  1. Hi guys, as you can see in the title I will do the 1/32 Hasegawa P-47D Thunderbolt II. It will be build most out of the box. Pictures of the box content will follow later. cheers,
  2. Heritage Aviation is to release a 1/32nd Gloster Meteor F.Mk.3 resin conversion set for the HK Meteor F.Mk.4 kit. Source: http://www.kitsforcash.com/latest-news-2-w.asp V.P.
  3. Just to show that I'm not just someone who prattles on endlessly about aeroplanes and models, but someone who actually, occasionally completes models, for your pleasure are some piccies of an Il-2 Shturmovik I had made for a magazine article a few years back (sadly, the article was never published). This is, as the title would suggest, the single-seater version of the Il-2 Shturmovik as realised by Hobby Boss in 1/32nd scale. The kit itself is very nicely moulded, with no flash, and has nice engraved detail. There were some errors that had to be corrected, mainly amongst them the metal rear fuselage, which was rare with the single-seaters (and unknown for the GPW two-seaters). To fix this I sanded down the fuselage until the panel lines and rivets disappeared. Alternately, you could fill in the engraved detail on the rear fuselage with putty, then sand it down. The shape and dimensions all appear to be dead-on, and with a little work, this can be made into a fine representation of the Il-2. At the time I was making this model, Eduard had just come out with their interior and exterior sets, so most of the additions to the interior were scratchbuilt. The basic engine is provided, and is accurate, but without many of the accessories and pipes and wiring, which had to be scratchbuilt. I go into more detail about this kit in my soon-to-be published book (due to be released in January, hopefully), so I'll just post the pictures and let them do the talking. A picture is worth a thousand words, etc. Enjoy! Best Regards, Jason P.S. The name of the book is "Il-2 Shturmovik: Red Avenger". Look for it in all fine (and not so fine) bookstores and outlets! Sure to be a classic!
  4. After the F.Mk.8 & FR.Mk.9 conversion sets ( http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234928052-132-gloster-meteor-fmk4-by-hk-models-released-fishers-fmk8-conversion-set-released/?p=1609350 & http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234983243-132-meteor-fr9-conversion-from-fisher/?hl=meteor ), Fisher Model & Pattern is working on a 1/32nd Gloster Meteor T.Mk.7 conversion set for the HK Models kit (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234928052-132-gloster-meteor-fmk4-by-hk-models-released-fishers-fmk8-conversion-set-released/?hl=meteor). 5. A new year . A new project. And you know what? As a first project of this year we do something simple... BWAHAHAHAHA... sure... For a "Flying Abominations"-GB on another forum I proudly present; The Westland P.12 Lysander Delanne (Wendover)! The whowhatsit!? Well, this... Short (Really short) History Almost everybody knows the Westland Lysander . Famous mainly for the risky missions that the Allies undertook during WW2. Because of his special flight characteristics of the Lysander was very suitable for landings on short improvised airfields to pick up and drop off agents and Resistance fighters in the middle of the night. With the expected invasion of England in mind the Ministry of Defence was looking for a way to defend the beaches. Thus was born the idea of Westlands’s chief designer, Arthur Davenport, for a "beach Strafer " . The Lysander as a basis (which was able to maintain a speed of just over 100 km/h in the air), but better armed to wipe clean the beach. Therefore it was decided to install the 4-gun Nash & Thomson rear turret of a Wellington. The design was made even stranger by adding an extra pair of wings. The Westland P.12 Delanne was equipped with the tandem wing akin to the design of airplane designer Maurice Henri Delanne . And contrary to what you might expect at first sight, the flying characteristics of this monstrosity were remarkably good . So much so that the pilot flying the first test-flight in July 1941 ended it with a loop! The Victim For this build the Matchbox 1/32 Lysander serves as a (willing) donor. Recently picked up on a forum for a pittance, without decals and box. Along with the Revell reboxing from the stash I'm going to see if I can do something with it. Matchbox kit. Trust me, everything is there... Revell kit Sprue shot! I'm not entirely sure if I even need parts of the Revell kit, but the decals are in any case already moved to the box of the original Matchbox kit that still lies waiting in the stash... Reference Material So pitifully little... On the Lysander itself there is material enough to find, but on the Wendover (as the British called him eventually ) there is not much. Some black-and-white pictures and a few three-way views of questionable quality, one more useful than the other. But do not worry; with a little common sense, a bit of calculation and tricks with a drawing program , we can work it out ( I think ...). Anything I can't figure out I will guestimate... More sooooon! Rob
  6. As follow up to the Spiteful (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234949742-132-supermarine-spiteful-f14-resin-kit-by-iconicair-released/), Iconicair (http://www.iconicair.com/) is to release in November 2015 a 1/32nd Supermarine Seafang resin kit. 7. A while back, my grandson asked me to get him some cowboys and Indians as he loves playing with figures. I bought these old figures off e-bay. They're 1/32 and I think they're the old Airfix figures. I repainted them for him.
