  1. Tamiya have finally decided to re-release a number of 1/12 motocrossers for November 2014: Honda CR450R w/Rider Honda CR250R Suzuki RM250 More than likely they will be straight re-releases with modern quality decals, not that that's a problem... The days of paying £45 to £90 for one on flea bay will soon come to an end. YES, YES, YES!
  2. Spotted a few re-issues on the Tamiya website - maybe of interest to some: Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/24137/index.htm Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI Jägermeister http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/24148/index.htm Honda RS1000 Endurance Racer http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/14014/index.htm Apologies if this has already been discussed. Andrew
  3. Also found this on the Tamiya Blog: http://tamiyablog.com/2015/08/future-tamiya-releases-autumn-2015/ Presumably a re-issue of the 12039 kit? Andrew
  4. Can anyone clarify the differences between these kits, i.e. what's different between kit 14104 and 14114 (Valencia Editions), 14105 and 14115 (U.S. Inter-Coloring Editions)? Is it just the decals and the No. 46 bit, or is there new plastic in the later kits? Cheers, Andrew
  5. I was looking for an 'easy build' to follow my Memphis Belle and recent Valoms and my thoughtful daughters have provided a solution by way of an early birthday present, a 1/12 Airfix (Nr. 51101) 1999 classic: I shall be building this almost OOB but, at Procopius' suggestion (thanks PC) and as a sort of 'tongue in cheek' BoB tribute she'll be in RAF WWII camouflage. I can't find any reference videos on the 'net, probably due to copyright issues - sorry. The kit comes in a nice box with a carry handle. This eBay one was still closed up and bags still intact: A (cheap) brush is included, there's a tube of historic poly cement and a number of Humbrol paints, including a pot of H41 'Super acrylic': Wow! Four sprues of (heavy) plastic parts, no clear to worry about: And some instructions: The instructions say 'All parts are numbered' and they are... just not sequentially (29, 32, 62 etc). And paint colour '253' is incorrectly labelled - I don't think Gromit was 'RLM 83 Dunkel-Grun' so I'll be using the pot that's provided but isn't mentioned in the instructions, H41 Ivory 'Super Acrylic'. Right, off to wash my parts and then I'll de-grease the sprues*. * Dbl-E, score 1, fnaar fnaar

  7. Born at Domrémy in 1412, her parents were well-to-do peasants living near the edge of the French Kingdom. At about the age of 13 she began to hear the voices, later identified as those of St. Michael, St. Catherine and St. Margaret. In 1429 these voices bade her to rescue Orleans, which was under siege by the English. Joan entered the city on 29th April and by 8th May the English were in full retreat and Orleans saved. The following year she responded to an attack on Compiégne by the Burgundians, but was captured on 23rd May. John of Luxembourg sold her to the English for 10,000 gold crowns. She was tried at Rouen from 21st February to 17th March, and having been found guilty of sorcery and heresy, was burned at the stake in the market place of Rouen on 30th May 1431.
  8. Just spotted an addition to ADH's 'How to Build' series. Possibly of interest to some: http://adhpublishing.com/shop/store/products/how-to-build-tamiyas-112-motorcycles/ Apologies if this has been mentioned before. Cheers, Andrew
  9. There doesn't seem to be much online for this one. Any thoughts? Cheers, Andrew
  10. I actually finished a model and it only took me two months... I present my first motorcycle model, hopefully not the last. I hope you like it. There are no doubt many things that could have been better, but overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. One of the flame motif decals is missing (thanks to a masking incident) but a replacement sheet is one the way. It's built out-of-the-box and finished in Tamiya Spray, Tamiya Acrylics and Alclad metallics. I used Alclad Aqua Gloss to seal the decals, but to be honest I didn't really get on with it and the finish is not as glossy as it might have been. I'll add a few close-ups later. The build thread is here. Cheers, Andrew
  11. My first foray into the world of bike kits.... I am completely ignorant about bikes in the real world - my bike only goes as fast as I can pedal it! So, here's the kit: Tamiya Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 Box by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr I've decided to go for the white scheme above. So far, I've assembled and primed the engine block and assembled parts of the frame and the exhaust. Overall, it seems to be a well moulded and well engineered kit, although the plastic does seem a little hard and brittle and needs a little extra care when cleaning up. I've stripped all the chrome off the exhaust sprue, as I want to have a go with the Alclad high shine chrome finish, which I haven't used before. I'll be using a mixture of Tamiya acrylics/sprays, Alclads and possibly some of the Mr Hobby metallic finishes. More photos to follow. Cheers, Andrew

