. Just to get an idea what a Tiger I is actually. This Tiger should show us one of them before action in Tunesia. My next kit is the Tiger II from HB. Before I start a kit with full interior, I build each tank just straight. A little break from my F-15 project. Happy modelling
  13. Hello, I bought this kit some time ago for cheap. It's basically a rebranded Dragon Kit from the early nineties together with zvezda's t-72 offerings. There are several kit reviews online available through scalemates but long story short: it's inaccurate and rather course. Do I mind? Not at all. This is typically a kit you can buy for cheap and the end result looks very Russian. There are some aftermarket kits but buying those would for me negate the reason to buy this. The fit is reasonable and expect to be sanding some parts and putty isn't a luxury either. The are only 278 parts anyway. My only 'problem' with the kit is is the decision to have a seam line halfway though the fender that requires sanding and putty. If you're used to gluing kit supplied barrel halves together or aircraft fuselage parts this shouldn't be concern. This minor problem is present on the t-80 b version and the t-80ud version as well. There are decal/paint options for three versions. One tritone hard edge camo depicted on the box and two green ones. One completely green and one with unpainted rubber skirts. The instructions are clear enough and can be found here for those who are interested.
  14. I decided that I needed a Porsche turreted King Tiger in my collection. After doing some research last year during the Tiger GB I decided that one of the first 5 King tigers to enter service with s.Pz.Kp.(Fkl)316 would make an interesting model to build. The Dragon kit provides decals for one of these tanks, white 13, however it is not possible to build this tank with just what is provided in the box. These first tanks had some different features and I will highlight these as I proceed with build. The Dragon kit with moulded zimmerit is a good basis as all the King Tigers with the Porsche turret had a zimmerit coating, the kit also includes a turned aluminium barrel and an etched fret for the intake mesh and tool brackets. For my reference material I will use the Waldemar Trojca King Tiger book. Starting at the top, the first problem is with the turret, Dragon has represented the cupola as being welded to the turret roof (weld highlighted with a black wash) all the Porsche turrets had the cupola bolted on, so the moulded representation of the weld needs to be removed and a plasticard insert added to the cupola underside to replace the thickness of the removed material. The roof panel welds should be flush or proud of the panels so they need to be improved with some stretched sprue melted in with thin glue. That was quickly dealt with and now looks like this: Thanks for having a peek, some work on the hull tomorrow.
  15. Sorry if this a repeat of someone else's thread - but... Is anyone else building this kit? If yes, do you find that the kit is of poor quality? E.g. Flash in difficult to reach places (and too much flash in general); brittle parts; badly fitting parts; poor fit etc? I'm building it at the moment and it's a bit of a pig! (to the point where I've thought of stopping and moving on to a Tamiya version). It might become my first shelf queen!
  16. Hallo again My first T-34. The kit is not a correct one. My verdict is acceptable. Fast build. No interior at all. Did any of you modeller a tank with interior? Since I have nearly all of them, AfV and MiniArt, RFM and Takom. Happy modelling
  17. Hallo again Here my BT-5. A fast build. My first Sovjet tank. T-34 will follow in some versions. Happy modell ing
  18. A Tamiya classic, I've built this before straight from the box and it goes together fine, the original looks like this; Flakpanzer Gepard 2 by phil da greek, on Flickr I was reading an article on Wikipedia last summer about Canadian forces in Germany towards the end of the Cold War and what assests they had & this led me on to the development of the ADATS system and being a little bit bored i found that 4 (Air Defence) Regiment were responsible for defending the main Canadian base at Baden Soellingen and used the towed 35mm canon that the Gepard used. So what if the Cold War hadn't ended? If ADATS had been developed would it have needed a mobile gun system to support it? Sure, why not? So here it is, the Gepard (enhanced). The new system uses the same basic vehicle but has an improved search radar on a raisable mast, a FLIR turret which is again on a mast with improved electronics and an increased fuel capacity to support longer running times for the vehicles electrical system. Isn't imagination great? I lost interest with this a little bit towards the end but i think it turned out okay at the end and if nothing else it was fun and kept me ticking over during the winter. Brush painted in Humbrol 30 which is the suggestion i have found for the Canadian green and finished with Winsor & Newton Galleria varnishes. I did have some Canadian decals but i decided to use the box German decals keeping the Canadian ones for an up and coming project. The Tamiya boxing and the donor kit from the stash which has sat there for years and gave up it's turret and a couple of other bits. Gepard 2 by phil da greek, on Flickr Gerard 1 by phil da greek, on Flickr Onto the final model, all the photos were taken on a Canon Sure Shot 720 set to auto, taken in the conservatory without direct light, the white background is awful but the black background is much better. Gepard 15 by phil da greek, on Flickr Gepard 19 by phil da greek, on Flickr Gepard 17 by phil da greek, on Flickr Gepard 20 by phil da greek, on Flickr Gepard 18 by phil da greek, on Flickr Gepard 16 by phil da greek, on Flickr Gepard 21 by phil da greek, on Flickr As always, thanks for looking.