  8. Hi all, Firstly I must admit that isn't quite finished. But this has now taken over five months and I think this is the best place to put it. Build thread is HERE (Merv "Spike7451" Milliken memorial build) This one's for you Merv, RIP. The build is from the Revell 1/32 Tornado IDS/ECR/RAF versions (I used the remnants of four different part-built kits to make this!) and both the current and old Flightpath super detailing sets. I also used Flightpath's flaps and slats set. Decals were a motley mishmash of Revell, Eurodecals, Xtradecals, Kinetic (Hawk kit) and homemade. I also scratchbuilt a Brimstone triple launcher and missiles, TERMA pod and numerous details on the kit and especially the cockpit. So... not quite finished (still needs pitot, temp and AOA probes, awaiting them in the post; also the scratchbuilt Brimstone launcher and missiles are being cast and I'm waiting for that) but ready for inspection! Nice photos by Chris Bradley of IPMS Farnborough: Remaining photos are my usual woeful back garden efforts! To be honest I'm sick of looking at this, it's been an absolute beast to build. I'm not even sure what I like or don't like about it, so I leave it up to the BM fraternity to pass judgement. I'm looking forward to the next project already. So... enjoy! (if you're into big grey jets, that is...) Al
  9. Hi all. This is very late arriving here I made this in December 2013 for my Dad's Christmas Present and I finished it in the small hours of Christmas Eve after working on it for a few weeks every day. A wonderful kit for the money a bargain and highly recommended to anyone wanting a nice big Spit. It has a few issues with the front canopy and rear fuselage for a MKVB I am told. This aircraft has always been special to our Family as my Dad had an Original of the painting of this aircraft coming out of a stormy sky. I had to got to Mel at Miracle Masks who made me the codes which you can't get in decal form having an odd font and size. Same goes for the serials which Pip Moss kindly made for me in decal form. Both performed wornderfully. I brush painted the Codes, spinner and band with revel aqua sky. The main colours are HU163,106,165 From a rattle can and Humbrol Matt varnish from a spray can. I added a metal foil mirror, Decal instrument gauges and used a citadel wash in the cockpit along with the wrong colour green... The decals where good but fragile so watch for that. Chalks where used for the weathering. All in all a great kit Cheers Rob

  13. Hello! Here is my latest completed build. This is the limited edition boxing of the 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109 G-10. I had wanted a 109 in the markings of "Rita" of 2./JG300 for a long, long time. I owe my mate Frank big time for finding this kit for me! The model has been helped along with some etched brass and some home made details, but its mostly Hasegawa and I must say this kit was a real pleasure to work with. WIP posts more details and photo's can be found on my blog. For now I'll shut up and show you some photo's! Here is "Rita" as she was in 1944: Here is my model! As always, comments good or bad are welcome.

  15. Here's my entry for a wonderful GB on yet another forum which theme is; "The name of the subject needs to have an animal in it...". The options are endless, and I decided to dive into the stash and grab one of my antiques. And I have plenty of antiques to chose from... But only one that ticks all of my -and- all of the GBs boxes... Matchbox kit? Check. 1/32 scale, and thus a nice big canvas to work with? Check. Room for improvement with minimal scratchbuilding? Check. Fits into the GB? TRRRRRIPLE CHECK BABY!! Tiger >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger Moth >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moth Tiger Moth >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_tiger_moth It's three times the animal it needs to be! Yummy multicolour box content. Matchbox was doing MCP before it was cool. Eat that, Academy! Decal sheet... and they look like they might (being very cautious here...) still be usable... Trees... lovely crisp parts, no hint of flash on anything. One of the advantages of using an early boxing! I -had- one of the Revell reboxes in the stash, and that one had a lot more flash and sinkmarks. And even if it didn't have a decal option for the floatplane version, it did have a nice Dutch decal option... oh well... Classic Matchbox instructions. Gotta love them, sooo much nostalgia! But the Revell instructions I downloaded have a nice bonus; loads of rigging help! And trust me, I need all the help I can get when I'm rigging... I want to try to build this OOB as much as I can. Perhaps some harnesses and some tinkering with the engine, but nothing major. I will be working on this one whenever the Wendover build grinds to a halt for whatever reason. Good way to keep sane... (I hope) More soooon! Rob