  13. Hi Everyone, Here is my next build : Tamiya 1/12 Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa. I have been thoroughly enjoying my ZX-14 build, so I found this in LSA models closing down sale. Anyway here are the photos of the box and the sprues for this kit. I will hopefully be making a start on this tomorrow. Box Art Sprues I will be building this kit in the colour scheme depicted on the box lid as I like the Blue/Silver combination. First update, hopefully tomorrow. Rick
  14. Hi Everyone, Here is my 3rd completed build of the weekend. It is the Tamiya 1/12 Kawasaki ZX-14 Ninja Special Edition. Painted by hand with Tamiya X-1 Black and X-7 Red. The decals went a lot better with this than my Hayabusa build. Anyway here are the photos. Look out for another bike build in the future, maybe even the alternate colour scheme ZX-14. ATB, Rick
  15. Hi Everyone, Here is my 1st completed build of 2015. Tamiya 1/12 scale Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa 99-07 model. This kit has been painted in Tamiya X-4 Blue, black, gold and silver plus a bit of flat aluminium. Anyway here are the photos. Thanks for looking. Rick
  16. Hi Everyone, This will be my first project of 2015, the Tamiya 1/12 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 Special Colour Edition motorcycle. I am struggling to decide which colour version of the bike to do. I thought maybe a poll would be the way to go. Please select the option you prefer. Version 1 Version 2 I personally like Version 2, however am still unsure which version to go for. Look forward to seeing the responses. Will get the sprue shots of the kit taken soon. Cheers, Rick
  17. Hello, With the recent loss of the stash I've been at a bit of a loose end and unsure what about purchasing any kits again to build. I purchased this kit today from the local model shop as I'd been eyeing it up for quite a while now, but never felt as if i could pull it off at all as to me it was out of my comfort zone completely, enough of me babbling on here are the box and sprue shots: The box art and instructions call for this to be a maroon type scheme, but from googling and seeing quite a few at various bike meets, I'm debating on going for the Black tank & fairings, with Gold & Silver rims. Thanks for Looking!
  18. After the rather nice news (to me anyway) of Tamiya's new tool 1/72 F-16CJ, I decided to have a gander at what else might be coming. To my utmost surprise, I found this solitary image off a built up Ducati 1199 Panigale. Clearly a quick build 'test shot' but it does tie in with previous rumours of an impending Ducati release... This image was found on this blog http://tamiyablog.com/category/future-releases/ with the 1199 being the first image on the seventh row down. Apart from being photographed at this years Nuremberg Toy Fair, no scale or other identifying text can be found on this unofficial blog. Also no other information has come from or can be found on Tamiya's official channels. Please feel free to add or correct any information presented. I really do hope this is the next new tool 1/12th scale motorcycle release... (Edited to amend topic title)
  19. Been on this one a few months now, but the plan is to create the comicbook heroine Red Sonja from this Solarwind Productions fantasy figure: I used apoxie sculpt and green stuff mixed 50/50 to fashion some gloves, stylize her boots and and provide a base for her armoured loin cloth. I also added about an 1/8" to her waste by cutting her in half. Initially this was done to make it easier to clean up her vest top, but decided stretch her torso a bit since she was sawed in half already. ... some closeups of the scratch detailing: A torn ankle weight provided a source for the tiny metal discs: Primed and ready for paint... ----------------------------------------------------- I already had good deal of her skin tones done, but due to paint build up and a few specs of dust imbedded in the paint, I ended up stripping her down back to resin. So decided to take the opportunity to try something different next go around by taking a page from the old masters technique - Verdaccio. http://sockii.squidoo.com/what-is-verdaccio-and-how-to-use-it-in-your-paintings 1.) For the sort of pre-shading step, I kept things simple and just used an existing shade of green, Vallejo Olive Grey 70888. After an overall coat, mixed in some white and sprayed mainly from over head angles. Some further white and another round of spraying. Did hand paint some lighter tones on the face, but not too much as it would be covered later with proper flesh tones. 2.) I had been using Brown Sand 70876 as the base skin colour, which is what is seen here. Close inspection though showed specs of dust had been trapped in the paint, so after sanding them off, had to go to step 3. 3.) Mixing new paint, so used a combination of Red Leather 70818 and Green Ochre 70914. Second round of spraying, base colour is lightened with Basic Skintone 70815. This was followed with an even lighter application by mixing in white. regards, Jack
