Hello all,
I have just finished the Airfix HM Bark Endeavour, 1768. This kit was given to me by my son as a birthday present last year. I had also been given one back in 1966 or thereabouts, but as I was only a nipper at the time, I was unable to build it, and my Dad (who, along with Mum, had given it to me) had that pleasure. I remember it fondly, possibly inaccurately, as being moulded in a Cadbury's Dairy Milk-coloured plastic. This version was more Caramac (you may have to look that up!). This time though, I was just about up to the task. There is a build thread here:
I had a lot of help and advice, and my nautical vocabulary improved more than somewhat because of that, for which I am truly grateful. I certainly found that at the moment I have limits in what I can achieve, but hopefully that will improve. Certain tasks which I found awkward at the beginning started to get easier as I went along (except knots!). Anyway, enough waffle, this is what I ended up with:
I have read that this kit is a reasonable representation of Endeavour, but for the really skillful can be the basis of a great model. I had no intention of improving and amending it, but just built it for the sheer joy of it.
That is all for now, thanks for looking,
Ray
PS My next project will be a revisit to a model I started some time ago, but it has languished a bit. It still has sails, along with a boiler, and there is a build log on here which needs reviving.