  16. Well I've been dying to do this subject for years and slowly gathered everything together finally obtaining a kit for some £20 off eBay. I'd heard it's absolutely "challenging" which I can confirm it is. I must of used another £20 in filler. The real one was filled with blue circle where as my humble attempt was sponsored by squadron green stuff (it's all about scale you know!). It's taken me some 5 months to do on and off. Anyway my thanks go to John (Canberra kid), BritJet (Steve), DaveT, Alan P and Bill Clark without they're help it would have been even crappier. A colleague at work gave me some resin conversion for free but it was absolutely below par so only used the wiring casting where the 2 CRTs would be. This early representation had virtually no avionics fitted at this stage. The fin camera was added and the fin antennas relocated also adding the "thing" at the trailing edge of the fin tip. I've used the kit undercarriage which has been remarkably sturdy so far. The kit wheels are massively over scale compared to the new release. If you want the quarry lorry look then it can be achieved. Fuel tanks had the winglets replaced with plasticard and the mounting legs added. Ejection seats are from the current revell release. FOD covers are tissue paper, the Skyflash fins are plasticard. Xtracrylix paints were used which for the first time peeled off when masked, but I put that down to the cold conditions of the garage. The bad points - I haven't got the White Skyflash decals on the 4 missiles, I've yet to add the 2 missiles under the shoulder pylons. I think I've made the reprofiled wing fillets with too pointy a leading edge. I've got the fin flash and fin staining to apply yet but at this time I've had enough, hey ho the photos:
  17. Made the jump up to 32nd! Got tempted by this as TrickyRich was selling it and I thought it'd be a small 32nd to start off with. I've also got all the paints in stock and I wasn't planning on adding anything to the build (Ha!) Received it yesterday so I've jumped on it, finally got some bench time after a solid 2 weeks of college work. Started cursing the designers straight away - I get that some people might want to display this with the engine out and the tail section removed but why not just make a line on the inside of the fuselage to allow those people to cut it! Taped up the main bits and it doesn't look too bad. All the mating surfaces need checking though as there's little mold mismatches that cause gaps. Cockpit was banged together as well Can see where I got a bit enthusiastic with my new micro chisel. Detail seems a bit soft, I might remove it and redo it to sharpen it up, not sure. Gaps where the rear bulkhead meets the sidewalls are quite evident. Part of the Quickboost seat, just needs the headrest fitting. Gun covers are on but are going to need some filler to flush them in properly. I'm going to be spending some serious time on the gun ports as well, the kit ones are crap. This annoyed me as well, put the smooth plastic inside and the rough stuff outside the intake!
  18. The Zero was my first "fine structure" kit by imcth of Tokyo. These are extraordinary kits, with the aircraft structure in photo-etched stainless steel and engine, undercarriage, weapons, etc in cast white metal. They are VERY different, present interesting challenges and build into superb works of art. I wrote a blog of my build on Tumblr. You can see it here: I am now building imtch's P-51 Mustang and blogging the build here: Blog links removed
  19. This is my 3rd imcth "Fine Structure" model. These are without doubt the best models kits available today. Forget plastic. Get brave. Give them a try!
  20. Happy new year, everyone! My Wingnut Wings FE.2b (early) has been stalled for some time, so I took the opportunity to build the Hasegawa F-104G/S Starfighter in 1/32 with my son. It has very little rigging and was a great way to get back into action. We used Leading Edge decal to represent the out-of-box F-104G as a CF-104. I know this isn't really accurate at all: We should have deleted the gun on the port side, and the wings are the wrong color. This was a holiday build, though, and we didn't want to deduct from our swimming and biking time by worrying too much about that. On with the show: (Is Cold Lake not the most Canadian place name, ever?) So there you go. No fancy heat discoloration in the aft part of the fuselage, nothing like that. But we're happy with it and hope you like it too. Cheers.

Source: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234967246-148-republic-rf-84f-thunderflash-by-tanmodel-released/?p=2200681 Best candidate IMHO is the Sukhoi Su-17/-22M-4/UM-3 "Fitter". Several a/c preserved in the western museums, documents readily available in Central Europe, a lot of users, iconic end of Cold War a/c etc. To be followed. V.P.
  25. Hi folks, After checking with the Powers That Be it looks like I can join in with a big Crusader. This was a birthday present from my parents a year or two ago - I saw it discounted in the model shop and pointed it out to my dad who mumbled something. I looked a while later and it'd gone, so I asked if they could get another at that price. Mike said it was unlikely and so I gave up hope. Then it appeared wrapped in paper weeks later - result! They had both played it very cool and I was totally fooled. Anyway, it looks like a good kit, not over-complex although there are a lot of panels that probably won't fit that well if I close them up. Apparently the raised cooling vents on the nose should be faired in or sanded down and re-cut, but I think that might be more trouble than I want in such a visible area. Here are the bits, by the way: I'll be leaving out the invisible engine and all those etched fans, and I probably need to find some bombs since the armament seems a bit sophisticated for Vietnam? There are two schemes in the box - at the moment I'm leaning towards 400 NM Although there are some cool Marines schemes with the colourful strakes which look good, I currently only have the kit decals. Construction starts with the cockpit, which looks on the face of it quite good. I shall try and actually finish it - the generous deadline is great and I could do with actually building a model this year! Cheers, Will