  19. Hello, Here is the tiger model 1/35 T-90. Build by a friend, painted by me. I hope you will like it. Thanks for watching. Ilan.
  20. This is my M4A3E8 SHERMAN "Easy Eight" from Tamiya - is my second scale model and first tank I made. On it I tested different primers (as on previous model had some issue). Kit went nice even for a begginer like me. Those are general pictures - can add more detailed ones later if necesary
  21. This is a shelf queen that has sat at the back of my cabinet for well over 15 years. In a fit of "completionitis" I had a go at weathering it back to life. I originally handpainted the camo, Now I'd spray the scheme which is unique and well known. There have been various attributions over the years and in hindsight, foolishly I badged this as a 1stSS panzer division machine which was one suggestion. The figures presented a chance to paint some German wnter camo schemes which I haven't done for some time. It was an exercise in weathering if nothing else Thanks for looking Rob
  22. Hi all, been a while since I made a proper post on here. My newest project will be an M113, with a main feature being the two Eduard sets I will be using on it. It's been a while since I got my teeth into a build like this, so I'm looking forward to it. This is my progress so far. Since the base kit hasn't arrived yet, I've been working on the photo-etch assemblies that stand on their own like gun shields and radios. So far so good, although the inside of the gun shields have a few imperfections. I'm using Gorilla gel glue as usual, and there are a few blotches where I used too much glue. We'll see how they look after a primer coat, I suppose, but that side will be covered by the guns/ammo anyway. Until the base kit arrives, this is pretty much my progress for now.
  23. Hello all, this is my first post here apart from my introduction in the new member-thread. I want to show you the progress of my current project. Initially started the kit about three years ago, but the project got stalled and forgotten. Recently I discovered it again and heaved it up to my workbench. The kit is an easy and straightforward build with a good fit of the parts. I was only disappointed by massive spruegates in some places, but otherwise there were no big problems at all. I build the tractor straight out of the box. It will get the color scheme that is depicted on the box. Most of the main components were already done, I only had to do the interior of the cabin, attach some small parts and the windows. Unfortunately I did not take pics during the initial building steps. The chassis was already sprayed in matte black. After finishing the interior and attaching the small parts and the windows I masked the windows with the enclosed adhesive masks and sprayed the components with light blue. (Gunze H 417 - RLM 76) This is the current status: This is how it looks like when all the components are stuck together: The next steps will be: - mask off the light blue areas - spray russian green all over - peel off the masks and paint the black outlines by hand I hope that this will work out fine. I'll keep you in touch, if you are interested. Any critcs and suggestions are welcome! Have a nice day Nick
  24. This is my first time showing a build here, but some thing I'm interested in doing more of. And to test the waters I've got a simple easy kit to start with, at least I hope it will be easy. It's going to be straight out of the box to keep it simple and will probably have mistakes as I know nothing about historical accuracy and the paint job will probably be all wrong lol. I don't plan on painting the crew for this build, but that may change later on. Pictures of the box, spures, decals, etc are behind the spoiler.
